I know you can't please everyone and that therefore this may well hurt, but with that in mind I'm going to fling myself to the lions.

So... what do you think?

So... what do you think?
bump
nobody got youtube at work or are you all biting your tongues?
Youtube blocked :(
Is this the cover version? What did you go for?
nope...
This is one of ours (actually it's our first single due out in june), we went over a couple of covers in rehearsal but not decided on anything definitive yet (for me anyway - I think my male counterpart is going for a gun club track)
Love ol'55 tho! I'm going to try that next practice :)
'Tis a gorgeous song!
You got a myspace?
indeed we do
www.myspace.com/meetthebangbangs
(and a fledgling 'bang bangs' group on facebook)
Cool!
I will check it out later.
thanks!
Oh and on a related/short notice note, if you (or anyone reading this) are free in London tonite we are playing not one but TWO gigs - first time done 2 shows in a night... might die...
Stage times
8pm - LoveMusicHateRacism post festival bash (I dunno, apparently it'll be really good tho - oh and it's FREE) @ Vibe Bar, Brick Lane
10.30pm - Bullet Bar, Camden
Apols for the blatant self promotion...
You just had to go and clash with the football, didn't you?
Love Music, Hate Racism, Obsess Football. Such is life.
Good luck though!
That's cool
I obsess with football too... but luckily my team play tomoro ;)
Which are you, red or blue?
Mind you, I kind of want both sides to lose ...
Well...
I was hoping manure and chelski would somehow knock each other out of the title race- think I'd rather we'd gone out to Arsenal's flowing football in the quarters than to Sam the Eagle's muppets due to a comedy own goal...
Still think we're going to turn them over tonight tho! 'Mon Red men!
Sam the Eagle? I've always seen him more as Mr Toad
Anyway, I tried to listen to your songs, but my computer's sound-making capacity has gone PPffffTTTTTtttttbopBANGcrash, and the only thing I can do is put the tunes on my mp3 player. Which would be fine, expect Myspace won't let me join (no idea why) so I can't download them.
Meh. I'll find a way round it, somehow. How were the gigs? Were you seriously knackered?
Oh, and ... SCHOLES! :)
Maybe the bastard progeny of the two?
Hmmm well if you go to www.downloadmyspacemusic.co.uk and put our id in the white box (meetthebangbangs) it'll bring up the tracks for you to right click and save. Peasy. Obviously works for anyone on myspace (may have opened up a world of possibility to you there!)
OR there's more tracks up on www.garageband.com/artist/bangbangs
I'm predicting a Riise 40 yard scorcher... well seems to be the week for gingers scoring screamers! As long as it's not Sidwell...
That's a terrifying image and will haunt my dreams ...
Lemon squeezy! Now I can start mining music from Myspace! Excellent ... many thanks. I'll let you know what I think.
A 40-yard Riise scorcher - into which net? Obvious, I know, but someone had to say it.
I'm predicting you lot on penalties. Mostly because I really want to beat you in the final.
Bum
:(
Never mind!
There's always the league!
Oh.
Well, the FA Cup!
Oh.
Er ... the Fair Play award?
(Mascheran)oh.
Well, never mind. At least you're a proper football club! ;)
Indeed
The only good thing was that we watched the match in a massively pro-Liverpool bar so the chants all through the game were brilliant. We played the old 'spot anyone in the crowd wearing a Chelsea shirt more-than-3-seasons-old' game - nigh impossible, obviously.
I find myself in the horrible position of not wanting Chelsea to win, therefore... no, I can't say it.
Come on, you can do it ...
Repeat after me: I. Want. Manchester. United. To. Win.
Now. Doesn't that feel good?
No!!
I'm going for a match abandonment, it's the only right-thinking solution.
Now that's just mean!
I'm hoping Abramovich gets arrested while he's there, and the Russian secret service confiscate his "assets": the Chelsea squad.
The entire squad therefore belongs to the Russian government, who decide to sell Michael Essien to MUFC for a fiver. Joe Cole, John Terry, Didier Drogba, Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole are sent to Siberia to mine salt. Peter Kenyon is executed as an example to others.
Job done!
Can we have Cech
for 2 quid and a gumshield?
Actually I think we need Cech more
Edwin's not getting any younger.
You can have Hilario. They'll probably pay you to take him.
God I hope we beat them! There's nothing worse than a smug Chelsea fan.
Hilarious!
Yeah we could do with a laugh
:D
ol 55
the tom waits' song? It's a great, great song. As is "shiver me timbers" which should be covered more often.
puncht, catchy pop number that
not my bag but i can see the kids going spastic to it.
Cheers
It's definitely one of our poppier ones... (probably why the producers chose it!)
i do quite enjoy this
no JAG denouncers yet!!
i enjoy sam loves guns more :)
there's never any beef
with JAGs that don't purport to be anything but honest requests for an opinion. It's just uber annoying when fo's dress them up in groucho glasses and tash combo and try to pass them off along the lines of "anyone caught Spastic Mongoloid recently??? Caught them at the Cock and Sherpa last night and they rocked my socks off etc"
cheers :)
I'd say they're the 2 'lightest' songs we do but they're fun to play ;)
The gutair tone is horrible
Sorry
Fair enough!
Wow im not sure whether to admire your brutal honesty
or feel a little bit upset for poor old pixie_lanegan!!
I can't listen to it at work but if i did have a listen and didn't like it i don't think i'd actually tell you!!!
it's good
really awkward sounding, really tuneful...something about the way the vocalist slots his vocals into the wrong places is really very impresseive.
i likey.
That's sort of his style
...which is cool, tho can be insanely irritating when we're recording, he's doing lead vox and can't get the timing right...
But it's all good. Thanks for the props sir!
sorry...
my above post was completely incorrect. having listened to the track three or four more times i've realised that rather than being 'good' it's absolutely fucking tremendous.
be proud, innit.
Ace
Figured anyone with a name that checks the Pixies and Mark Lanegan must be worth a listen, and so it was. Excellent stuff definitely worth a repeat listen and a bump on board.
*blushes
Ahh cheers guys! Means a lot to get any nice words from DiSers!
I liked it.
It's not my usual cup of tea but I certainly enjoyed it. I was slightly concerned about the singer's face at various points. He seemed to be treading a very fine line between a stroke and some sort of comeface. But I digress.
god i know
Matt's sex face can be very off-putting. I tend not to look.
Right, finally managed to listen to the songs ...
Really good! Loving the way the voices play off each other. Particularly liked "Misanthropy". Top tune.
When are you playing next?
Thanks!
We were meant to be playing tonite and sunday but both got cancelled this week (some kind of promoter vs venue tomfoolery). So our next gig is on the 10th May @ Islington bar academy- it's part of the 'Feeling Gloomy' night and there's a free clubnite afterwards. Should be a goodie!
PS
there's more songs up on garageband if you fancy a listen :)
I'll check them out!
:)
Shouldn't you update your myspace?
Simone's not in the band anymore, no?
No...
And we've changed the names but we don't have new shots yet (well, none as good as that one). I know, we need one of the new lineup don't we.
Photoshop his head onto her body.
:)
The tracks are sounding great BTW.
Good interim measure...
just confirmed we're getting some new shots done this month, hurrah
T'is good
You almost nicked "Slow Hands" riff on your opening riff.
Very sweet tune- catchy too. Is the jazz bass your main guitar? I've got a butterscotch w/ black pickguard and my Son has a vintage tobacco sunburst 335 Dot- great gits! The bridge sounds like that one 70's pop song that has the lyric "If you like pina coladas and gettin drunk in the day". Good band dynamics (personality and music wise) each member is a unique and interesting character whose playing blends nicely or can stand apart. Love seeing decent female drummer- she is solid, very solid. The song is about 45 seconds too short though- it needs a climactic break where you all take about 3-4 bars each or even a slow break (but still danceable) in the middle and then your punchy outro. But as a demo the tune is good and the video is pretty pro -good kinetic style editing (which usually annoys me but in this case-not so much) and dramatic beats and mugs. There seems to be a slight narrative to it as well and did I hear something about wetting the bed? I didn't get the sex face stuff you were mentioning above. I think the singer's expressions are a good foil to the others general dead pan- he seems to have some acting abilities. I wish there had been a few more KEY isolated shots of the playing itself- the lack there of gives the impression that you are faking your playing- although I'm sure you are not, I just bet you crush on bass.
That said, may I have your autograph- for my Son of course?
Done ;)
(and yeah there was a few missed shot opportunities i think- we WERE properly playing - I actually ripped my hand to shreds really going for it that day!)
"If you like pina coladas and gettin drunk in the day"
That's what you should cover! The Pina Colada song!
Anyway, listened to your mySpace songs again this morning and they keep getting better so ... good work! :)
ta muchly
We got thru 2 new songs at the weekend which is always good :) Thinking 'St James' Infirmary' for another cover possibility... hmmm....
You'd be in some good company ...
Tom Jones did a version with Jools Holland - I assume that was your inspiration, yes? ;)
actually
the gutter twins ;)
Tom Jones > Mark Lanegan
You know it's the truth! ;)
Is the Gutter Twins album worth getting then? I'm disgracefully behind on my Lanegan listening. Though I did let him and Isobel Campbell sing me to sleep last night. Sweet dreams ...
Heresy!
It's v good - the album with Soulsavers was better tho. I'm still deciding what I think of the Campbell duets...
Truth hurts, I see ... :)
I've only got the first Campbell/Lanegan record, and I think it's pretty good. There's a couple of moments ("Ramblin' Man" in particular) where they get the balance of the voices just right and it works really well. And "Ballad of the Broken Seas" is an amazing song.
Though the album could stand to lose a few songs, especially the fairly pointless instrumentals. A solid 7 out of 10, I reckon.
