RATM's Morello says reformation was political

rage against the machine

Rage Against The Machine's Tom Morello - we've not yet forgiven him for Audioslave - has revealed his reasons behind the '90s rap-rockers reformation to MTV.

The four-piece are to play this year's Coachella Festival in California (see previous story by clicking on the link, right). Morello has said that the festival's organisers had been trying to get RATM to play "for as many years as they've had the festival". Rage broke up in 2000.

Morello went on to say that the band's reformation had a little something something to do with the political state of the nation slash world:

"Is it a coincidence that in the seven years that Rage Against The Machine has been away that the country has slid into right-wing purgatory? I think not.

"It occurred to all of us that the times were right to see if we can knock the Bush administration out in one fell swoop, and we hope to do that job well."

At the moment the Coachella show is RATM's only confirmed date.

  • Hahahahahah

"Is it a coincidence that in the seven years that Rage Against The Machine has been away that the country has slid into right-wing purgatory? I think not."

Rage Against The Machine = saviours of the world...

  • yeaaah

"Is it a coincidence that in the seven years that Rage Against The Machine has been away that our bank balances have slid down into 'just a bit rich' territory? I think not.

"It occurred to all of us that the times were right to see if we can buy Zach a new mansion in one fell swoop, and we hope to do that job well."

  • That picture

Are they in a very small oven or something?

    • they've burned down the Whitehouse

      with Rap Rock Fire.

      • sleeping now in it

        i guess

        • rage

Denzel WAshington should play Morillo in the Rage film, and zach(sack) should play Bob Marley " They say smoke you say how much!" And light it at the prime time!

    • Surely

It would have to be a very large oven

      • actually think about it

"RATM's reformation was political"- one of the most famously left wing politically motivated political bands of the political movement of the 90's has had a reformation based on political grounds. surprise. so not that big wheelbarrow of cash i saw morello with last week then.

Expect them to have their own toilets at coachella, manics-style.

        • zack

          tienie wienie zack

            • thank you lord

              for giving us RATM.

may right wing scum fade away.
and the glorious money-grabbing twats of RATM lead the way!

              • is this there way is saying

well our other project wernt that good and we need money

                • erm i would guess so!

                • ummmm...

....wouldn't they have been making waaay more money in the 'million-selling to middle America' act that was/is Audioslave. Just to give 'em the benefit of the doubt

                  • Hows About

We forget the political stuff, Morellos idiotic quote and concentrate on getting Rage to get their sorry asses over the the UK.

Thats what we should be concentrating on.

Plus, really, couldn't it be both? Money and Politics do go hand in hand

                    • Money and....

RATM's politics certainly don't go hand in hand.

  • Well, I'm going to Coachella

Despite Mr.Morello's quite frankly gimpish comments, I've taken the plunge and bought a ticket to LA for what should be a pretty interesting gig. I never got the chance to see Rage when I was younger (Coldplay in 2001 was my first gig ffs) so I'm pretty damn excited.

And the lineup for Coachella beats the hell out of any of the mainstream festivals over here. Sexy.

    • Of course the Reformation was political

It was all about putting religious power back into the hands of the People.

Sorry, it just occurred to me.

    • Certainly

RATM was never famous for a sense of humour, but on this occasion I bet he was not being serious

  • Whatever...

Whatever it takes to get them back together is all that really matters. Let them bitch and moan about the country that allows them the free-speech and temper-tantrums that manifest to ass-kicking great music. And yes, they can preach all the great things about communism while that lap up all the profits of their music, thus becoming wealthy like the very people the try "to bring down". Oh yeah, and what about the 100 million people slaughtered in the last century in the name of communism. Yeah 100 million plus. Shut up and ROCK, BITCH !! No one ever bought your albums to be politically enlightened.
