The B-52’s have recorded up the follow-up record to 1992’s Good Stuff.

Funplex will be out in the US on February 26th 2008, 16 years after their last studio output.

Apparently in the pipes since plotting began back in 2003, the band’s drummer-turned-guitarist Keith Strickland said of the record: "We thought, we’re gonna keep [touring], we’re gonna need some new songs for the show, we need to put a new album out there.

"This idea for the sound of the new album just popped into my head,” he continued to Rolling Stone, “and I felt that the sound and direction of the music would be right for us, so for the first time in years, I felt inspired enough to begin writing music for a new B-52’s album."

It doesn’t look like the ill-apostrophed act will diverge too much from stomped ground - "It’s loud, sexy rock & roll with the beat pumped up to hot pink."

DiScuss: How’s your beat this afternoon? Mine’s lingering somewhere between pre-war claret and Dresden fuchsia.

Good God Noncommittal

I hope for something inbetween the genius of Devil In My Car and the fuckawfulness of Love Shack (the rest of cosmic thing was lovely by the way, just THAT FUCKING SONG GRRRR). Also Cindy Wilson left and was replaced by (eek) Julee Criuse, her of twin peaks soundtrack fame...

I found out the other day that Fred Schneider did a solo album produced by Steve Albini with Shadowy Men etc as his backing band, sounds awesome :)

Their first album was ace

everything after, shite. Love Shack...oi vey! that's feckin awful shit.

I saw them (for a few songs anyway) at the Orange County Fair a little while back and they looked old. They sounded like a nostaglia act. Meh.

That's rubbish

they released lots of great music after the debut ("give me back my man", "mesopotamia" and "legal tender" spring to mind). Yes, Love Shack is dreadful, but you can hardly judge a band's career by one song alone...

I love them

but i haven't exactly got high hopes for this...

I heard five of the new songs

at that there pictured gig: they sound a lot more like the last three albums (more pop, country) than the (post-)punk genius of the first two.

As much as I love their s/t

I'm getting sick of this...
