can anybody recommend me something like this? That is probably a really bad name to give it but I didn't know what else to call it.
I've got work to do and want something ambient but still interesting and inspiring.
I'm thinking along the lines of Drift Yellow Swans (and Psychic Secession), Black Dice and maybe Wolf Eye's quieter stuff without vocals from Dead Hills and Human Animal
Fennesz
'Vienna' is my favourite album of his, but everyone else seems to prefer 'Endless Summer'
good call Garth
Jesu
It's ambient but it's got some skull-crushing noise to it too - I can work to this stuff without any difficulties!
not sure it is exactly what you are looking for
but pretty much the most beautiful and dreamy things I have heard lately (but still heavy, loud intense) would be anything by the The Angelic Process and Nadja's latest album.
Both on myspace.
thanks very much to all these suggestions
I'll have to investigate
I was actually thinking about Nadja, they sounded really good from an article I read in Plan B. I'll definitely have a listen to them. Anything with an "organic" feel would be greatly appreciated too
here is a recent thread
http://www.drownedinsound.com/articles/3198590
I have what I think is the latest Nadja album and he has started using real drums so it sounds more "organic" (dependent on definition).
what's the name of
the latest nadja album?
I don't know if it is the latest
because he puts out a lot of stuff, but it is from this year, is called Desire in Uneasiness and is brilliant.
Jóhann
I've been listening to Jóhann Jóhannsson's Englböm recently. It's quite dreamy and may be slightly more involving that you are considering, but it's worth checking regardless.
Try:
Deathprod or the Nebulous Dawn boxset of Tangerine Dream's early stuff.
that album's wonderful
i kind of prefer ibm 1401, a user's guide, but hey. also, olafur arnalds in that sort of vein. yum.
Definitely
I have Olafur bookmarked for a later date.
Murcof - Cosmos
I dunno if people count it as noise but ist damn pretty and ambient made up of orcestral drones and such like.
good shout - thats quality
I really love it
beautiful stuff
Yellow Swans
At All Ends is another good one to get if you like Ambient Noise - I prefer it to the two you mentioned. Their live album Descension is worth a look too - quite similar to Drift.
Belong as well, Colorless Record and October Language are both worth a scope.
I
really really need to listen to some more Yellow Swans, I've not heard much at all, apart from those two. So upset I've never seen them live though.
eARTH
s'latest album
Stars of the Lid
are probably my favourite ambient/drone band.
Try Avec Laudenum or And Their Refinement Of The Decline.
Or perhaps give Growing a go.
...And Their Refinement
is an extraordinary album, a real warmth to it and endlessly complex that rewards countless listens
Also, Labradford's Me Media Naranja, and the Books are really interesting.
I quite like...
Gruntsplatter. I have the album Chronicling the Famine. Has a dark ambient feel to it with layers of harsher noise just below the surface threatening to rise up and take hold.
There's so much here
I'm clearly not actually going to get any work done now
ambient euphoric noise?
ktl?
final, justin broderick's experimental project.
and an ickle jag, forgive me

Fear Falls Burning
Eluvium
there's always earth / Sunn o))) / boris (lower case) if you want to go down the drone avenue.
I've been working to Steve Reich a lot lately...
modern(ist) classical composer, using lots of repetition and so on. Is nice.
Im terrible with classifications
but I think Labradford fits what youre looking for..Check out Mi Media Naranja, western cinematic loveliness.
oh and Rhys Chathams
A Crimson Grail (for 400 Guitars)
Crimson Grail
is a good shout, the 1st track is one of the most glorious things I've ever heard. The guitars sound like an angelic chorus.
not sure
if this is what you want but how about *shels
http://www.myspace.com/shels
ROBEDOOR
astral social club
I want to check out their stuff.
Terry Riley maybe? Not really noise at all but pretty epic.
I got a vladislav delay album and it's definitely ambient and interesting but not noise - the four quarters.
I've been getting into jane (panda bear and his less famous friend)who are again probably not noise in any sense but are a cool ambient band.
Danse Manatee by animal collective is kindof noisy and ambient in places.
I'd recommend any of these just generally.
Astral Social Club!
As already mentioned and in another thread to-nite.

Set Fire To Flames!!
Agreed
muchly
These are fantastic
www.myspace.com/tristesinrichard
Short-lived modern chamber orchestral project, I've been completely unable to find any actual recordings but there's a few tracks for download.
I'm not sure about 'Ambient'
but both Toe
www.myspace.com/toemusic and
Rashomon
www.myspace.com/rashomon68 do quite pleasant noise stuff.
Jasper Leyland
http://www.myspace.com/jasperleyland
it turns out I know this guy and hadn't even heard his stuff. Its more on the ambient side than the noise side but I think it's worth a mention. Beautiful stuff.
Just
Listened to Set fire to Flames - Awesome stuff!!!
wow
at all ends is pretty great, I think I probably prefer it to the two albums I already had. Much more ambient
Aube
C Spencer Yeh
Helhesten
Beachfuzz
Carlos Giffoni (Sort of, abit harsh at times)
Robedoor (abit droney)
Pocahaunted
also try
Emeralds
Mouthus
I know
its a little 'mainstream' compared to some of the others here, but Liars' Drum's Not Dead fits the bill I'd say.
Also, some bits of Acid Mothers Temple, & Sun 0)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))) is oddly soothing.
William's Basinski's Disintergration Loop's are worth a listen too, although more droney string loops rather than noize.
Apostrophe
madness there! ^ ^^^^
oops.
