Hmmm....

Elbow and Sigur Ross make me go all woozy, but most of the rest is pretty pants.

two sets from the coral?

and Sigur Ros and Spiritualized in that setting should be fantastic, never mind the ned-tastic nature of the rest of it.

Except it's probably not

going to be at Inverary this year, or at least according to what The Twilight Sad said last week (who are also playing incidentally).

it is still at Inverary

according to the website

Right.

According to James Twilight the landowners weren't happy at the state of the place after last year and were reluctant to hold another festival again. Maybe some kind of deal's been struck since?

they probably guaranteed

to cut a fatter cheque for them given that it'll no doubt sell out this year with that kinda line-up. Ticket sales were poor for ages last year

are you sure

he wasnt talking about indian summer? i know that its not being held in the same park this year due to local residents being upset with the state of the place, and no word on wether its going ahead at another venue this year....

Nope

Definitely said Connect.

whoops.

i was so upset at the news that i made that error.

Sigur Ros don't impress me live and the rest can all sit on themselves.

That is soul destroying

Seriously, that sucks massive donkey balls, I was looking forward to this so much!

Pfff

Anyone else losing track of what/where all these festivals are?

Yes.

The bubble will burst someday.

baws

grinderman are about the only decent band and even then i'd prefer the bad seeds.

i was supposed to see my friend's band there too, but they can forget that.

yup - it's

going totally against what made it fun last year. And as my b/f just said "turning it into T In The Park mk.II".

Tragic.

:(

they probably saw how popular (and brilliant) it was last year and have opted to go for making somemore money, instead of, y'know, putting on an actual good festival.

i think it might be because ticket sales

were pretty slow last year. I mean, they got there in the end, but not without ubiquitous advertising.

Plus it's controlled by the same tossers as those who organise T in the Park methinks

doesnt really make sense

as im guessing bands such as Kasabian, MSP and Franz Ferdinand would cost more to book.

lol out loud!

Also, why is it now called the

Hydro Connect Festival?

You idiot, can you not read!

"Scottish Hydro Electric are the UK's leading producer of cleaner, greener renewable energy. They are going to be invaluable in assisting with our pledge to make Hydro Connect as green as possible"

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

nooooooooooooooooooooooooo

(The breeders would be good, as would spiritualised and Mercury Rev)

What happened to My Bloody Valentine

or Portishead playing this, i'm genuinely upset by this line up, this was the only festival I knew for "definite" that I was going to, now i've got no festivals at all! I'm even considering T in the Park now and just sulking in the Pet Sounds Arena all weekend.

UPDATE LINE-UP

also:

Paolo Nutini
The Levellers
Mercury Rev
Camera Obscura
Roots (is this meant to be The Roots???)

it looks like V

Duffy? Really?

and Vexed

Camera Obscura

are playing a few mid to late season festivals. Hope that means the album is arriving ahead of expected time.

For the first time in months

I am glad that I gave in and bought a ticket for T. This is a very disappointing line up.

I have to admit

I'm now thinking of trying to get my hands on a T ticket.

Yeah

there's actually a fair amount of good stuff at T this year....Rage, Aphex Twin, Interpol, The National, Deus, Battles, Ben Folds, Band of Horses, British Sea Power.

Granted, there's a lot of utter shit as well, ut you don't have to go watch that

It's a shame

as like most folk here Connect was going to be one of festivals i was definitely going to until i see this uninspiring line up. Franz would get the crowd going, Grinderman is one i want to see but apart from that its just pish they’re going to have to have some great smaller band to pull this back.

Tis a poor line up.....

I was getting really excited when I heard the line up was out today but that is a bit of a downer. Grinderman, The beeders.......
Compare with Bjork, the beastie boys, LCD, MIA, Seasick steve etc etc last year!

Poor indeed.

With the exception of Sigur Ros and Manic Street Preachers, possibly (for nostalgic reasons) it's disappointing.

It's like all film sequels, utter crap

Connect 2008 = The Matrix: Reloaded

wah wah wah

the first bands announced for a festival are always shit.
just look to the eits atp announcement. that furore gave me stomach ulcers.

last years first announcements

were Bjork, Beastie Boys, Mogwai, Primal Scream, LCD Soundsystem, Regina Spektor, MIA, Bat For Lashes and Modest Mouse...

....i highly doubt the lineup is going to redeem itself and become worth of my cash

I generally appreciate this point when you make it

but this is so far away from the line up last year, and will completely change the festival's demographic.

The reactions above are completely justified.

Wow...

..this is shiter than I expected. Looks like a TITP line up really, which isnt that surprising considering the organisers.

I'm heartbroken

Amy Macdonald
Paolo Nutini
The Levellers
Mercury Rev
Camera Obscura
Roots (is this meant to be The Roots???)

Glasvegas

didn't play Connect last year.

compared to last year

that is so bad..... latitude is going to be the summer fest of choice for me!!!

no mega bus this year to glasgow then...

apparently

the coral are playing too...

that same

hilarious joke re: that error has been made twice prior yours

yea i know

i said it cause it had already been done twice

in which case i apologise

....for both the error and the snapping.

oh my god, it's going to be full of manics fans.

that was one of the best things about connect last year: no complete fannies/chavs. but with that line up it's just going to be titp mark 2. gah.

ahhh fuck this!

there were no bands last year that i actually hated, but kasabian, msp?! yuck.
last year was so good.

connect line-up

Bollocks! Sigur Ros are amazing, Duffy is foxy as f*ck. And Nick Cave - his new stuff Grinderman is cool as.

only the first announcement

sure there will be some more interesting acts announced, this is only the first lot and who actually sees all the bands anyway? that's why festivals are great - you can pick and choose...I'm usually too busy wandering about, people watching!

The festival's worth it just for the oysters! mmmmmmm

yeah, but by the time this

many bands were announced last year, it was in very good shape and only a slight few artists/bands of interest were subsequently announced. I reckon this is pretty indicative of the quality to come.

And i don't eat oysters, so i'm at a loss there too.

"Duffy is foxy as f*ck"

Look at some pictures of her, then.

I'm gutted

I also found out today that Indian Summer is defo cancelled so there is no alternative.
Pish line up, its going to be full of neds and at least years line up made the weather bearable.

Cunts

Fuck

I didn't know Indian summer was a goner too. I had a great time working there last year. My festival schedule this year is getting smaller each day.

What???

Gutted Indian Summer ain't happening this year, why's that? Had a brilliant time there last year

I think the Yoker/Scotstoun

locals complained that Victoria Park got left in such a riotous mess

Party Poopers

:(

oh

grinderman and spiritualized aside there's not much there for me to get excited about.

underwhelming line-up to say the least

Fuck

What a horrendous line up. I was planning on getting my girlfriend a Connect ticket for her birthday. Now it's back to the drawing board. What a load of pish.

...

Bloc Party got added today...... gutted

I thought Connect was started in the first place

as a sort of "spillover" festival for acts that they wanted to play T In The Park but who couldn't make the dates?

In which case I think the lineup being so good last year was more a happy accident than the result of any deliberate planning on the part of the organisers. This year's really does look like T-II. Bah. I'm away for most of the summer and only getting back in August, I was relying on Connect to be decent so I could get to at least one festival this year.

bloc party

:)
a ray of light. this makes me very happy!
bloc party, sigur ros, camera obscura, and i think the twilight sad might be there too. it's shaping up nicely i think.

There is one course of action needed from the promoters to resolve all this

...bring out Tom Waits

otherwise, I think I might try Woolfire the same weekend.

Disappointed!! But not surprised…..

I was at last year’s Connect festival and like many other people I was hoping that the Connect festival would be the saviour of the farce that TITP has become. Geoff Ellis is loosing money on this “New” festival and he knows it! That’s why there are bands that obviously don’t fit the Connect type of
Audience (Leftfield) The festival was directed at that market and he is pushed the
Panic button after last year’s Results. He (Geoff) should know that Connect would never be a big seller to the “casual” music fan. The beauty of last year was that EVERYONE was there for the music to have a good time and see band’s maybe not that well known
With like-minded music fans. The only alternative for the past 5 years would be to head to balado. And sit through hours of shite music in a soulless field with Fannies that don’t care about the music to see 40 mins of your fav band playing to a crowd who could not care less

Thou the line up does how it’s merits... Geoff Elis should have bagged My Bloody Valentine & Portishead to follow last year’s expectations

And he failed

Funny… anyone remember Glasgow Green? (Gig on the Green??)

Looks like connect will go the same way

GOD NO

elbow.

^^^^Thats pretty much spot-on!

I cannot disagree with anything Knightboat has written!

i can

simply by the fact that Connect was VERY well attended last year. what were these 'results'?

eventually

but not without MASS promotional work done before it. Ticket sales were poor for a while and i suspect the larger, more commercially recognisable names have been put on the bill to accelerate ticket sales this year.

went last year

and it was the best festi - bar glasto - i've been to. shame the line-up looks so pants this year... but as i have to be at a friends wedding anyways it makes me have less regrets :)
