Takk... all about it: more on Sigur Rós' new record

As previously reported alongside our announcement of their tour dates, Sigur Rós will release Takk... on September 12th through EMI. The album, the band's fourth, was produced by the band, with co-producer Ken Thomas, at their own studio in Álafoss, Iceland.
Keyboardist Kjartan Sveinsson said: "There is nothing clever about Sigur Rós and how we write songs, it's just mucking about really."
Takk... runs to 65 minutes and is divided into 11 tracks. The songs are, apparently, rich in diversity, with ''Milano' offering simple piano lines in contrast to the bombastic 'Glosoli', featuring no fewer than three bass drums at work. The band have called this album their "rock'n'roll record".
Expect tears before bedtime at DiS towers once copies of Takk... arrive and we all start fighting for 'em.

Isn't it strange that a band as perfect as Sigur Ros can claim "there's nothing special" about them, yet monotonous drivel, like Oasis for example, claim to be the most important band in the world.
Just a thought. -

The new songs they played at Somerset House made me very, very happy. And now I learn the next London date is going to be in a horrible indoor venue with muddy sound and wanky security.
I watched them in the open air, as the sun went down, feeling the cool breeze, and I was barefoot.

the new songs they played in paris were really great. there was one with roughtly 3/4 xylophones/glockenspiels going at once. never has the word 'twinkly' been better used. -

Oh dear, dear, dear....
You mean you haven't heard them live? Better than the records by a country mile. I saw them 3yrs ago in edinburgh and they blew me away then but i saw them again a few wks ago in glasgow and they were phenomenal - really heavy and intense - the new album is going to be awesome if that gig was anything to go by. It's nigh on impossible to describe how the music carries over to live performance so you're just gonna have to go and see them....shame....

I just got it! its superb, more like Agaetis..., but brilliant in its own way. in fine post rock tradition, it has moments of sheer joy and elation, with also triumphant sadness. GET IT
