hey gang! i know this thread has been done a million times and i know that threads exist on this subject already but advice on what to do in new york would be great! i'm also using this thread for my excitement and to ask you: how do i book american gig tickets without a credit card??? we want to see Subtle at the knitting factory but afraid it will sell out.
so yes, advice please, remembering i can't drink because i'm 19 and we're staying in some place called "upper west side" or something like this.
also guntrip reply to my PM :@
sorry!
i read it when i got back from ATP and forgot to reply.
jonny roastthemonaspit has my rough guide. if you can get it off him you're more than welcome! :)
oh ok cool
i'll PM him in a bit and see what he says :D
you can
certainly have it!
ask guntr...
oh
kill people.
or get murdered?
most likely by gun shot wound.
when are you going?
PS1 gallery definitely. If you get a ticket to the MoMA you get in free as its affiliated. And instead of a regular MoMA ticket get a top of the rock combo so you get discounted entry and go to top of the rockerfeller! (better than going up empire in my opinion as you can actually see the empire AND be really high up).
sounds good
i'll let my brother know, i think he mentioned all of those places when he was telling me about it before :D
we're going next wednesday. it was quite a last minute thing really, just booked tickets four days ago.
ooooh... i have no idea.
but i'm going to new york too, so i'd quite like to know suggestions also!
i'm 23 so alcohol-places is obviously mandatory.
especially with your 40 units a night consumption! :P
just eat lots
when i was there i pretty much ate like a king and loved it. i'd definitely recommend picking up the time out short list as it never let me down the whole time i was there.
also try and hit a few of the bars on the bowery.
doubt you'll be able to book any tickets without a card. do you have a debit card? i booked a few on mine no probs from ticketmaster and just collected them on the day.
i have a solo card
which they don't accept and my brother has a maestro which they also don't accept surprisingly. i think we'll just chance it and try and go on the night.
we will eat like kings. i've got a list of about ten pizza places that we need to go to definitely :D
mmm pizza!
i went to what is apparently the oldest pizzeria in NY called Lombardi's and they do a cracking pepperoni.
Also check out Il Cortille in Little Italy for amazing italian food. The waiters are great and say 'fuggedaboutit' in a non-ironic way, they have loads of pics of the sopranos cast chowing down in there all over the place PLUS they forgot to charge us for our drinks so it was really cheap.
NY
MOMA is pretty good, worth a visit if you like art
Bowery Ballroom for gigs (if you walk by sometimes you can get tix beforehand, depending on the gig obviously
Shops: some good vintage type warhouse ones in williamsburg and Brooklyn (the music hall is there too)
If your going in
september make sure you go to the ATP..
So Dis is the only place you can get advice?
is DiS the only place
you can vent your inane frustrations with the 21st century?
you're really boring
i've looked at lots of fucking places you boring twat but i just want people to share first-hand experiences.
return
Try and get murdered
Apparently its quite hard to do now
You're probably more likely to get sued than murdered
these days.
lots of info here
http://www.drownedinsound.com/articles/2429118 complete with cool/scenester tips from vikram!
also, massively jealous - have fun!
i totally printed that out the other day :D
vikram's tips scared me lots though and i can't drink so a lot of them were redundant :(
there's some good record shops around Bleaker Street
also, next door to one of them is a pet shop with a HUGE cat in who lives there, that was cool.
i saw that cat!
he was really mega fat. i think i have a picture somewhere but i don't know how to put it on the interweb :(
Get everyone to sing New York, New York
and talk in a posh london accent
they love that.
i can't wait to do this!
going to milk that for all it's worth.
go recordshopping
in particular at
Other Music on East 4th St (and Broadway)
Etherea on Ave A (and East 4th St)
Mondo Kim on St Marks Place (and 3rd Ave)
The Cake Shop on Ludlow St (and Stanton St)
Sound Fix on Bedford Ave (and North 11th St) in Williamsburg
excellent
thank you :D what about earwax records? is that worth going to? i think my brother mentioned that as a place he wanted to visit.
Earwax is
great, there's another place down the road (maybe Sound Fix... cant remember) that had a huge second hand second and a masive 2nd hand clothes store too.
Williamsburg is my favourite place in the world. I'm so jealous.
Sound Fix
sells new and second hand records (both vinyl and CD) but no clothes. And a cute little bar room in the back. There's quite a few second hand cloth stores on Bedford Ave in Williamsburg.
Here's the tread I started
before I went
http://www.drownedinsound.com/articles/2429118
but in brief
Go to Williamsburg
Go to Coney Island
Go to the top of the Rocafella center
Walk EVERYWHERE and take it all in
Start spreading
the news?
Anyone stayed at the Marriott Marquis hotel
on times square??
thats where i'm staying... because i'm attending a conference in the hotel... apparently it's a good location?! i have no idea where anything is in relation to everything else.
times square
is a bit of a tourist trap hell really, bit like Leicester Square. But that might just be me. Looks amazing at night though.
i'd much rather stay downtown
but it's a good location, in that it's convenient for the rest of manhattan (very central)
it's a bit like staying near
leicester square or somewhere. but better than that, don't worry
JOE'S
