Bright Eyes confusion

I just read on nme.com that Conor Oberst is set to release a solo album.

I thought he was a solo artist anyway, as Bright Eyes. Or was that a band? Am I the only person massively confused by this?

Yeah, pretty much

He basically just has a different backing band with this album. Don't really know why though.

Bright Eyes

are a proper band. He's just the frontman. People will be annoyed at this.

but he does

kind of do all the songs. I think he arranges them as well doesn't he?

Bright eyes is a loose collective

/band put together to play songs which are written by connor, but which are shaped massively by mogois as well... much like many other bands in which there are a core of central members and a fluctuating group of support players.

Think of this as a

Nine Inch Nails vs. Trent Reznor affair.

Nine Inch Nails is Trent Reznor, he writes the music and gets other people to play it live, and the bits he can't do in the studio.

Trent Reznor is Trent Reznor, he scored some of the Lost Highway soundtrack for David Lynch as a seperate artist to Nine Inch Nails.

Basically, Conor is probably just distancing himself from Bright Eyes to do something a little bit new, maybe stuff he's never tried before, and probably doesn't want to be tied down to what people expect of Bright Eyes, by just using his own name rather than his established band name.

Thank

you.

except for bright eyes ahs at least 2 members...

permanently and integrally.

or that

i'm not really up to date on his work...i'll check it when I can be arsed.

oh and smog / bill calahan

would work this analogy too.

I thought this also..

..I was then told otherwise by Bright Eyes fans.

How are people still not getting

that Bright Eyes is a band?

THERE ARE TWO MEMBERS!!

so NIN, smog are not really decent analogies..

3 members

I thought Bright Eyes was Conor and Mogis

I could be wrong though

he said if he ever recorded without mogis

it wouldnt be a bright eyes record which is what he seems to have done. I am kind of pleased, I love mogis' work but its getting a bit samey, not every song needs slide guitar. Feel abit sorry for nate after finally being given permanant status as I think he is in conors backing band for this too.

.

my feelings are that bright eyes has gotten to a level, that when using that moniker they have to be producing stuff such as im wide awake its morning, cassadaga, the kind of stuff that Q magazine would love, would get him grammy nominations and allow him to involve emmylou harris and such on his album...... his next album as bright eyes will have to be a finely crafted alt country -ish affair like bright eyes have been doing of late... wheras playing as conor oberst, he can play to slightly smaller crowds, play some songs that he has been knocking around for a while, that maybe couldnt cut it for the next bright eyes record, and also more importantly have some fun.......... could be totally wrong there, but thats what im thinking

I'm

one of those who always thought he was a solo artist..

its a no moggis =no bright eyes thing

for sure.

But i believe in the shows theyve played so far they have done a couple of bright eyes covers.
