Shouldn't it be LACK OF Demand forces organisers to give festival-goers second opportunity!?

Must be a bit of an embarrassment for Eavis and co...t

But I still think it is a good thing that they didn't sell out immeditetely. Hopefully now my dumb brother who didn't originally register can come along!

It is a bit in a way

But I also think it highlights a big point - remove the touts and there isn't that high demand for festivals now - even Reading had weekend tickets on sale two days after they were released, and smaller festivals aren't in the same demand as last year either really.

Also that there is a limited pool of bands capable of headlining festivals - pick the same old same old and everyone moans. Try something a bit different and everybody moans. Seems mediocrity wins.

Also, does anyone else find it a bit weird the media is banging on about lack of demand? While it hasn't sold out yet, it still sold 100,000 tickets. That's a fucking lot

Didn't Reading

supposedly sell out in two hours? Thought that's what I saw last week.

I do agree though, touts have massively inflated the economy for festival/gig tickets.

That's what they said

But there were weekend tickets on See up to two days afterwards. Not to mention in a couple of months they'll do the old "More limited tickets on sale" when they'll sell thousands more.

Also Reading and Leeds sell a quarter to their tickets directly after the previous one

Ah, same as last year then

I remember buying tickets for someone through See about a fortnight after they went on sale.

Oh, and touts >:o(

I take your point on board but it still sold out....

last year in a few hours and it had registration then as well. I think it has more to do with a number of problems outside of touts. Not great line-up so far, terrible weather the last few years but most importantly for me was the overcrowding last year as it was so noticeable from the year before!
Also there are so many other festivals to choose from, every year there seems to be another few that have popped up!

Yes, but last year festivals were IN

The weather at Glasto last year put off the fair weather Sloanes who went because they were told to. They;ve fucked off - good, pissed me right off. Yes it was overcrowded, and whilst I don't deny they oversold it, the mud didn't help as it meant people couldn't spread out.

Yes there is more competition, but taking my point about how the demand for festivals is waning, that is spreading a thin base even thinner.

not what they used to be

The whole festival thing has become too organised. I was born in Reading and attended the festival as a boy in 1977/78 - (gives the age away a bit!) Man, that was a festival. Camping right up next to the arena with your car/van. Security was basically pissed up bikers. There was naked swimming in the river, mud up to your arsehole. Hippies and bikers everywhere. Hawkwind on stage! Slade singing Merry Christmas in August. Beer bottle fights, no toilets. Happy days! Health & Safety have a lot to answer for!

There are too many festivals

and the larger ones all have the same acts on. There's no exclusivity anymore. It's getting hugely expensive and samey. And if the weather is likely to be crap too, you can see why any particular festival is losing its appeal.

Yep

and with just one person who would check your wrist band you could bribe your way in for a quid. :)

The size of the NME font

is LOLsome.

Whats this

"there are too many festivals" thing?

I think the choice is amazing, and they all seem to be selling well (as far as I can tell).

I'd say there are only too many festivals if you are Michael Eavis as your festival is starting to look increasingly flawed in the face so much excellent competition.
