Stand-Alone PC Based Drum Machine

What with all the 'gear' talk today, i've wrongly assumed i'd be out of place asking this:

I'm looking for a FREE (repeat, FREE) stand-alone drum machine in a fruity-loops, step-sequenced stylee and was wondering if there was a definitive one that people in the know could recommend? I won't put illegal software on my pooter anymore, for various reasons (stupid broken computer) and i need to start demo-ing new songs and thought this was my best bet. Thanks!

I'm all over the gear talk today

I have nothing for you.. I just wanted to big up the gear talk.

Sorry. :-(

No probs

GO GEAR TALK!

Give it 5 minutes

and mdash will have found a way to big up Ableton on this thread ;-)

So what are you looking for? Something where you can create the loops and then export them as an audio mixdown to use in a sequencer like Cubase/Pro Tools/Ableton/whatever?

Yeah, well the thing about Ableton is....

Nah, I've no answer to this one either.

Nice

that was only 4 minutes

Unfortunately, I think this whole thread might be falling down on the word 'FREE'.

I'm still at work

The F5 key is wearing through on my keyboard.

Have wine though. Huzzah.

I think the thread is falling down on the words 'FREE' and 'I won't put illegal software on my computer'.

If I didn't put illegal software on my computer

Then I wouldn't have any software on my computer.

I'd have Windows and Ableton

And about 20 mp3s. The copy protection on Ableton is a cunt though. I had a cracked version, nothing wrong for months then the night before a gig - BAM. It came up with a pissy message and locked. Had to reformat my pc, and redo the entire set. IN ONE NIGHT.

The gig really, really wasn't worth it.

Yeah...

when using cracked versions of Ableton, it's wise to make sure you have a version with the phone home protection cracked.

Yep, same with me

Ableton has a way of breaking your entire PC through your internet connection. Hence why i don't have any illegal software on my pooter.

You're lucky you got it done in one night though, i've had it messed up for months before!

Just something that works like a sample based sequencer that can be prgrammed to play songs

Then i take a line-out into my special magic box and recordify it. Then lay guitar over it. Hey presto! Dubious demo in a flash!

riiiight

just get a trial version of fruity loops or something... that's if Fruity loops still make just the drum machine bit.

It all seems a bit VST these days

Yes

i did look into that, it is the simplest solution, but couldnt find anything... hmm.

Well

I'll be looking for Fruity Loops later so if I find anything free and legal (yeah... right) I'll let you know!

that site that searches rapidshare and megaupload

has lots of cracked copies

yes

i am interested by this too.

someone will know im sure. calling all uber geeks

you say that

but no one has named me a good electric drum vst instrument. (yet)

I think everyone's scared to reveal their secrets incase everyone starts making awesome tunes.

make your own beats

In battery. Mate did that with all these kitchen sounds. Was great!

agreed, Battery's very useful for drums

if you're looking for a dedicated drum vst then Drums From Hell's supposed to be really good but I've not used it. I do most of my drum editing in Reason with REX files.

XLN AUDIO

ADDICTIVE DRUMS.
end of.

DO IT IN SOUNDFORGE

By hand, by ear. Hardcore!

At uni

I once had to record kitchen sounds and make them into a drum beat. I got told off for making them sound "too much like real drums" in soundforge.

Dicks.

I had to do that!

Something similar anyway. I've no idea what it had to do with web design but it was the best bit of the course by far.

It was wicked. I got a C. Cunt.

Go to....

www.kvraudio.com, they'll have loads of stuff there.

Alternatively go to www.hitsquad.com/smm, plenty of music stuff (a lot of it is demos, though).

Or you can go to www.brambos.com and get 'Lunchbox'. It's great.

RB

actually

scrap brambos, the site is rubbish. Just go to kvraudio.com and find a free instrument.

Ahhhh shit. Sorry, KVR is mostly VSTs. I should've probably explained that. Get a standalone VST host then.
