If this means bands being more productive, I'm largely for it but I'm not seeing much evidence at the minute.
(I say largely because I still like the idea of a body of work that you're intended to hear from start to finish...)

I really hope this doesn't happen.
I wan't to hear a structured album not just a collection of tracks released individually. Even if they released a "best of" every few years compiled of all the songs from that period, I'm still against it. Once they release this "best of" we will have heard all the songs, I like the mystery of an album when you will probably only have heard one or two tracks. It's also not likely to flow properly in this format. Not a happy Muse fan here. :(

I'm not too fussed if Muse decide to do it, but I wouldn't want to see everyone doing this. I like the album format, it's one of the reasons I very rarely download individual tracks.

This is obviously apart from what I've read/heard about them. I take it that you're not a Muse fan then? Just imagine if your favourite band was doing it. I suppose you already have and that's why your concerned. Silly me.
If this was the new "way forward" for bands I would quite possibly kill myself (A bit of an exaggeration obviously but I needed to express my horror at the possibility of this happening).

don't get me wrong, I'm not their biggest fan but I own their albums and thought they put on a great live show a Leeds fest a couple of years ago. But, yes as you say, I would be highly distressed if a band I realy loved decided to do this which is why I stuck this up here! :o)

I don't actually dislike Muse that much. I'm just getting a bit sick of seemingly every band talking about changing how they will release music when you know most won't do anything about it

Yeah, when a "best of" gets released, it's far more enjoyable when it's not just a singles collection. The latter are for parents' Christmas presents, not for mid-year release.
Plus having a single track here and there is irritating.
PLUS Muse have said they want to experiment more with the sound that they did on Supermassive Black Hole which means only this: nasty student clubs nationwide will inevitably be playing each track released until ears bleed and liquid floods from noses
The next album by Muse should be:
1. Very orchestral, songs with layers & layers of noisy trumpets, violins etc.
2. Some slower piano songs with Bellamy's customary high pitched groans.
3. More use of electronics but mainly as a background to the main event so to speak, can't over do this.
4. Absolutely nothing like Starlight, please.
5. Obviously there has to be some spacey sounds in there somewhere.
Lets call it Galactic Star Eruption,
I'll think of a track listing later.
Black Holes wasn't as bad as most other Muse fans seem to make out. Map Of The Problematique, Assassin, City Of Delusion, Exo-Politics and Hoodoo were all good. Take A Bow, Starlight and Knights Of Cydonia were pretty terrible the rest were just average.

BH&R i enjoyed Take A Bow, Map Of..., Hoodoo and thought City of Delusion was alright, albeit a bit Muse-by-numbers.

thing is very mid-90's when Britpop bands thought that was the way to make a good album. It isnt.

so do we not want good quality output from people from now on? The problem of non-album format is that artists won't maybe be as selective about what they release everything and a load of not-that-great songs will be out there for public consumption.
but if they save up their best and most immediate songs and release those as a set then people like DiS will probably accuse them of trying too hard/selling out/abandoning 'high art' in favour of hits...
Maybe some people prefer album songs as opposed to singles.
Some bands write really decent singles but others are better on albums.
Hope they don't
but I'm starting to tire of Muse anyway. They are (were?) my favourite band but they just seem to be getting further and further away from what made them good in the first place, still great live. But this, and with reports that they're going to go down the Super Massive Blackhole road musically it's seems like they're never going to release an album as good as OOS again. Sad.
After sitting through one of there Wembley shows last year..
