Gerrard seems happy and effective on the right at the moment and sissoko/mascherano serve a different purpose to Alonso. The great thing about Liverpool at the moment is the strength in depth so I reckon unless they needed the money selling Alonso would be a bit uneccesary.

We have recently struggled to keep up with Manchester United and Chelsea and in those terms we DO need the money. We have never been able to spend more than £15 million on a player and the top two have on many occasions. That is the difference, sadly.
I agree with you on the strength in depth thing and really believe we shouldn't sell him if money comes from elsewhere. We are really 1 or 2 players away from challenging for the league - certainly a 20 goal Drogba/Henry level striker and possibly another creative wing player.

And before anyone says that was the UEFA Cup, UEFA seem to treat both as the same competition, so if one player plays in either competition and then moves, they cannot play in the other competition. See Ricardo Rocha at Spurs not playing against Braga.
