I feel like buying some new post rock. Any suggestions? I'm a big fan of the genre so would appreciate some more obscure recommendations if possible.

So far I've checked out Caspian who are a big fat meh, and Collections of Colonies of Bees who, despite their shitty name, are wonderful.

Pele

people from collections of colonies, and better to boot.

Pele

people from collections of colonies, and better to boot.

Interesting

will check them out straight away. Thanks.

Sona Di

www.myspace.com/sonadi

Only demos so far though

these guys are awesome

saw them on the same bill as my mate's band blew everything else away, shame i was the only one of my mates who actually appreciated it.

Bark Psychosis

Hex

the 'original' post rock album - the term was coined around it.

Its impossible to find nowadays though, so download it.

You wont regret it!!!!

amazing

thanks...been meaning to check this out for ages.

and

there are a few other albums by them on that blog.... none as good as hex, though if you love postrock, you are definitely going to fall in love with them all

Ace!

Nice one for sticking that download up! I've been looking for HEX for ages but have never been able to find it online.

I thought codename:dustsucker was quality, so i look forward to hearing this.

x

you are in for a meg treat

hex is beaut

can you only download this if

you have rapidshare? been after this for aeons.

download part 2,

wait ten minutes then get 1... you dont need a license

ps

part 2 first because it is smaller and thus the wait time for part one to be available to you when you dont have a license is less

you sir

are a gentleman and a scholar.

Oh, and for more recent post-rockishness i recommend And So I Watch You From Afar. From the more brutal, riff-heavy end of the spectrum.

:D

gifts from enola!

fo' sho'

The new russian circles is wicked

and if you haven't already checked them out : yndi Halda are my favorite newish post rock band.

let airplanes circle overhead

proper full throttle post rock genius - zero ambient textures - focus entirely on the rock.

which CCB album should I start with?

Kyte

Minialbum is amazing

Holy hell

What is "Post Rock". Is there now end to these categories?

<rolling of the eyes>

how many times need we require this thread?!??!

Mono
Godspeed You! Black Emperor
Jakob
Ditwiije
By The End of Tonight
Yndi Halda
God Is An Atronaut
Mogwai

Explosions In The Sky

...now will this thread please, PLEASE stop coming up

(P.S. Slint

Russian Circles)

P.P.S. Hrsta

Elizabeth Anka Vajagic
Eluvium

(debatable whether or not post-rock, but you may still enjoy)

/thread

the whole point of this thread is that

i've heard all those bands you listed, and they're the ones that always get listed in these threads. hence me asking for more obscure stuff.

Well...

... even if this thread has been done to death, one great thing has come out of it.

The Bark Psychosis is a wonder, mightily swoonworthy... so, err, yeah, thanks for creating this 'dead thread' and thanks to dear Henry for posting that download link.

any time

spreading the love

constellation

just go to their website and choose a random band. sorted. hangedup are quite cool... just violins and drums... like a post rock dfa 1979 hahahahaha

this must

be tongue in cheek... no-one could be quite this lame

ahem...

http://plusminusdivide.moonfruit.com/

my band. only just started and it's kinda here and there at the mo.

stay tuned if u care tho. we have songs to record betterly then they'll appear.

Caspian

I think they're brilliant. To each, their own.

i've heard great things about them

but they seemed pretty standard to me.

This Will Destroy You

were good when I saw then the other day. Although I've not heard anything by them recorded, yet.

No one seems to have mentionedd

Saxon Shore, in particular the "exquisite death of saxon shore" is amazing

also
You may die in the desert - who inject some extra math rock into the standard post rock template might be a bit hard to get hold of their music though.
Scraps Of Tape
The Album Leaf
The Site of Future Rome
To Be A High Powered Executive
Up-C Down-C Left-C Right-C ABC + Start
Magyar Posse
Youth Pictures of Florence Henderson
The Cancer Conspiracy - who have broken up but I think their album was re released recently
Tarantel
Beware of safety
Codes in the clouds

Codes in the Clouds

are super live.

Also the Errors, Do Make Say Think, Vessels, and Maybeshewill.

Jag Jazzist

Get 'What We Must'

*Jaga

great call though.. first time iv ever seen a mention of them on here. what a stunnig band. that album is simply astonishing in parts

also

The Swords Project
Union Station Massacre
Strap The Button
FractalPattern
From Monument To Masses
Yndi Halda

I don't know much post rock, but try...

Detwiije (sadly no more, but still worth listening to)

Lights On The Highway

They Don't Sleep (R.I.P, awesome band)

These?

I don't usually see much references to these, so give these a go..

World's End Girlfriend
Think bombastic neo-classical peppered with delicate japanese post-rock shattered into tiny fragments then reassembled into an shaky IDM freakout. Absolutely stunning and utterly unique.
Track: 'All Imperfect Love Song'
Album: 'Dreams End Come True' Noble records
http://www.last.fm/music/World's+End+Girlfriend

French Teen Idol
Beautifully crafted organic sounding, slow-motion ambient-electronica. Glockenspiels aplenty!
Album: Enlightened False Consciousness (download it for free at frenchteenidol.com) Net label

Jeniferever
Despite on drowned in sound records, they are rarely mentioned! Beautiful progressive post-rock, with subtle (yet rife) math-influences, breathy vocals (and great lyrics), fantastic drumming and occasional brass/strings bustouts. Essential listening.
Album: Choose A Bright Morning (D.I.S.)
http://www.myspace.com/jeniferever

Omega Massif
This band is you want to listen to if you've been disappointed with Pelican as of recent. Heavy, heavy, riffs-a-plenty, progressive post-rock with an underlying sense of beauty (keep listening if you cant hear it at first).
Album: Geisterstadt
http://www.myspace.com/omegamassif

no one have mentioned

maserati. listen to 'invention of the seasons'. not particularly post-rocky, but good instrumental trl band. i also second magyar posse and jaga jazzist. ef are also worth checking out.

shit

i meant 'invention of the cities'.

No you didn't

You mean 'inventions for the new season'. Great record though.

Her Name is Calla

'The Heritage' mini album is out in June, and it's a stormer.

Good calls on

From Monument to Masses
and
Jaga Jazzist

Never really see these bands mentioned anywhere, but they're both brilliant, especially Jaga Jazzist.

glad to see people

mentioning Jaga Jazzist and Magyar Posse.

Holy Fuck.

Part Rocket (jag!)

^

jaga jazzist i saw two years back (?) at astoria... awesome band!

Envy

Ferocious Japanese band, would kill Yndi Halda at 50 paces but have elements of that navel-gazing bombast thing, v.good. 'A Dead Sinking Story'

^

i'd also suggest the shipping news:)

The Twilight Sad

Fairly post-rock, maybe a touch more shoegaze, but very very highly recommended, their album 14 Autumns and 15 Winters is wonderful!

Obscure?

Probably not, but:
Ólafur Arnalds
For A Minor Reflection
destroyalldreamers
The Evpatoria Report
sleepmakeswaves
Holoscene
Tunturia
Now Yr Taken
The Exploits of Elaine

And to each their own I guess, but Caspian freaking OWN.

Try

Cove, possibly, and a second vote for mono. And another one for from monument to masses. please try to avoid jeniferever...

UK post metal

If you like PELICAN, ISIS, RED SPAROWES, OLD MAN GLOOM etc check out these guys.

www.myspace.com/highschoolisdead

They have a couple of shows coming up i think.
