"Jesus, James, this House is Crowded!" "Yeah, all these bands keep reforming, innit."
Posted: 23 Jan '07, 12:55
Three fairly big, fairly old bands were revived this morning.
First it was revealed that The Jesus and Mary Chain were reforming to headline this year's Coachella festival, then, THEN indie swooners James released this statement on their website, inferring that estranged frontman Tim Booth (pictured) had rejoined his bandmates.
Too tired to click? This is what it says.
"James are back. Still fresh as a daisy. Ready to be the bride not the bridesmaid. With a back catalogue to die for and a bunch of new songs the Laid six will be playing live for the first time in six years."
Where? Here:
April
21 Glasgow Carling Academy
23 Newcastle Carling Academy
24 Birmingham Carling Academy
27 London Brixton Academy
28 Manchester MEN Arena
James were the first band I ever saw live, when I was 13 at Brixton Academy. I don't remember very much, but I think it may have been "alright".
Does it get any better than that? Perhaps. Just as we were about to go to press, Crowded House had announced their reformation.
The New Zealanders also play at Coachella, and will be holding auditions to find a drummer following the suicide of original member Paul Hester in 2005.

Booth was good in Batman
Lets not forget the return of Carter USM for one night only.
Ooh, my 2000th post.
-
i love crowded house so much
without any irony at all.
-
honestly?
i think they were incredible. one of the best 'indie' bands of all time.
-
amen to that
true. and finn's solo stuff was hit and miss, but with some beautiful songs there too.
-
yes honestly!
you're the one who doesnt love blatantly amazing big bands, lets not forget that!
their songs have the best beatlesesque melodies outside of elliott smiths work, plus so many little dark bits of twisted wonderfulness. songs like four seasons in one day are built for radio and yet have enough edge to them not to sound awful. whispers and moans is my fave.
-
I love Crowded House too
Together Alone is one of my favourite albums - melodic, atmospheric and interesting.
Private Universe is probably my fave song of theirs, just beautiful.

JAMC=
Worrying. But a little bit pleasing.

What I'd really like
is for JAMC to reform with Gillespie on the tubs.

How are they managing to get these bands to reform?! Esp Rage!
-
dont care much for james but...
yay for crowded house reforming!
-
-
-
They play business functions

james were also the first band i ever saw
and this news makes me happy. means i get to see them again. woop.
-
MEN Arena?!!
Are James that big to play Brixton and MEN arena? I thought that they would be playing similar sized places to the likes of Kula shaker when they reformed ie Rescue rooms size. Are there any rubbish 90s bands that haven't reformed yet. Cast? Ocean Colour Scene?

'...inferring that estranged frontman Tim Booth (pictured) had rejoined his bandmates.'
Don't I infer and you imply? Not just me obviously, but implication is with the speaker and inference is with the listener. Isn't it?
Good news about Crowded House, Four Seasons in One Day is a peach of a song. My dad will be pleased.
-
I love James too.
One of the best festival bands ever.
Are Carter USM really reforming for one night only? If so, where and when? TELLMETELLMETELLMETELLMENOW.

Yes yes YES
I'm glad that so many people here like Crowded House. They weren't "MOR"... they were so much better than that and the one time I saw them (in Cardiff) is still possibly my favourite gig ever - I always tell that to anyone that asks. Paul Hester left just before that, so I know they can get away with it although I wish I'd seen him once.
"Distant Sun" is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. FACT. If you can't write a lyric as good as "I don't pretend to know what you want, but I offer love" then split your band and get an office job.

The Crowdeds...
were 2 Ockers and one Kiwi.
Pedanticly Yours. -
Paul Hester died of suicide?
Jesus... That's terrible.. I'm only two years behind the news.
Shocked.
