Is This It?

As far as I can tell, there's a lot of love on DiS for this album.

Now, when it came out, I thought it was extremely dull. One-paced derivative NYC-rock-by-numbers, sung by a group of people I didn't particularly warm to, and a general triumph of hype and marketability over quality.

I've gone back to it a couple of times since, and never been persuaded otherwise. Should I give it another shot, or write it off and assume I'm just never going to get it?

It's kinda boring

I don't like The Strokes much. I don't understand how people can constantly diss The Libertines, yet love The Strokes?! Same old, same old. Boredom in a cd case.

its one of my faves

everytime its put on its hard for veryone not to just sign every word really loud.

awesome record

Sign all the words!?!

You must be pretty talented!

meh its a bit boarin aint it

Strokes are ok and all that for bringin some good music to the masses.

room on fire is better

but yeah you should go back to it - it's a good summer album

NO ITS NOT!

you are simply mistaken good sir

that be crazy talk

room on fire is just a sub-par version of is this it?

i think i'm the only one who prefers it

i like the prodcution - it sounds 'meaty'and there's more riffage.

I like it.

And those early live shows were fun, when they'd rattle through the entire record in 20 minutes and then leave. Probably not worth the £14 entry fee though.

funnily

a couple of years ago, the general consensus on this album was that it was largely over-rated.

Now, with the coming of many new users and the departure of many old ones, it looks that it has become more popular.

Personnally I don't remember listening to it in full and what I heard of it completely bored me. But I might have been already too old when it was released...

Are we talkin bout The Strokes?

If so, I too have had trouble getting over with them. I have 3 cds that have great moments but I have no trouble forgetting to listen to them. They remind me of The Feelies (who I never forget to listen to).

I think it's excellent

but yeah, it possibly holds more of a place in my heart as Hard To Explain was the first single I ever bought, and it turned me into a new form of music.

it is a 9/10 for me.

Effortless, melodious,'cool' and what i'd like to be playing as i wander down the road in the opening shot of my (as yet unmade) bio-pic. its fantastic. Over-hyped? yes. One dimensional? Yes. but who cares? Its brilliant.

It's pretty good

I was a bit put off it at first by all the hype but it is a fairly strong album. Finishes very well with NYC cops and trying your luck.

Wouldn't say it is the classic it was built up to be, unlike TOTBL and Echoes, which were about at the same time.

Pretty good!

But sparked a whole generation of Sh*t bands!

Let be honest now!!

I reckon it got a lot of people interested in music though

Ok a load of dross may have followed them but at least there is some reasonable stuff played on the radio these days, it was much worse before the strokes came along.

Hard To Explain is quality

The rest is bobbins; dull, repetitive, derivative, over-hyped and generally unnecessary. Room On Fire, though, is just wank.
