Okkervil River have put together a covers record, which you can download for free.

Reported on Pitchfork while we snoozed, the overwhelming demand for the Golden Opportunities Mixtape crashed the band’s own web servers, so the music site helpfully hosted it here.

What’s on it? Okkervil go for Gainsbourg, S., Cale and Mitchell J., Sandy Denny, the Fugs and Jimmy Webb/Nina Simone.

Here:

‘April Anne’ - John Phillips
‘Simon Smith and the Amazing Dancing Bear’ - Randy Newman
‘I Want to Know’ - Charles F. Olsen/Ed Sanders
‘Do What You Gotta Do’ - Jimmy Webb
‘I Can Here to Say I'm Going Away’ - Serge Gainsbourg
‘The Blonde in the Bleachers’ - Joni Mitchell
‘Antarctica Starts Here’ - John Cale
‘Listening to Otis Redding at Home During Christmas’ - Will Sheff
‘Solo’ - Sandy Denny

As you can see, the tape also boasts a new original from Okkervil man Will Sheff, whose band play these UK dates in February.

Expect next year to do big things to Okkervil River.

This is lovely

But I would've liked to see their Bill Fay cover on it...

As they say in Glasgow

You f**kin' dancer!

Brilliant at the Luminaire shows and the supports were tip top. Jaymay (East Village NYC) and A.A. Bondy (Freewheelin era Dylan and Heartbreaker era Ryan Adams).

Can't wait for the Scala in Feb.

More Okkervill!!!!

yes yes yes

loving this band so much at the moment.

yes yes yes

A new original Will Sheff track...

...already available on their 2002 album "Don't Fall In Love With Everyone You See".

I love new things that have been around for 5 years. (And, yes, I know this is a more recent live version)
