I'm typing this listening to the Jesu / Eluvium split LP which is a much treasured piece of vinyl of mine. First side is Jesu, second half is Eluvium. I think this is a great idea because the two bands are in some ways similar and yet obvioulsy very different. I bought it for the Jesu songs but it's the Eluvium stuff that is now closer to my heart.
So... why doesn't this happen more often? I know Bright Eyes have done a few but... it seems like a great way for indie labels to get a bit of cross pollination going in their fanbases.
and more to the point
Which 2 bands do you think would be ideal to share a split LP? hmmm?
At least one band is shit
best split lps i can think of
Twelve Hour Turn/I Hate Myself
Shotmaker/Max Colby
Sinaloa/Ampere
Cats and Cats and Cats / This Town Needs Guns
I know it's an EP but it has 8 songs so that's good enough for me.
Jimmy Nail/Jamiroquai
was quite daring, but they pulled it off.
Did it have the acoustic demo of 'Love Don't Live Here Anymore' on?
i'm glad there aren't more
not because i don't like them, on the contrary, i've never met a split LP i didn't like.
BUT, if there were more, and were more popular as a format, we all know that the record companies would use it against us...
e.g. a split (insert favourite band here) and JAG (or CRAiNE/Avram Grant etc) lp
CRAiNE/Avram Grant
LOL
Avram grant?
I must've missed that one

=D
yeah that's why I liked the
Jesu / Eluvium one - two good bands (on roughly the same level of knownness?)
I suppose the fact that music is available electronically as a download means that if Radiohead did a split with Girls Aloud then you'd only need to download those tracks you wanted (whichever that might be...)
Complex Full Of Phantoms FTW!
By The End Of Tonight & Tera Melos
Also the Cats x 3/This Town Needs Guns is good.
In answer to your question, I don't know but there should be more.
