going to walk up that road

right now to get my copy.

Free CD too!

right?

YES!

free Rock Action CD with EVERY copy!

not as many responses as usual...

...was hoping for, "wow! bold new cover art!" and "you put Glass Candy and Chromatics on the cover! wow!" (the 'wow's are optional).

also forgot to mention there's a Doubtful Guest interview.

...has anyone gotten one yet? feedback welcome (especially if laced with extra wowness).

I know this...

...shouldn't be the reason for buying it but I heard rumours of a new Mogwai track on the CD. True?

I'm going to buy it anyway; I've yet to sample the delights of Plan B.

I love Plan B.

Other than Skyscraper it's the only music magazine I buy these days.

also: WOW!

:D

haven't read it yet

but the cd is great. a bit nonplussed by the new mogwai track though.

hey kicking k

PLAN B IS FUCKING GREAT!!!

yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay

i store all kind words like a squirrel does nuts (um, in a tree?)

i read the

Fucked Up road diary when i was half asleep, and now i don't know if i should ask if it's an april fool.

I would love it if it wasn't.

Also, I am happy you interviewed Gindrinker.

i think

Fucked Up were pretty cleverly/conceptually fictional with the tour diary, plus funny. Gindrinker are fucking oddballs (but goodballs).

Also, just to add: This is a masterclass in the art of the successful JAG

1) Have something great to promote
2) Do it with humour

kicking_k, I salute you!

The

Times New Viking review is one of the worst things I've ever read in the magazine.

b-but

it's by our fiercely wonderful US correspondents Jessica & JR!

oh well, i hope there was other stuff you did like (the illo for that review is one of my favourites in a while).

and Alex, i don't so much see it as a JAG as a COMMUNITY OUTREACH (and if it seems cynical, note that we have - no - advertising budget, and it's actually my day off - that's love, that's truth).

Yeah, it

was one of the better Plan Bs of recent months. I have found the pretentious quota rising lately, which I don't really dig at all. The Portishead interview and Italians feature were excellent, I always like the live reviews too. Also the only review I've read that gets Super Roots 9 bang on.

It's just for a magazine that doesn't have scores, it would be nice to actually talk about the music in a page-long review. If I was new to TNV, that review wouldn't give me any clues.

Who did the cover art?

Its amazing. The Fucked Up tour diary was so funny.

Jussi Brightmore

i'm really keen for us to do more illustrated covers.

I vaguely remember when the 2nd issue came out

and some people said you'd sold out by putting a photo on the cover (Joanna Newsom). 3 years later (?) and you're appeasing them.

hey -

appeasing who, now? sorry - don't follow yr point... is it that we shd always use cover illos rather than cover photos?

there was this dogma floating round our office for ages that 'illustrated covers don't sell'. when the two illustrated covers last year were amongst our best-selling, we finally overcame that.

so, yeah, i'm hoping one in three (at least) will be an illo from now on.

No, I was kidding,

albeit pointlessly and clumsily. Sorry.
I always thought it was crazy how some people reacted to you putting a photo on the cover, like it meant you'd turned into Q Magazine or something. I don't really have a preference - the Afrirampo photo and the Bjork illustration are two of my favourite covers you've done.

I'm gonna slink off right now.

ah, ok.

i think the afrirampo cover, much as i agree it was one of our best ever, did not sell well (this is an understatement). i guess at that point they weren't very well known, but i think that (sensibly) made the editorial team (which didn't include me at the time) wary of putting super-obscure bands on there.

i think nowadays we try and make bold statements that hopefully won't simultaneously alienate vast swathes of people, leading to sales crashes and endangering the future of the magazine...

in other news, when are Pandot going to do further stuff?

Re: Pandot

our rather slow work rate has got even slower since I moved to a different town to my sister. But we're recording new songs for a concept (kinda) mini-album. We have about 4 or 5 new ones nearly done at the moment. We haven't done much else, except we got played on Radio 1 just before xmas, which was exciting.
Thanks for remembering us.

I CANNOT FORGET.

(make sure you send me the further fruits of yr labour).

this is yr last week to buy this.

i realise you probably either already have or don't care, but still, i am here to answer questions, too.

the envy track

that closes the cd, 'a warm room' is amazing, thanks plan b.

True Story

I was at a record fair and was totally blown away by the mix cd coming out of one guys stall: Mogwai, envy, part-chimp etc. I actually spent ages over there and bought a stack of vinyl becasue I liked it so much!

Next day I'm at home and Plan-b plops through my letterbox with this very CD on the cover. Very happy man.

I really enjoyed the magazine as well. Superb.

my cd was misssing

took it back to shop to find it was missing off all the other copys too.
BOO!!!!!!

really? this shd not be.

where did you buy it?

Why don't they stock Plan B in WHSmiths anymore?

They used to near my uni, but they never have it at the Liverpool St one. As such, I haven't read it in quite a while

Do Rough Trade stock it?

go on the website

and get a year's subscription. It's pretty inexpensive and you never miss a copy :)

we're still in some WH Smiths -

i heard Rough Trade sold out, but imagine we've re-supplied them by now..?

yr local newsagent can likewise order it in for you.

or, yes, you cd subscribe. we kiss each copy before they go out.
