Beasties to release greatest hits

beastie boys MTV has reported that hip-hoppers the Beastie Boys are to release a best-of compilation album, entitled Solid Gold Hits.

The album, featuring tracks from across their career, is to be released on November 7th, to coincide with the band's 24th anniversary. Yes, 24th.

DiS editor Colin Roberts would like to mention that the Beasties are his favourite band of like, all time EVER and anyone caught dissenting and calling them sell-outs for releasing another compilation will be banned from Drowned in Sound forever. Maybe.

DiScuss: What would be your ideal tracklisting?

  • Beasties to release greatest hits

I apologise for being pedantic, but 'Fight For Your Right' did appear on 'The Sounds Of Science'.
    • Re: Beasties to release greatest hits

Sorted... I had it in my head, totally, that it didn't.

It didn't have 'the sound of science' on it, though.

    • Re: Beasties to release greatest hits

that was 6 (SIX) years ago
they've released like SEVENTEEN (1?) records since
  • Beasties to release greatest hits

dont want to point out the obvious but...
    • Re: Beasties to release greatest hits

...but the The Sounds of Science wasn't a greatest? It was a collection of rarities alongside some amazing music which they've produced over their long and glorious history?

      Thought so.
      • Re: Beasties to release greatest hits

So what will be the difference be between that and this? Very little I guess. And I like the Beasties, I really do - even the Aglio E Olio record, DFL etc - but this is a Christmas cash-in surely?

Still better them than, I don't know, Crazytown?
      • Re: Beasties to release greatest hits

I'm willing to bet that the vast majority of the tracklisting on the greatest hits will have already been on Sounds of Science.
  • Beasties to release greatest hits

"Rap rap rap rap rap rap SHOUT
Rap rap rap rap rap rap SHOUT"

    (repeat)

Seriously. Take virtually any Beastie Boys track and do the above test. Still ace.
    • Re: Beasties to release greatest hits

Haha! Are you and I the only people that have noticed this? The 'Ham Technique'?

      "Skib-flibby skibbidy floob-flooob HAM!
      Trib-dibby skib dibby dibby-dib HAM!
      Skiddy dib HAM!
      Tibby skib HAM!
      Flib-tib-skibbidy dib-de-dib HAM!"

And yet somehow it stays interesting. How?!

      nnnnnnDROP!
      • Re: Beasties to release greatest hits

My partner and I have said the same thing in the past.

nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah naaaaaah
nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah naaaaaah

        repeat x 50

Its dull after fifteen seconds and yet they still sell thousands of records.
        The mind boggles.

You can pick up 'Sounds Of Science' for £10 most places now. A brilliant starting point, and best of all, it won't have 'Triple Trouble' on it.

Buy that and download 'Ch-Ch-Check It Out'. Sorted.
  • Beasties to release greatest hits

Pffttt.. whatever. Sounds of Science has all the choons you need, even Ch-Ch-Check it out, grates a bit after a a while, so isn't that essential.
  • Beasties to release greatest hits

    my tracklisting would be:

    1. Intergalactic Planetary.

    ...

    then 50 minutes of silence.

    *runs away from crab-editor-lin*
    • Re: Beasties to release greatest hits

You just invented a new title for a song.

      That's what insulted me.
  • Beasties to release greatest hits

i dont mean to brag, i dont mean to boast,
but i'm intercontinental when i eat french toast.

    word.
  • Beasties to release greatest hits

    boomin granny...
  • Beasties to release greatest hits

    "Contractual Obligation", anyone?

I'm guessing there'll be the traditional one or two new tracks, as I heard through the grapevine that they've sampled (and cleared) "Sonic Reducer" by Rocket From The Tombs.
  • Beasties to release greatest hits

what's so special about a 24th anniversary? or am i missing something here?

is one of them about to die?

    (you're fired - ed.)
    • Re: Beasties to release greatest hits

      it's my 23rd anniversary soon!!!
      maybe I should release something...
...one of those little girls in the basement!?!?
  • Beasties to release greatest hits

They've already done a greatest hits. Rarities, my arse.
But those Beasties never were ashamed to love money.
  • Beasties to release greatest hits

I got the skills to pay the bills yall.

    Beasties RULE.

    Good call the crab
    • Re: Beasties to release greatest hits

      awesome!

gotta love the Beastie Boys, but having said that....The Sounds of Science pretty much did it all for me, but as I have all their records i guess i'll have to ch-ch-check it out...but if it's the same as the Sounds of Science, then i'll be mad!

      Beasties, you have been warned.

  • Beasties to release greatest hits

give up your money for music

    live without it for music

  • Beasties to release greatest hits

I'd happily listen to a recording of Ad Rock taking a crap. Yeah. I've shown my hand.
