Yeah, I went there.

Not really a fan of the stuff that came before it or that dire new album, but this really is an underrated gem. So many great choruses.

Bleed Black, Dancing Through Sunday, This Celluloid Dream, Girls Not Grey, all corkers.

Anyone else going to own up to loving it?

The Art of Drowning was their peak,,,,,,,

I remember the shit they were releasing in the mid/late 90s though.

It's all gone a bit MOR now.

For real?

I dunno, I feel they realised their potential with this album, their older stuff was half catchy, half trashy bog standard punk, as opposed to all catchy well thought out pop rock.

Guy (badmanreturns) put it quite well actually, they were like 'a good MCR' if such a thing is possible. Melodramatic fun.

4 Real

The mid/late nineties stuff was pretty dire, it was more straight up hardcore. Then they sort of became a Diet Misfits for a while. It's now a bit generic MTV2 'alternative rock', although quite what it's supposed to be an alternative to, I'm not sure.

It's bizarre though, I remember seeing all of the adverts for AFI et al in Thrasher magazine when I was 15, I find it amazing that so many of them are still around.

I think that definitely applies

to the new album.

Yeah they've gone through so many image changes, Davey Havok especially...interesting fella.

I knew this would be you

I might whack this on in a bit, after I've finished the Midtown binge that seeing Gabe play 'Become What You Hate' last night has sent me on.

Seriously?!

This is from last night, Gabe from Midtown doing 'Become What You Hate' with All Time Low as his backing band, with a little help from Vinnie from The Movielife. Fucking amazing. (I ended up going both nights in the end by the way lol).

i love it

it's a tremendous album in my opinion, awesome tunes.

I loved it

when it came out, it had amazing choruses, and one of the best opening tracks on an album. It got pretty old pretty quickly though, and then the next album was terrible... although I quite like playing Miss Murder on Guitar Hero, even though I hated it when it was getting heavy play on MTV.

I really want to hear it (Sing The Sorrow) again now!

i like this album

i havent heard their old stuff or their new stuff really but this album has some TUNES on it!

Nah, Black Sails was best.

Art of Drowning second.

and it was all downhill since they left Nitro!

Ah, memories! =)

yeah some shit like that

i have to rub my eyes a little at their new ridiculous my chemical romance esque fashion sense, i cant believe i was ever into that band THAT much. like i was gonna get a tattoo. man i still so would.

this thread

made me listen to Girls Not Grey. I don't have the album though, in fact the only AFI album I have is The Art Of Drowning which I liked at one point but now it's just too generic and melodramatic for me.

my friedn playd this to me the other week

first time i've ever heard it, and yeah i agree, it is a bit of a gem. most of the songs seemed spot on, even now
