Ok enough Indie miffling. What heavy stuff are you listening to a lot recently? Why should I listen to them?
I've been listening to Harvey Milk. You should all listen because they're crushingly heavy. And they have an awesome goofball attitude for a doom band. I mean, they named an album 'My Love Is Higher Than Your Assessment Of What My Love Could Be' and break into a rendition of 'I Vow To Thee My Country midway through a song. Basically, they're awesome.

Thorns - S/T
Perhaps not including Volcano by Satyricon or Equilibrium by Emperor, it's the greatest black metal album there ever was.
I think the heaviest album I own is by Deftones
I'M AN INDIE PANSY!
I tried listening to Mastodon a while ago but I just found it funny.
Newest Mastodon album is great!
And I don't really like 'real' metal!
im pretty obssessed with converge at the moment
listen to them.if i was to pick one band thats sound could only be described as "heavy" it would be them
DEP - Ire Works
Has been getting a fair bit of play recently also;
Opeth - Deliverance
Mastodon - Remission
Opeth isn't heavy
their music is so calm and lovely
I should listen to Doom. Because it sounds sexy.
Listen to Melvins
and Kyuss.
Then try some doom
but the melvins bored me :(
Well you won't like doom then
But how can you not like this song?
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=XBaxRYGtrkI
Okay, that's pretty neat.
Very.
Drugs
were surely involved in that video.
listening to a good bit of big business
i love 'em :)
Khanate - Things Viral
The Ocean - Precambrian
Xasthur - Defective Epitaph
Brutal Truth - Extreme Conditions Demand Extreme Responses
Cursed - III
All records I've been listening to a lot recently that could be loosely grouped under the heading 'Heavy Stuff', I'd say.
That's the point of the thread title
I want doom, metal, hardcore, whatever.
Also, I really need to listen to Khanate. Where's the best place to start?
Either
Things Viral or Capture & Release. Both are ace.
Its really sickening stuff, I love it.
The Ocean
...actually rather good. Like Isis but with better vocals
Down I Go
because they're the greatest. They sing about dinosaurs, disasters, robots and tyrants. The singer yelps like a wounded T-Rex, they have a song called 'Billion Dollar Burning Coffin' and the noise they make is unsinkable.

Get thee to a shop and buy 'This is Disastercore' then spaff yer load listening to 'Turkmenbashi' here:
http://www.rememberthisdayforever.com/mainpage.php?h=596&w=1007
\m/
I listened to Turkmenbashi.
I didn't get the love.
listen again.
ok
I'm right this second listening to Coalesce, as everyone should.
And Cancer Bats, Textures, Kane Hodder, Johnny Truant and Emmure are also pleasing me.
...
Textures gets a big "mmm" of approval from here.
The
new Ufomammut album is excellent, I love it. Really heavy, reminds me a bit of early Electric Wizard.
I like Twin Zero a lot
are they heavy?
actually i don't think they fit in this thread
some parts of some songs are heavy though
...
What are you talking about? The last half of their first album at least, is one of the heaviest things I've heard. Plus - two drummers.
well I've not heard of a lot of the bands mentioned here
so I thought that comparatively, Twin Zero might not be heavy enough.
By heavy stuff I'm asuming you mean anything "metal".
At the moment I'm listening to.
*Dog Fashion Disco - Anarchists Of Good Taste
*Mastodon - Blood Mountain
*The Dillinger Escape Plan - Ire Works (I've also recently purchased Calculating Infinity)
*Fear Before The March Of Flames - The Always Open Mouth
Dog Fashion Disco sound like an metal band that were born in a circus, yet they still have the crunching riffs to back up their experimental tendancies. Probably my favourite album at the moment.
^ glad you're loving DFD
;D
You can't really go wrong listening to
anything and everything on Profound Lore records at the moment. Especially enjoying Cobalt, Alcest and the Angelic Process.
And listen to the new Meshuggah album.
I have also been listening to some things 'from the vaults', like Ved Buens Ende, and Demilich.
MESHUGGAH
heavy LPs i own and love
Part Chimp - 'Chart Pimp' & 'I am Come'
TODD 'Comes to your house' & 'Purity pledge'
The Swarm 'Red paint on the odessa steps'
System of a down 'SOAD' & 'Toxicity'
Mclusky 'Do Dallas'
ATD-I 'Relationship of command'
The Cows 'Peacetika'
Rapeman 'Two nuns and a pack mule'
bits of that album by The Swarm
are really nauseating, in a good way.
Mastodon x2
I also dug out a couple of old Kerrang! and Metal Hammer covermount CDs the other day, rediscovering Pulkas as I did so.
In a slight aside, 'New Noise' by Refused came on in the car the other day and I expected my wife to skip it, but instead she asked who it was and put it on repeat. Result!
Greed
by pulkas is still a good album in my book.
You are the second person in three days
to tell me to listen to Harvey Milk. I just ordered "My Love".
was the other one Jamie Summers?
No
It was a friend of mine who's in a band called Avenging Force. They're pretty heavy, actually, although the stuff on their myspace (www.myspace.com/aforce) is closer to their original genesis as a Live At Leeds-style Who ripoff. Looking forward to their Albini-produced album.
That's a really bad name
But that song "The Gentle Assassin" is really great.
The new Torche album - Meanderthal
I've been listening to that too
Very good. I currently still like the first one better though.
At the moment
Cursed - III
Heavy Winged - Hunting The Moon
Unearthly Trance - In The Red
Dropdead - Discography
Ginnungagap - Remeindre
While we are on the subject of heavy music
has anybody heard the new record by The Goslings? Grandeur of Hair was amazing just wanted to know if the new release is just as good.
it's great
Good to hear
I will purchase it off Not Not Fun website now.
Unearthly Trance
are really great. Lair Of The Minotaur are pretty decent metal too.
I ordered the new Lair of The Minotuar record
the other day but to be honest anything described as "a concept album about solving conflicts with a big fucking axe!" gets my vote.
*
Minotaur
Some of their song titles are immense!
I saw them at the star & garter last year, it was really sweet. Slaughter The Bestial Legion!
Doom #2
I've been listening to a lot of Harvey Milk lately, too, great band. Received my copy of The Pleaser in the post this morning, in fact. I've also been jamming ridiculous amounts of Electric Wizard (new album is the badger's nadgers) and YOB, who, if you haven't heard of 'em, were one of the Doom genre's great unsung heroes.
The Pleaser
is the absolute dogs. Especially 'Lay My Head Down'.
hey duuude
you need to listen to some Brainbombs. They've got some singles comps on Load. Swedish post-Flipper sludge with deadpan seedy Euro vocals about sex and murder.
behold:
"Her mouth around my cock.
A gun against her head.
Bang I blow her head off.
That's it.
Hey Baby, you look a little pale.
Are you sick?
I have lipstick on my dick."
http://www.myspace.com/brainbombs
Meh.
I like that song, but everything else on their myspace left me a little cold. And not in a good way.
the stuff sounds really shitty on myspace
it's much better 5 times louder with bassy speakers and a six-pack in you.
I've listened
to Winnebago Deal all morning, Plato O Plomo, George Dickel, Dead Gone then ...Raven. Ace (but Raven really wasn't a patch on the stuff they did before).
I took a break to listen to a bit of the new In Flames album, sounds pretty good.
Raven
as in the almost big but not quiet in the 80s Raven? I loved them as a kid!
Wow. That's REALLY harsh.
I'm wincing slightly at the lyrics.
well done for making me listen to Flipper
I haven't for ages.
"Have you ever seen a couple kissing and felt sick?"
Amen.
...
Somewhat predictably, I'm listening to the usual Dillinger, Down I Go, Meshuggah combination that soundtracks my entire life.
Additionally, I've recently entertained:
Fantomas - Director's Cut
The End - Within Dividia
Kayo Dot - Two albums whose names I can't recall right now even though I'm listening to one as I post this.
Burnt By The Sun
Mastodon
i was going to say
meshuggah, but you got in there.
+1 on Burnt By The Sun!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ViP28dcJf-M
single footed blasts all the way :D
BTBAM, Black Dahlia Murder, The Ocean
Been listening to BTBAM's Colors loads. It's release completely passed me by but it's epic * 10. It's pretty much one song over eight tracks that is 64 minutes long. Awesome swing/egyptian/random breakdowns.
Am always listening to Isis/Mastodon/Earthtone9/Opeth too.
I've mentioned Colors countless times on here
best album of last year easily. Needs more love!
Other heavy stuff I'm digging as always - Cephalic Carnage (Lucid Interval era), Beecher (the only uk band up there with Converge etc surely), the new Origin is disgustingly heavy, Sikth (wrote them off at first but their guitar work is well cool), Curlewpandie.
Oh and anyone with an interest in tech death need to hear Psycroptic. And not hear the new Cryptopsy, which is pretty shit.
Noxagt
And Converge, as always.
My other music love apart from indie is metal haha
heavier bands include: Amon Amarth, Soilwork, Machine Head etc. etc. epic/power metal style bands aren't particularly heavy so don't count athough I listen to a lot of it.
Right this moment
I'm listening to Earthless. The album is called "Rhythms From A Cosmic Sky". It's preposterously long, psychedelic stoner rock with endless soloing and I love it.
Ohhh yeaaaahhhh!
Theory Of Ruin
Alex Newport from Fudge Tunnel and Nailbomb
Absolutely incredible. Not at all metal, but just riff-packed and the drummer is amazing.
Oooo
I'd like to hear this.
http://www.theoryofruin.net/
There's some Mp3's on the site.
Bitchin'
Cult of Luna
Not chugga-style heavy all the time, but I love the soundscapes.
The Ocean- Precambrian
Alt/ avant-garde metal at its best.
Lamb Of God- Sacrament.
Not that heavy but a with a good groove to pump things up.
Converge- Jane Doe.
Best metallic hardcore band EVAR. I don't need to say any more.
Also try:
Botch- American Nervoso
Roots- Sepultura
Dopethrone- Electric Wizard
...
Kudos on The Ocean and Electric Wizard, sir. The latter in particular being one of the greatest bands, like, ever.
I'm also
downloading some Turisas.
Battle Metal!
their costumes
make me cry
with laughter
bit of harvey milk too
some fantomas, naked city, earth, melvins, sabbath, all the classics.
I got The Directors Cut from a friend for a quid or two the other day.
He hated it. His loss= my gain. It's amazing.
what a fool
its awesome.
Does Boris count?
Or Pussy Galore?
Rwar.
COALESCE
0:12 Revolution in Just Listening
that, and Calculating Infinity.
Rammstein
Sepultura and that kind of stuff is as heavy as it gets for me. love em both.
shit yeah
What's the new album like?
I want it. Nothing they ever release will be better than Heavy Rocks though :(
I prefer Flood
it's lovely
I don't have that
I don't actually have any of their drone work. I should get Flood and At Last... really I guess, but it doesn't appeal to me as much as their bombastic side.
Flood
isn't too droney, and the payoff is worth it at the end.
I really like Amplifier Worship at the moment too, the Ganbou-Ki/Hama double header is almost perfect - massive bass and drums.
in flames
dark tranquility
too heavy?
No such thing
Cherubs - Heroin Man
This is a fine fine blown out noisy rock album. Especially good if you like Unsane and ting. Handily you can listen to a song from it called "Wornout Balls" (lovely) here
http://www.myspace.com/cherubsfuckingrule
Someone from this band is in the band Ed Hall who are fairly similar. Both of em were on Trance Syndicate.
The Trance Syndicate 'roster' looks class!
