I've spent most of the week listening to Kyuss, so tonight I fancied a change. After a bit of Neil Young and Built To Spill, I've moved onto all things Greg Dulli. Started with Powder Burns by Twilight Singers, and I've got Gentlemen and Black Love by Afghan Whigs lined up next to me.
I'm Ready is nearly my favourite song ever. It's driving and mournful, yet deliciously leery as well:
"I hope I see you out tonight, and I hope we get it on" is such a fantastic lyric when delivered in his drawly tone. Absolute rock and roll legend.
i'm procrastinating
so i'll post with the knowledge nobody really cares.
I've been listening to Portishead most of the week, with a bit of The National and My Brightest Diamond thrown in for good measure... but i've put on Return To Cookie Mountain after this place made me want to listen to it again
The reason I asked is I feel stuck in a bit of a night time rut
I tend to just default to Mogwai and other such favourites when it gets dark.
ah ha!
fair enough, i know the feeling. But sometimes ruts can be comforting

the best ever night listening
is "We Can't Be Stopped" by the Geto Boys and at least 6 bottles of Nigerian Guinness. I still remember the exact circumstances of the first time I ever heard "My Mind's Playin' Tricks On Me".

I've been listening to
The new No Age album cos it's really good. Jay Reatard because he's mental and TV On The Radio because of that thread about Return To Cookie Mountain earlier.
I've been listening to back to back Mono tonight
because I was watching the Pelican dvd earlier today, which is awesome, and it got me thinking that I hadn't listened to Mono in quite a while. It's good night time listening.
my mind sighing.
And 'Made In The Dark'.

New album this June.
before about an hour ago
my evening had been made up entirely of Here Come The Waterworks by Big Business and The First Four Years.
But now, due to my iPod being a massive fucking girl and dying, i've been forced to dig out my old minidisc player and collection of old discs. And boy, am i glad i did. This stuff hasn't been touched in years, much of it albums i have no other copies of, and there are a fuckload of my old mixtapes. It's been a trip down "my awesome music taste" memory lane

I just heard they were getting back in the game and releasing a new LP under the moniker The Indomitable Iron Sloth, so to celebrate I dug out their first LP. I forgot just how punishing their riff arsenal is, groovy!
