I always get overexcited when new Fall LPs come out and proclaim them the greatest thing ever, but after a dozen or so listens I really think this one stands up with the very best in their catalogue.
'I got a three foot rock hard on / but I'm too busy / to use it / I'm a fifty year old man / What you gonna do about it?'
- I just can't see it myself. I want to love it so much, but as with the last one, pure disappointment. Nothing can top Fall Heads Roll for tunes anyway. Although there'll never be another "Perverted by Language" or "Grotesque" either. I thinK i finally give up on the buggers, sad to say.
Is there an attack on Steve Albini in 50 year old man?
Im the same I always think a Fall album is there best in years when I first listen then go of it, so im trying to be cautious but it's sounding good so far. How does he get a few loafers from his local pubs and turn them into The Fall so quickly?
Anyone heard the new Half Man Half Biscuit album yet? I will try to get it this week
something about Steve Albini being 'in collusion with Virgin trains against me'.
The musicians thing never fails to astound me. He's got some 16 year old, bald, emo-looking kid on drums this time around. Just outstanding live, a weirdo cross between Bonham and Klaus Dinger.
Off to pick up the new HMHB this afternoon.. With the MES auto-biog, the last ten days haven't been too bad for releases..
because at first no single track really jumped out like the last few albums but as a whole it's their best for a long time. The last albums' may have better individual tracks but IWS HAS to be listened to as a whole. Anyone else find that?
Also, could anybody actually classify this album? I doubt it and that's why I love The Fall so much.
for most bands
open with a weird jazzy track, then 3rd track in lets go for a 13 minute song don't forget to throw in a weird euro pop song, a bluesy cover and an electronic number
blow it's wad all over the first half of the LP and limp home over the the second ('Systematic Abuse' excepted), it's a well needed and welcome change.
I'm a 50 year old man
and I LIKEEEE IT!
I like the one Elena sings as well.
Yes!
Me too.
..
Review'll be up this afternoon.
Disappointingly
I'm struggling to find any aspect of the album to like. Shame.
Best record for a long time

Welcome back, MES.
Just got it yesterday.
Really bloody good, one of the best in years.
MES can do no wrong!
Very strange

Of course
there'll never be another PBL or Grotesque.. Look-back bores etc.
I liked FHR, but this one shits all over it.
Good Lord
the thought of MES with a hard on does not appeal! Or is it just hilarious in its plausability..
No way is this their best
compared to so many far far superior and imaginative efforts. Have you heard every album?
Well thank God for that!
I started a thread on Monday about the simultaneous release of Fall and Tindersticks album. It got no love at all :(
Combined with the fact that there's been no review of either record I got a bit disillusioned with DiS.
Yeah 50yom is great!
going up town
at lunchtime to get it.
After reading this I'm disproportionately excited!
tindersticks
album is fantastic
It's a great record so far

WHAT
NEW HMHB?
TELL!!!!!!
CSI:Ambleside
Came out on Monday.. Check it out on www.hmhb.co.uk
Features the line : 'there's a man with a mullet going mad with a mallet in Millets', which is possibly the greatest lyric of all time.
:DDDDDDDDDDDDD
Cheers!
Another thing to spend my coins on!
When was that out?
i'm not sure i'm going to bother with Imperial Wax Solvent considering how awful i thought Post-TLC was...i might just get Renegade instead.
Renegade
is quite a hoot. Simply written, but pure fun.
Renegade
Its just like reading the rants of a bitter-yet-humourous old pisshead.
Oh....
I love the bit where
he blames celebrity culture on David Frost, Lloyd Grossman and Madonna.
and kinda in a strange way he is right.
It's not the definitive biography of the Fall just the rantings of a true one of.
A strange one..

The track order alone would be suicide

Yeah, it's awesome
Back on form.
they're playing HMV in an hour and a half
Oxford Street
Did anyone catch this?
Yeah
it was amazing!
Get off the internet!
But yeah, they were fucking incredible. Near-hour long set, great sound, Smith on top form. Didn't even have to pay!
High fives all round.
I'm a fifty year old man
what you gonna do about it?
I had a listen to this again today
It's really grown on me. It's quite diverse for a Fall album, and Smith seems on good growling form.
