Mean Fiddler to offer Reading/Leeds downloads
Posted:
The agreement, which is subject to artist approval, is the first of its kind in the UK. Ambiguously, Mean Fiddler stated that they would charge between 99p and 150p per song ‘depending on track and payment method’.
The agreement reaches beyond the bank holiday festival and into any Mean Fiddler venue or festival. Artists on Universal and its subsidiary labels include Black Eyed Peas, Amy Winehouse, Ryan Adams, Nelly, Bon Jovi, Busted, Counting Crows, Eminem, Feeder, Guns ‘N Roses, Jimmy Eat World, Keane, PJ Harvey, Rapture, Rufus Wainwright, Supergrass, Snow Patrol, The Cure, Thrice, Thursday, U2 and Queens of the Stone Age. In case you’re wondering…
Vince Power, Chairman of Mean Fiddler, commented,
"This is a unique deal in the UK which will offer music fans the opportunity to purchase tracks of their favourite artists performing live. The demand for digitally downloadable music is continuing to grow and we are at the forefront of catering for this demand. With our millions of customers, unique live music content and ability to work with companies like Universal on groundbreaking deals, I am extremely confident in the success of this division and its future contribution to the Group."
We reckon you’re better off taping it from Radio 1.

something about mean fiddler makes me very very nervous about prospects for independant labels... and it makes me even more nervous when i hear they're anus-penetrating Universal....very nervous

who said McCarthyism was dead? -

I think it's a spoof. Unless America really is more hysterical than I thought about Communismo. -
Re: Mean Fiddler to offer Reading/Leeds downloads
isn't that red guy Donald Sutherland? -

I've seen that picture around for a few years now, apparently it's real enough. I still love the anti-communist hysteria promoted by the Republicans, 'give those commies an inch and the sanctity of marriage is over!'
On a lighter note, never in my years of communist circles, have i seen someone like that, if only i had red skin.
What a let down -

Feeder are on an indie (Echo, which is part of the Chrysalis Group, set up after the original Chrysalis was bought by EMI) and Supergrass are on Parlophone/EMI.

good. cause dEUS cancelled Leeds yesterday, which was irritating, and means I might get to hear a live set of theirs. Although considering how much cash I lost (they were my main reason for going yesterday) I hope it's not too expensive... -
Re: Mean Fiddler to offer Reading/Leeds downloads
although on hearing later news, it appears Craig the guitarist was unconscious yesterday, they had to cancel their gig tonight, and tomorrows Reading show isn't looking so good either...
hope he gets well soon -

The whole paying-for-mp3's thing is the biggest rip-off since ever. I'd be more than happy to pay for recordings of Reading/Leeds gigs, but it'd have to be the whole gig and a price of no more than £2.50 would be about right.
Oh yeah, and I agree that picture is really cool... I want it as a poster for my room! :) -
