Panic At The Disco: Lying Is The Most Fun A Girl Can Have Without Taking Her Clothes Off
by Lauren Starkey"Is it still me that makes you sweat? Am I who you think about in bed?" Panic! singer Brendon Urie seductively whispers to begin the Las Vegas trio's third single from last year's smash hit album A Fever You Can't Sweat Out. A bitter revenge song, 'Lying Is The Most Fun A Girl Can Have Without Taking Her Clothes Off' is excactly what you'd expect from Panic! - the tales of betrayal, the tinkling piano, the huge chorus, the whinging vocal and that all-important hook.
Panic! seem intent on sexing up a genre saturated with whinging, boring, unoriginal little boys. But when that chorus kicks in with the line "Let's get these teen hearts beating faster and faster", it's difficult to think Panic! have any intention other than excactly that. This has the sound of a song written exclusively for the teen market, something for jilted emo kids to yell at the top of their lungs at that damned ex. Still, at least Panic! do it with some level of originality compared to the likes of Fall Out Boy or Taking Back Sunday. And while this may be nothing we haven't heard from Panic! before, who can deny a hook as infectious as this?
It's a catchy, sexy song, reaching the high standards we've come to expect from Panic!, and I guarantee it'll be ringing round your head for weeks to come.

No.
No. No. No. No. No.
-
no
aids is catchy, write a review about how good that is.
-
yeah
i never got 'infectious' as a compliment
-
truly,
they are fucking awful.
-
some level of originality
compared to the likes of Fall Out Boy and Taking Back Sunday.
Except that they sound EXACTLY like Fall Out Boy and Taking Back Sunday.
Ugly twats.
-
you
shouldn't review stuff anymore, i don't think.
-
you're
fired.
get out. -
wtf
how did they go from 2/10 live to an 8/10 single? arrrrgh
-
Jeeez, I dunno
Ever heard of differing opinions?
-
Somehow
I knew this wouldn't be popular, but I liked it and I'm not going to slag something off just for the sake of it.
-
And...
that's the way it should be.
But I still think that they're an awful, awful band.
-
heard of what?
i don't even understand what that means.
-
fair enough
but you're wrong :D
-
I
Don't think they are awefull, I think it's awefull such an average band has had so much attention, FASHION FASHION FASHION fuck sake fuck.
-
sorry
I seem to love putting e's in the word awfull, I'm not a tard honest!
-
your absolutely
Right I should have tried harder at school!
-
Shite band! Shite song!
It's all budda baby.
-
Pretty good melody
But it has the worst concept and worst-synced video ever
-
aaaahhhh
Did I spell aaahh right? let's get off the topic of my shit grammar and back onto Panic at the disco being toss shall we!
-
While
I can give some respect to Fallout Boy for a couple of their songs (although I don't like what they've created) I think Panic are atrocious. Awful vocals, lyrics and production.
-
That
I new was wrong I just don't care
-
hahahaha
legend
-
knew
you're not really 27 are you
-
Jesus
So I can't fucking spell who cares, only a journalist would be that snobby about it!
-
Even though they really really annoy me
I'm glad this has had a fair review, rather than just being given to someone who hates it, will rate it zero and just basically write "this is wank" about it.
-
i secretly quite like this song..
is it just me?
-
I rather like them too
But this is by far the weakest of the singles for me...
-
nah, i really didnt like that last one
But It's Better If You Do?
this one definitely has the worst video though.
-
I like this song
I don't like the TBS slur in the review but you can't have everything I suppose.
-
The voices are sqeaky, it's reasonably catchy
But it's just too much American whine/squeak. I'd have given it a 5 or 6.
-
erm no,
actually, P!ATD are more synth, pop based. Fall out Boy and Taking Back Sunday are guitar/punk pop bands. and thus are not exactly the same. thanks.
Good review, good song, rubbish video.
-
It was really a slur against TBS
Since I actually like them, they're just not terribly original are they?
And the video to this song is crap, admittedly.
-
*Wasn't
*Idiot*
-
The only other song
I've heard which has an effect as huge as this does live, is Don't Look Back in Anger.
It was like being at a Beatles concert when they played this.
This is the song that proves they know exactly how to do it. 14-16 year old kids love innuendos, so when its as obvious as the sexual references in this song, they're gonna lap it up.
-
hahahhaha
like being at a beatles concert? tell me about that gig. must have been amazing.
-
Watch out for those
Beatles lads. I think they're gonna be HUGE !!!
Right enough of this internet crap..im off to see a bloke called Elvis!
-
there should have been a comma beforee the "who"
and it needed a question mark.
-
i kno i should be constructive
but these lot are ultragash.
-
I'm...
so glad everyone else hated this too!
-
well, may i just say
they might be the shittest "rock" (yes, i've heard them be described as rock)band ever, in my opinion, not only do they just appeal to all the "emos" ever (ok most of my friends ARE "emos", but give me a break, no indies where i live) but also "trendies". no doubt when i get bac to school, it shall be forced into my ears in the common room, as it has been in town. wish i could join some sort of super cool trend *coughs*
-
I wasn't referring to the quality of the band's
music at all. They were entertaining, but do you honestly think I would compare anyone like this to the Beatles?
It was basically just a load of screaming. Then instead of saying 'fuck', he moaned 'fuck me' so they screamed louder.
Lol/
-
Who the fuck
reviewed this?
This band is terible. They're doing something which Head Automatica did better a year prior. They don't deserve any of their fame. All of their songs are shit, and sound the same in that pathetic, self centred whiney way.
Jesus.
-
Were TBS
not the catalyst in this whole american scene emo bollocks? As in they're the only good ones?
Having said that, the new album is poor.
-
Nah, plenty of bands were doing it before TBS
And the new album isn't great, but then I thought that of the second album too, but that grew on me after time.
First album is still their best though. -
jeez
why do u people even bother reading panic articles if u hate them so much?! i happen to really like this song, and i like the band too, and it shits me that nearly everyone that has posted on here thinks anyone that likes panic is "emo" and that if you're an "emo" u'r some sort of wannabe who dresses in all black or whatever shit u'r going on about. One, I agree that there are some people that try to potray an image and do the full black thing etc, but some people may just happen to like a certain type of music, some people may like black clothes, my god! Two, people that are "emo" haters are just as bad as the wannabes mentioned above--stop judging people on what the look like, and stop hating music/bands without even listening to it!-just becoz u reckon they are "emo". if u were a little more open minded maybe u would realise that some of these so-called "emo" bands are really not that bad. Three, wtf is "emo" anyway???? it seems in the last few years this is some new stereotype thats like replaced goth or something? idk but it seems that for people that dont like "emos" u'r doing a helluva lot of talking about it! Four, jeeeeeezus what is with all the labels??? "emos" "indies" "trendies" i wouldnt even have a clue what any of that means. never heard of it all. maybe its just america that talks like this? Five, thankyou jolley, your post is actually NORMAL! i really dont care if someone doesnt like a band, but yes, a fair review is good, and u are basically the only one that gave a fair comment.
-
Uh...
So their method of making suck ass music is different.
They all still suck, and they sound the same as they do it.
-
Well,
I can respect your opinion about this band...
but I still think you're a minority. On this site anyway.
Personally, Panic! is terrible, and in their effort to be original and as far from the box as they can get, they've managed to forget that their musicians, not clowns.
-
Wow
Judging by your reply, I'd have to say...
you're probably emo.
It's easy to define. An emo kid is one that surrounds themselves in their own inflated emotions and opinions. They may or may not opt to where the uniform, but hey, even if you wear a three thousand dollar suit, if you use a broom in your line of work, you're still a fucking janitor.
Anyway -
You should note that, yes, when someone doesn't like something they tend to bitch about it. I don't like whiners, or gay people, or foreigners that sneak into my country, and you'll hear me bitch about them a lot. It's human nature. Deal.
As for people bitching about P! without listening to them, do you really think that's the case? If they've not listened to them, what are they complaining about? Their name? The amount of airtime they recieve? Personally, I've heard everything that they've ever released, and I have to say, I hate it all. And for good reasons, too.
Get a grip on the world around you, pablo.
