RHCPs lead the VMA way

Red Hot Chili Peppers' retarded funk-rock may have been forgotten by all but a few (million) idiots still wishing it was 1991 while watching Point Break on repeat, but their much-repeated formula has wowed those responsible for the MTV Video Music Awards nominations: the LA group are up for seven gongs.
The four-piece's 'Dani California' is shortlisted for Best Rock Video, Best Group Video and Video Of The Year. Why?
Also on the receiving end of seven nominations is Shakira. Madonna and newcomers Panic! At The Disco are nominated for five awards each, the latter's 'I Write Sins Not Tragedies' competing with 'Dani California' for Video Of The Year. Madonna's categories include Best Pop and Best Choreography.
Elsewhere in the nominations, U2 are up for Best Special Effects and Green Day's 'Wake Me Up When September Ends' is a runner in the Best Rock Video category - it's their only nomination following seven last year.
Acts due to appear at the New York ceremony on August 31 include The Killers and Justin Timberlake.

i am still left confused by the notion of the music video in general. music is for your ears, not your eyes.

yes, mtv awards are shit
but not for that reason.
I love good videos, they become an art form in their own right, and are great to watch if they complement the music well. The videos that are given awards at the MTV awards are, as a general rule, absolutely awful though. for shame.

MTV killed TOTP - bastards. What's more, not one of the "artists" nominated reflects the diversity of great new music being made in the world at the moment. RHCP, Madonna, Greenday U2?!! All has-beens.
Oh yeah, at least the Twuntmeister didn't get on the list. I guess that's something.
