dEUS: Suffer "Sudden Illness"

dEUS press 2004 August UK dEUS dates cancelled...

Grumble, grumble... dEUS were due to make a long awaited return to the UK this weekend at Reading/Leeds and Edinburgh, but they didn't show up.

A statement on dEUS.be reads as follows...

"Saturday August 28th, 2004
Due to sudden illness of dEUS gitarist Craig Ward, dEUS have unfortunately had to cancel their August 2004 UK dates. The band will of course be back in the UK in November."

DiS wishes Craig a speedy recovery.

DiScuss: Who else glumly sat around the radio1 tent incase rumours of them pulling out were untrue? Gutted?

  • dEUS: Suffer "Sudden Illness"

My gamble of not paying £40ish for a day ticket for a half hour set at Reading and holding off for a full tour has more than paid off!

It couldn't be any better! Cake and dEUS live in the same week instead of dEUS and a load of bands I've seen live before alongside meh bands at Reading on the Sunday.

This is an entirely self-centred point of view of course. I equally hope that Sunday at Reading was fantastic and they rebuild Craig Ward with a budget greater than or equal to $6,000,000.

Cake & Deus... now THOSE are gigs worth going too!

I am gonna have to see how close Cake are coming to my little town so I can catch them this time around...
      • Re: dEUS: Suffer "Sudden Illness"

As far as I'm aware, the Shepherds Bush Empire date is the only UK one for Cake, but you can keep checking at http://www.cakemusic.com/tour.html just in case.
    • Re: dEUS: Suffer "Sudden Illness"

as if they didnt turn up..... ive seen them twice the first time in wolverhampton with placebo and AC acoustics - deus were pretty amazing. Then some time later in Wolverhampton -Varsity .... i was really drunk - they were beutiful but they played 6 songs .... equipment broke down .... grumbling band people....

      Oh yeah my question.!

Does anyone know who is supporting Deus on their uk tour in November - Birmingham Academy
      satan is in my ass

Cake? Are they still going? jesus.
  • dEUS: Suffer "Sudden Illness"

amazing band and totally gutted they cancelled Reading. but did mean I watched Secret Machines instead who were awesome one of the best gigs of the weekend. anyone else have Reading/Leeds highlights?

despite totally shit sound The (I) NC were great on Friday, also Franz Ferdinand, Soulwax, yourcodenameis:milo, Kaiser Chiefs, Thursday, Coheed and Cambria were all marvellous.

The Others at the other end of the scale! boo...rubbish...should have got the same treatment at The Rasmus and 50Cent.

and now it looks like Danny Mommens is leaving the band to concentrate on Viva La Fete, there's a thread about it, with a link to a belgian paper on their forum at deus.be

      Bad news unless...

Stef? Can we even hypothesise? That would be so awesome if he came back in time for the London date.
      • stef

it'd be cool if he came back, although reports say he might play a few dates, to fill in, but not rejoin... how cool? I only saw them once with Stef... I could live with that, just another chance to see him play again!
    • Re: dEUS: Suffer "Sudden Illness"

Apparently they confirmed it on Studio Brussels yesterday morning.
  • dEUS: Suffer "Sudden Illness"

Yeah, I hung around in the Radio 1 tent at Leeds waiting for them. I never heard the rumours about them pulling out. I was a sad man. As if to rub it in my face they played 'Suds and Soda' while I was waiting. Ah well.

Probably the worst thing about the whole no-show farrago was the fact that the news was relayed to me by via the toxic mouth of Irritating Welsh Radio One Yoofvoice Bethan Spunkswallower*. It's a bit like Jo Whiley telling you you've got cancer.

Still, the Kills were good, non?

*this may not be her real name.
