OmMiGod
Have you of the Clash?
I'll just re-iterate
That song is not worth listening to in 2008.
riiiiiiiigggggggggggghhhhhhhhhtttttttttt
I'll agree
with you. This time.
i was saying right in a sarcastic way
What's going on here?
I doubt ChrisJabe has gone through his life to date without hearing the song that threatened to become the Clash's most famous at one stage, despite being shit.
im just saying the clash are good
so is that song
I'll just point people
In the direction of the Au Pairs. Poppier, more political, and better: http://www.last.fm/music/Au+Pairs
the two arent really that similar though?
In that
They were both very political band writing poppy songs in the early 80s? Oh ,you many that one was played on Virgin? Sorry.
Well if you consider the majority of the Clash's output
it sounds very little like au pairs. im not saying they were shit, but theres plenty of political bands about.
Nope
Just as poppy, just as 'world', just as reggae. In fact, The Au Pairs have a wider influence. VERY similar bands, not that I'm denigrating the Clash's impact, just pointing out that The Au Pairs had one too, and it's wider than you think.
im not saying theyre shit
far from it, just they arent similar
Too drunk
And I shouldn't have started it. Just a long-standing hatred of people who like The Clash... remind me of Oasis fans...
And a long-standing belief that eberyone should listen to The Au Pairs.
You hate people who like
the Clash?
You hate me. And many others.
I'm very sorry.
And I don't hate you, of course. You're much more than the sum of your music collection :-)
oh shut up
you just sound like a massive twat
And you're
The defender of The Middle-Class punks?
yeah pretty much
defending them against drunk twats who think they are too good to listen to the clash
Well thats very silly
what exactly is your problem with people who like the clash?
That the band they like
Aren't that good. But I still social with them. It's a bit like people who like Joy Division, in fact.
what the fuck are you on?
I have to level
I don't listen to Joy Division, preferring other bands of their ilk.
You're a bit annoying
Yeah pretty much intensely annoying
"I don't listen to Joy Division, preferring other bands of their ilk"
I mean, you'd have to be pretty much a total retard to say something like that.
Woah there
I like other bands that produced music at around the same time. NOTHING against people who like Joy Division.
but why are you judging people for liking them?
are you just looking for ways to be a snob?
crazy
drugs.
crazy drugs. how was the lake?
yeah it was good thanks
i can barely walk today though, think i pulled every muscle in my legs. did you go?
no :(
i had work to do. and work. to do.
how did you pull all your moo-slays?
ah right :(
ive finished now and am just sitting round thinking i should be doing work, but then i remember i dont have any :D
i think it was just from running around after a football like a headless chicken
Sorry
Not meaning to start a row, I was commenting on the fact that 'Rock The Casbah' isn't worth getting excited about in 2008.. I then pointed people on a message board towards an early-80s band that had more to say. And then, ashamedly, I revealed I don't like Joy Division, despite owning all their reissued albums and early bootlegs. DiScussion?
hehe
this chap makes me chuckle.
*pats Adas*
Nestles
Under you :-) You're warm.
if you make a silly statement
people are going to react. especially when you list bands like prinzhorn dance school in your favourite bands.
Ha ha
Listened to the album?
nah saw em live
bunch of shite
You preferred
Which Fall album?
never really listened to the fall that much
(SHOCK HORROR I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT MUSIC) been meaning to give them more of a listen, only listened to shift work
wow
is that what goes for an insult these days?
A very apt band
to bring up in an early 80s discussion. Do tell us your thoughts.
what are you on about?
stop being such a pretentious dickhead
Like I said
I'm not on about anything. I thought you wanted to have I discussion about them, assuming you brought them up for a reason?
yeah because you obviously think you are some higher being in terms of music taste
when in reality you like some shit bands. asking a question that doesnt actually ask anything doesnt win an arguement.
You don't like Prinzhorn
I don't like the Clash. Now, what were we talking about?
that was it
just you seemed to think you were above listening to the clash
Oh no
I've listened. You thought I was commenting on something I knew nothing about?
Who would do such a thing
Here?
No, but that you drew parallels with Oasis
just signifies to me a pretentious indie music fan
NOT the bands.
The fans.
what is your problem with the fans then?
That some
Don't listen to the music objectively, and even worse comment on things they have no knowledge of. Back to Prinzhorn?
so you are basically being a snob?
and suggesting people shouldnt listen to music they just because they like it?
No
I have no interest in controlling what you listen to. just a music forum.. Comment on what you feel like..
but you are judging people based on that?
Judging no one
And you're judged me, I presume?
based on the opinions expressed here
im guessing you think bands like oasis arent worthy, whereas neutral milk hotel etc. are. and you think people that like oasis are below you
Well
Some of my bestest friends listen to Oasis, and The, what are they called, the ones with that 'I love you' song that's always on Virgin... THEY'RE still my friends. I thought we were discussing the Clash?
yeah but you mentioned the Clash and Oasis fans in a negative way
im still trying to find out why exactly you think this.
Probably
In the same way you mentioned my opinions in a negative way?
i just think its silly to think that liking oasis or the clash or whoever makes someone less worthy
keep dodging the question yeah
Sweeping generalisations
I feel sad this morning :-( What a twattish drunk I am :-(. I believe I may not have had a point, but if I did, it was that you shouldn't criticise something without listening to it first. Was that my point?
No
From what I can gather, your point was that you don't like The Clash, Oasis or Joy Division and, as such, you consider their fans to be lesser beings than yourself.
That's quite a leap
I don't consider anyone's music taste as an arbiter of their personality, and I certainly don't HATE anyone based on it. I So I must apologise for steaming in and sounding off :-(
That's fair enough
but that's just how it came across.
fair enough
i did think you may look at this today and feel a bit silly :P
*
(I may have already admitted in this threads that I was drunk. Drunk = twattish sorry :-(
The flaming on here is
insane...
Just a conversation..
Please feel free to add your thoughts :-)
YOU FUCKING WHAT?
I was trying
To get this person's thoughts involved.
i was replying to him
it was meant to be a funny joke. way to go!
I personally quite like
Rock the Casbah, the Clash in general and Joy Division..flame away my friend ;)
See above
For my thoughts :-)
Yeah..i was just commenting on this little duel
you guys have got going on here. Get a room already :P
oh i get your joke now
in context it's quite good, i'll give you that :)
thank you
I know
I didn't realise there were sacred cows anymore :-( We can talk about everything, can't we?
Absolutely everything
.
Right you bampots.
Rock the Casbah is a fucking GREAT song. Yes, its not quite got the adrenaline rush of Complete Control, or the riot-inducing sound of White Riot, but it shows - in 2008 - that the Clash were completely innovative, and willing to try new things. It came on my mp3 player a few weeks back and I suddenly had a flash of "shit, that song is classic!".
I've also started to like (after several years) songs like Bankrobber, and I keep thinking I really should check out "Sandinista" at some point (everyone told me it was shit when I were a lad...so I never bothered...although now everyone is saying its class).
Sandinista
Is a good album, definitely... Probably my favourite. Do most people prefer 'London Calling' on here?
Somebody Got Murdered
Sandinista has some of The Clash's best songs:
Washingston Bullets
Police On My Back
Hitsville UK
Charlie Don't Surf
Ivan Meets G.I. Joe
The Call Up
The Magnificent Seven
also has a lot of rubbish tracks
Good thread guys.
Props.
:-(
I don't want any of this to stay on the internet :-(
