thats most music then aint it? But I vote for Murcof cos some of the time you dont even realise the album is on than others he blasts ya with organs and all sorts... oh you want bands
dynamics are great. but a lot of bands do underuse them, and are either really loud all the time or really quiet all the time or don't move between the extremes very effectively.
have always been traditionally a note to the performer (pp < ff etc). ie) they are always most evident in a live performance. the way popular music is mastered its very difficult to hear any real contours in the sound.
And no post-rock please
Mon-
oh.
My Morning Jacket?
but then I cant qite remember what dynamics are... can any one explain?
Quiet bits and loud bits.
ah right
thats most music then aint it? But I vote for Murcof cos some of the time you dont even realise the album is on than others he blasts ya with organs and all sorts... oh you want bands
Melvins
Pixies

BUT!
they're rubbish.
so so wrong
I don't know where to start
the most dynamically incredible record of the past few years is
Scott Walker - The Drift
Modest Mouse - Teeth Like God Shoeshine
BRILLIANT =D
...
...I'm not entirely certain, but... is this a completely stupid question? I think this is a really properly retarded question.
you sound
a bit unsure
how so?
dynamics are great. but a lot of bands do underuse them, and are either really loud all the time or really quiet all the time or don't move between the extremes very effectively.
battles?
...
ENVY
Cursive
Cursive cursive cursive. Masterful use of dynamics.
the drift
pretty much base their entire ethos around dynamics and sensitivity. good call on Envy, too.
LOW
more than anyone I reckon.
I love you
I love The Drift
shouldn`t somebody
have mentioned Led Zepplin by now?
or is it just new stuff?
?
...
Or indeed any band.
Not really
Most of the stuff in this thread is pretty inappropriate...the dynamics used by a band like the pixies are pretty timid.
I am beginning to think this was a stupid question tho...I blame digital media.
dynamics
have always been traditionally a note to the performer (pp < ff etc). ie) they are always most evident in a live performance. the way popular music is mastered its very difficult to hear any real contours in the sound.
You're right, obv
It's just frustrating to go back to 'indie' when so much classical music is awesome at this.
slint....
slint...
totally totally this
that was my first thought when i saw this thread
But he said no post rock.
Deduct ten points!
Mew
Try this, you might like it...
On the other hand, you might not..

So you want bands with good use
of dynamics - but no post rock? You're shooting yourself somewhat in the foot I think here.
I would advise on getting over your post rock prejudice and putting on 'those who tell the truth shall die...' by Explosions in the sky. try it.
