Busted - is the end nigh?

busted
Charlie Simpson, the 'one with the eyebrows' from top pop-rock sensations and undisputed Record Of The Year title-holders Busted, came worryingly close to leaving the band on Saturday.

Between the mid-afternoon matinee performance (for Band Aid) and the evening performance at Wembley Arena, Charlie allegedly told the rest of the band he was to announce his departure live on stage, citing the idea of 'going out on top of their game' as his primary reason. He was only talked around by fellow bandmates James and Matt in an extended session of begging.

The show marked the end of a mind-blowing year for the threesome who have tried and indeed failed to crack the US market, sold millions of records and come out as raving Conservative Party supporters

The boys now have a three month break to enjoy, whilst Charlie's 'alternative' side-project Fightstar take to the road for a mini-tour in February, with the premise of an EP being released around that time as well.

DiScuss: Would you mourn the loss of Busted? Could McFly have a part to play in their downfall? Are we going to get the usual message board fracas following this article?

    But...but....Fightstar are rubbish!
  • Busted - is the end nigh?

It doesn't take a genius to work out that Charlie's musical tastes are not exactly boyband-based. I guess if he's got money in the bank, he doesn't need to worry about what anyone thinks.

They could replace him! Do you think anyone would notice? As long as the replacement had big enough eyebrows...
  • Busted - is the end nigh?

    who fucking cares
  • Busted - is the end nigh?

    You?
  • Re: Busted - is the end nigh?

And what do this shitestar sound like?
  • Busted - is the end nigh?

i certainly hope they give it all up, burn their blasers and someone shoots the person who taught them how to play guitar
  • Busted - is the end nigh?

So this is alternative music is it?
  • Re: Busted - is the end nigh?

They do a grunged-ip cover of 'Hurt' by NIN. Says it all really. Well, 'grunged'.
  • Re: Busted - is the end nigh?

    'up', I meant 'up'!
  • Re: Busted - is the end nigh?

It's an alternative to decent music, certainly.
  • Re: Busted - is the end nigh?

They have the same schoolties as the secondary school I went to. Fuckers wouldn't have lasted 5 minutes there.
  • Busted - is the end nigh?

Busted is like...100 times better than most of the shit DiS covers these days.
  • Busted - is the end nigh?

Hurrah!! (except the bit about Fightstar....that makes me a sad panda)
  • Re: Busted - is the end nigh?

    >So this is alternative music is it?

    Snobbery alert!

Next: why all that dance music is just so much noise.
  • Re: Busted - is the end nigh?

Please point out where anybody claimed this.

with quick wit like that, you could start hunting down Daily Mail readers for sport!

    dicko.
  • Re: Busted - is the end nigh?

    i agree 100%
  • Busted - is the end nigh?

Am I going to get in trouble for posting this story?

    I love Busted.
  • Re: Busted - is the end nigh?

    excellent use of bold.
  • Re: Busted - is the end nigh?

Daily Mail readers deserve our pity more than our venom. They're a dying breed. Although every now and then I see a young person with a copy, which is pretty depressing...
  • Re: Busted - is the end nigh?

thank you. i'm getting italics for christmas.
  • Busted - is the end nigh?

the problem for this dullard is unquestionably this. If shitestars debut release is more beautifull than a tommy mcrae, more catchy than a brendan benson chorus and deadlier than a mars volta intro hel still be that dullard who foistered busted on us. Enjoy the lake of fire fucker.
  • Busted - is the end nigh?

    I've said this before but...

If Busted weren't marketed as such a boyband half of you would love them.

They have a bunch of good pop songs. Not life changing stuff, not brilliant songs, but just good pop songs. Endof.
  • Busted - is the end nigh?

i think most of us would prefer more insightful lyrics than "went out to the backyard, to find out if it was one of those rowdy boys." If they weren't marketed as a boyband they would be nowhere, and we wouldn't be discussing this.

    ENDOF.
  • Re: Busted - is the end nigh?

you're right, feeder and hell is for heroes have provided us with some truly inspiring lyricism that has shaped our generation and opened our minds to all manner of literature and thought.

BUSTED ARE JUST A BIT OF FUN. THEY WRITE DECENT POP TUNES AND MAKE PEOPLE SMILE. FUCKING GET OVER IT
  • Busted - is the end nigh?

Just heard Fightstar...not as terrible as you might imagine, but still hopelessly contrived in a silverchair-gone-pretend-emo kinda way, with a shite drummer to boot. Oh, and the inevitable power ballad.

    Ho de hum.

    Cheerio,

    Ian

  • Busted - is the end nigh?

If I had to like some thing out of the charts, I would like Busted. Yes they are a silly little boyband with guitars hanging round their necks, but what the hell! They're a bit of fun and better than McFly and fucking yoyo (sorry, its JoJo isn't it? You know, the 13 yr old child prossie telling her client to Get Out) so if they did split then the mainstream charts would be much less funny. And what about the lyrical genius that is Thunderbirds?! lol...
  • Busted - is the end nigh?

Someone said it perfect before. Fightstar could be the best band since sliced-Radiohead but people would still hate them. And Busted would be nowhere if they were not a boyband. Can you honestly think of an indie record label that would pick them up?!
  • Re: Busted - is the end nigh?

    Busted? Fun?
FUN? you have fun listening to music created for and marketed primarily towards pre-pubescent girls? You really gonna spend your time defending this fuckin marketing gimmick sham of a band and their soulless, contrived, hollow candy-pop crap?
  • Re: Busted - is the end nigh?

B-Unique, Gut and 679 would certainly sniff them.
  • Re: Busted - is the end nigh?

Yes, yes I am. I'm not ashamed.

Why do you think I posted this article in the first place?

Busted write and play pop tunes with great hooks that work so well when you're in the right mood. I feel the same about McFly. I don't give a shit about how they're marketed. Sure, it pisses me off that other bands making similar music on the indie scene don't get further, (Fans of Kate being one particular example) but they make me smile, make me dance and give an enormous sense of well-being.

The fact that your reasons for disliking a band centre around major label politics is rubbish.

I like you John, I think you're a good bloke, but I also like Busted & McFly. They're also both shit-hot live bands and generally nice blokes.
  • Re: Busted - is the end nigh?

Well, I haven't heard many lyrics this year that made me laugh more than "The cabin pressure's rising, my Coke has got no ice in". Whether it was intentionally funny or not may be a different matter though.
  • Re: Busted - is the end nigh?

And don't criticise lyrics while you're a Feeder fan ;) I used to like them but now looking back I find them a mediocre band with terrible lyrics.

"He's got a brand new car, looks like a Jaguar, it's got leather seats, it's got a CD player. But I don't want to talk about it any more."

What? If you don't want to talk about it then why were you going on about it in the first place?

    And...

    "Seeing things, going places,
    Living out of suitcases."

Worst. Rhyming. Couplet. Ever. And that's from their best song too.
  • Busted - is the end nigh?

Well what a Christmas present if this was true! No more Busted would be brilliant. However the danger is that several hundred would follow in their footsteps.
  • Busted - is the end nigh?

Give me busted over babyshambles any day of the week...
  • Busted - is the end nigh?

I Really Hope the End is Nigh. Busted are a disgrace to music. Brainwashing kids into listenin to fake music
  • Re: Busted - is the end nigh?

help! attack of the shitty boy bands!
  • Busted - is the end nigh?

busted are fun ... and kids listen to them ...

then think , i likes these geetars , then buy nme and turn into indieclones or buy kerrang and turn into mini-blinks
    possibly

leave busted alone - they're pop and pop is what they do ..... and very well compared to most of the chart.
  • Re: Busted - is the end nigh?

that was my favourite message ive ever read on here ever. i'm that damn sad
  • Busted - is the end nigh?

you're right, feeder and hell is for heroes have provided us with some truly inspiring lyricism that has shaped our generation and opened our minds to all manner of literature and thought.

Hahaha. suck that sweet comeback, kidfromkibble.

i'm impartial to the entire Busted situation. i do believe that contrary to popular belief that they do actually sound half decent 'live'.
  • Re: Busted - is the end nigh?

we're not talking about McFly, dude.
  • Re: Busted - is the end nigh?

Fake music? James Bourne wrote four number one hits this year. He played 11 sold out shows at Wembley, and he actually PLAYED them, he didn't just stand up there and pretend to play while others did the guitar work for him. What brilliant contributions to the world of music did YOU make this year?
The real disgrace to music is up-their-arse music snobs who dismiss something without investigation or because of pigeonholes, labels, or gender. Grow up already.
  • Re: Busted - is the end nigh?

    You misunderstand me...
Thing is, Busted is like a pie.
Looks like a pie. A nice hot crusty pie.
But the problem is, it's full of shit.
And who would want a shit pie?
  • Re: Busted - is the end nigh?

Busted are utter rubbish. As are McFly. However, so are Franz Ferdinand and The Killers. It's not how a band are marketed that should influence how you feel about them, it's the noise they make. And Busted, to my ears, are as diluted as music can get without being The Rasmus
  • Re: Busted - is the end nigh?

    I was.

I am happy there are some RAD READERS out there.

In all honesty, I did only post this article anyway to start a bit of sexy christmas controversy.
  • Re: Busted - is the end nigh?

I wouldn't say that, I'm the sort of mate that turns up on Christmas Day and doesn't leave until the court order in April.

  • Re: Busted - is the end nigh?

ah, well then. maybe someone should approve my editorial on America or Busted.
  • Busted - is the end nigh?

    Let's try and sum the whole thread up;

    a) Busted are better than most of the R & B/Rap/Pop/Dance which clogs up our charts BUT;

    b) Busted are poorer than all the indie/rock bands we like due to their style and quality of their music.

That makes them distinctly average, which means that the British record buying public goes out and buys lots of their records and makes Charlie, James and Matt shitloads of money, for example see Coldplay for previous precedent.
  • Busted - is the end nigh?

i have read all of this thread-and fuck me what an excellent experience it really was! i have a similar opinion of busted as john brainlove but at the same time, they make money and have achieved fame, so good for them! i went to see them live at wembley in march this year. i wasn't really that keen on going, but my mate was being dragged by her little sister so i went with to soften the blow for my eternally greatful friend, (god im so nice) but the gig wasn't actually that bad! All the kids loved it! granted-not my cup of tea, but hey i bet them kids wouldn't really enjoy going to see the dillinger escape plan. the point im trying to make here is that we all have different tastes and maybe we should be asking ourselves whether or not it's fair to judge others on their personal tastes! if charlie wants to leave busted and branch out then fair play to him! mabe we should all just shut the fuck up and let them get on with it!

  • Busted - is the end nigh?

actually feeder have got me through some tough times with their lyrics and songs, so, eh, shut the fuck up you wankstain. and everyone always comes back to buck rogers when they want to make fun of feeder, there's nothing new there.anyone's lyrics are better than busted's so you're in no position to critisice other REAL band's efforts. "oh, but they write fun pop tunes, im so open minded" yeah, right, fuck off.
  • Busted - is the end nigh?

I signed up to DiS just so I could reply to this thread. I love Busted. The truth is that they're better than a good deal of the stuff thats marketed as "pop-punk" (for example, Busted are a damn sight more fun than the likes of Sugarcunt. Bouncing Off The Walls? I'll bounce you off my fist mate.) and would be respected a lot more if they hadn't been marketed as a pop act.

    THUNDERBIRDS ARE GO!
  • Busted - is the end nigh?

I'm guessing that was aimed at me because I criticised Feeder's lyrics. You might check back and realise I wasn't personally attacking you or anything, just taking the piss out of some of their lyrics. If I'm not allowed to do that without being called a wankstain then there's something wrong somewhere. If their lyrics helped you then more power to you, I'm sincerely glad about that. It's just that if someone criticised the lyrics of REM, Wilco, Trail Of Dead, The Wrens etc, whose lyrics have got meant a hell of a lot to me, I wouldn't start abusing them even if I disagreed with them.

Don't ya just love that Christmas fucking spirit?
  • Re: Busted - is the end nigh?

That was to kidfromkibble by the way, not the person directly above me!
  • Busted - is the end nigh?

I have to say...I actually love Busted, they're really good to put your make up on to.

    I'll get my coat....
  • Busted - is the end nigh?

I was under the impression DiS was some kind of 'alternative to the mainstream'.

Clearly not. Busted are as mainstream as it gets. If you wanna read Busted news you read The Sun or Heat, surely.

Surely this space could be better used for promoting music that doesn't get this kind of exposure?

Busted do a great live show and have some great pop tunes. They are a hundred times better than shit indie pop like Feeder and Snow Patrol.
  • Re: Busted - is the end nigh?

I hear Biffy clyro are doing another 309-date tour of small-to-middling sized indie toilet venues soon! (and a Barrowlands 'homecoming' show cos kids in Glasgow are that bored these days.) DiS should cover that instead. They're much better. And more Morrissey. That new album is so much more exciting and less embarassing than Busted could ever be!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Re: Busted - is the end nigh?

Point well made, but I think the excuse you can lay down for Morrissey is that, whether you love or loathe him, he did inspire pretty much every middling indie band out there. From Interpol to Franz, to thisGirl and The Libertines.
  • Re: Busted - is the end nigh?

This coming from the man who wanted to do a live review of Blue, saying how amazing the show was in a way which would purposely wind-up DiS readers.
  • Re: Busted - is the end nigh?

don't call my brother a wankstain!
  • Re: Busted - is the end nigh?

I got so pissed off by shit like Busted that I got into Feeder and Rooster. FIGHT THE POWER.
  • Re: Busted - is the end nigh?

I too made comment on Feeder's lyricism.

I suppose the point I was making was one that if this guy is going to stick his/her neck out and put down the lyricism of a pop group, then he has to be open to it himself.

Sure, he drew something from their lyrics, but hundreds of people of a lesser age than many of us have drawn a great deal from Busted's lyrics. Even if it is just a smile. Isn't the point of music just to be entertained at the end of the day?

Sure, many bands educate, intrigue and much more - but Busted have never claimed to want to do that.

I think it's unfair of him/her to put down Busted's lyrics, that's all I'm saying.

I mean Grant Nicholas isn't exactly Richey Edwards though is he?
  • Busted - is the end nigh?

McFly do not 'sound like the Beach Boys'. McFly sound like Teenage Fanclub. Which is unforgiveable
  • Busted - is the end nigh?

sorry oceanstorm, i've had to endure a lot of stick for being a feeder fan, i suppose i just lost it for a second, anyway merry xmas!
  • Re: Busted - is the end nigh?

don't worry about it! happy boxing day.
  • Busted - is the end nigh?

    yes! boxes for all!
  • Busted - is the end nigh?

does any one know why it's actually called that shitty name any way??
  • Re: Busted - is the end nigh?

have to say, Grant Nicholas' lyrics are the worst part of Feeder. I quite like 'em, and I know he's been through like proper real life experiences etc. But he articulates it rather poorly in his lyrics, and that's why the tenderness in Feeder's latest effort came from the more...epic guitars and layers of orchestral-ness, like in "Forget About Tomorrow" (best track they've ever done). Nicholas' lyrics are heartfelt, but they're not that good. Then again, I don't rate Busted either.
  • Re: Busted - is the end nigh?

except, like, y'know, Teenage Fanclub are the unsung Gods of summery indie-rock?
  • Re: Busted - is the end nigh?

whether you love or loathe him, he did inspire pretty much every middling indie band out there. From Interpol to Franz, to thisGirl and The Libertines.

Was that meant to be some sort of justification / defence? An "excuse"??!? Er...
  • Re: Busted - is the end nigh?

    He so funneee!!!

I actually saw Blue once. Paid money etc & all (not specifically for them, but they were on the bill). They were booed from start to finish, and the gobshite one got hit in the face with a beercan. Then he came back out after they'd all sulked offstage and offered the entire crowd outside for a fight. Funniest thing ever. Mr "Future" should be taking notes, not fine-tuning his mastery of the sarcastic...
  • Re: Busted - is the end nigh?

Well, it all started when someone in Busted's brother had a band called "Buster" or something. They called up MTV and Geri Halliwell was doing a guest slot on a request show of some sort. "Buster" requested a song and asked for a shout out to said band. However, Geri Halliwell misheard him, and thought he said "Busted". So she gave a shout out to "Busted", and someone in Busted thought it would be a great name for the band.

So we have Geri Halliwell to thanks for that one.
  • Busted - is the end nigh?

I think the question was why is Boxing Day called Boxing Day, am I right?

I, for one, have no idea.
  • Busted - is the end nigh?

People always say the same things. I just like music because of the way it sounds. Busted aren't one of my favourite bands. I prefer Radiohead and Bjork and Oceansize and Biffy Clyro and The Locust and Nad Navillus and Alasdair Roberts and Carina Round and Television and Gang Of Four and Silver Mt. Zion and Kill Sadie and Mogwai and Explosions in The Sky and Richard Youngs and Mia Doi Todd and The Dears and Willy Mason and The Murder Of Rosa Luxembourg and Pelican and Les Savy Fav and De Facto and Magazine and Husker Du and Sufjan Stevens and Sonic Youth and Bright Eyes and The Dismemberment Plan and Braid and Drive Like Jehu and above all I like making music myself. Basically that doesn't mean Busted are shit and anyone that likes them is rubbish. Isn't that pretty striaght forward? It's kind of sad how single-minded people can be. How difficult can it really be to realise that not everything is made for oneself.
I generally don't have a problem with people but I guess this morning I do.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year when it comes. Mx
  • Re: Busted - is the end nigh?

  • Re: Busted - is the end nigh?

i would much rather listen to Busted than Feeder.
  • Busted - is the end nigh?

I would be devasted if Busted split! As much as i love Fightstar, i would absolutley cry myself to sleep for years lol! BUT, do not fear Busted fans...lucky me went to one of Busted's Wembley concerts on the 14th, and i got to go backstage and meet them all! I spoke to James, and he promised a third album, he said they were having a break at the beginning of the year in which they would concentrate on writing new songs for it. He also talked about Record of the Year 2005 and how him and Matt and Charlie all wanted to win it again! So there is hope! And also, we were talking to James' dad, and he said the same. So I reckon theyve still got a year or 2 left in them THANK GOD! And anyway, as Charlie has said, theres something in Busted which he doesnt want to leave. And he could balance two bands, just like the 2 guys in Blink182, theyre in the band Car Box Racer, and they're still a MASSIVE sucess as Blink. Whatever though, we cant control what happens, and its Charlies decision wether he leaves or not, PLEASE DONT! But....yes.....I am a dedicated Busted fan, I must make that statement.
  • Re: Busted - is the end nigh?

theres something in Busted which he doesnt want to leave

    yeh - his paycheck
  • Re: Busted - is the end nigh?

Dear god i hope busted die like the facades thay are.

I mean they say 'I like bands like hum' and 'i love rock' and then they come out with the shite they come out with! WHAT? I mean, i read all the stuff they say about wee indie bands and i think, yeah their right. But i cant believe they make the worst music in the world.

Anywho, hopefully fightstar are good, and busted die.

Then theres only McFly, Rasmus and HIM on my deathlist.

    <3

"i would much rather listen to Busted than Feeder."

and i would much rather listen to busted than the von bondies. i bought pawn shoppe heart on the strength of c'mon c'mon, biggest waste of a tenner EVER.
  • Busted - is the end nigh?

Crazy, purely the fact that busted inspire so much contention should enlightn you to th fact that regardless of your opinion of them they have turned many people away from seedy pop which skirts around sexual innuedo without ever using wit to explain, charlie evidently is a good lad who made a poor decision in the musical climate of now you have to sympathise with someone who sees a way into the market as if he had tried to do somthing unique most record labels would have told him to fuck and write something accesible,

    Judge everything on its merits
  • Busted - is the end nigh?

I think boxig day is called that because originally there would have ben all the boxes left from the presents the day before. Thats what I was told anyway... could have been utter bollocks for all I know. :S
  • Busted - is the end nigh?

i wonder what the others would do if the eyebrowed one DID leave busted.

i don't really get busted, to be honest. i get what the appeal is meant to be - 3 boys with guitars bouncing around, fun pop songs, none of yer sub-sub-sub-sub-indie highbrow beige wankery, all of that... all fine principles... i just think as pop music goes, they're quite bad [ditto mcfly, sorryyyy....] . inasmuch as, they don't get stuck in my head for days, or make me smile for 3 minutes or dance or turn the volume up, or any of the things that a good pop song is meant to do. i've always thought they sounded less like a fun, catchy pop band, than 3 schoolboys pretending to be a fun catchy pop band at their end of year variety show.

that's alright though, there's still girls aloud. how i love them.

    xxx
  • Thought for the day

Would the be-eyebrowed one's "indie band" (ha ha) side project be getting a release on Fierce Panda, if FP wasn't in hoc with a major label now and still just run by Simon Williams & his mate.....?

    Hmm.
  • Busted - is the end nigh?

God - I hope that they are over soon. Busted and McFly should be sent off on a goodwill tour of Fallujah, I think only then will they be able to claim salvation....
  • Busted - is the end nigh?

    Hopefully. The twats
  • Busted - is the end nigh?

How did the ginger one get into Girl's Aloud though?
  • Busted - is the end nigh?

You dont have to 'sympathise' with anybody who 'sees a way in to the market'. You have to throw boiling hot liquid at their faces for treating it as a 'market' in the first place. People who make music should do so for the music. Pure and simple. Being able to convey your feelings and thoughts via music to the world is a privilege in itself and its about time shoddy, cynically marketed trash like Busted and their stupid little pre pubescent girl fans, creaming themselves over eyebrows guy whilst simultaneously deluding themselves in to believing that the stupid prick has a single musical bone in his entire fucking body realised that. Fame, money, accessibility and subsequent probability of success shouldn't even begin to enter the equation. Im not against any of the aforementioned factors, but they should only come deservedly- as a byproduct of making great music. Anybody can achieve them nowadays by being marketed the correct way, and Busted epitomise this. It's not snobbish, elitist, or unrealistic to expect supposed MUSICians to prioritise MUSIC in accordance with their careers as opposed to playing to and catering for an audience, and it's a right of any discerning consumer to expect it.
  • Re: Busted - is the end nigh?

i cant spk for busted here coz i know nothing about them but i know enough about mcfly to say that they are not manufactured, they write their own songs and play their own instruments so im wondering now because they play pop, how they do not care about music ?? please someone enlighten me because if they play their own instruments ( and im thinking they are as not as bad as some shite i have seen ) they mustve cared about music to learn in the first place??
  • Re: Busted - is the end nigh?

"Write" their "own songs" you say...?

Is that the same as "nicking + re-appropriating piles of hooks and riffs from the Monkeys/Oasis/Madness/etc etc etc"........?
  • Busted - is the end nigh?

I pretty much agree with alot of this thread. Although Busted aren't to my personal taste anymore, they are making music that quite alot of people actually wanna hear, so why can't we just leave 'em to it?

Oh and by the way, Boxing Day is called so because that is the day on which the boy apprentices in the church would open the collecting boxes where donations were put during the Christmas service the previous day. Well, thats what I've always heard anyway.
