by thischimingman

What is it? I reckon it's something by the Smiths, Wonderful Woman or Jeane most likely.

Radioheads

talk show host or true love waits.

Hit and Run

Super Furries

or Mussle Rock by Pavement

Wrong

Hit and Run isn't even the best B-side by the furries.

That would be 'Glo in the Dark'....amazing!

Hmm

i don't think they recorded it well- live it's amazing, on record it's not as good.

I enjoy Hit and Run, but there are loads of other brilliant SFA b-sides... whatever takes yer fancy I spose

lose SFA points

best 'Rings around the world' B-side is Tradewinds.

this is hard

Animal Collective - Safer OR
The Arcade Fire - Broken Window

both are AWESOME and i'm sure i'm missing some obvious other ones

I would.

I would have to say it's 'We'll always like Big Poppa' from the tribute to the Notorious B.I.G.

I mean..

love.

We'll always love big poppa.

How stupid of me. It is not possible to simply 'like' Biggie.

my dark star

by seude.

end of thread

*

suede

Suede

Had a great run of amazing B-sides didn't they? Until about '96, when it all seemed to dry up. But 'Dark Star', 'Living Dead' and 'Insatiable One' are all fabulous.

Joe - www.anewbandaday.com

surely it's...

1963 by New Order, b-side of True Faith..... or am I just showing my age?

it is

'what the world is waiting for' bside to fools gold, naturally.

Wasn't that originally the a-side

but quickly changed it when people realised Fool's Gold was better?

No Place To Hide

by Ash.

Or possibly Everyday by Buddy Holly.

Gloria

by Them

Probably one of these...

http://www.varsity.co.uk/arts/717/2/

From a student newspaper article I put together.

(And since I probably wouldn't bother following the link either, they are:

The Model, Kraftwerk
Unchained Melody, The Righteous Brothers
How Soon in Now, The Smiths
Talk Show Host, Radiohead
Maggie May, Rod Stewart
Queen Bitch, David Bowie
Eleanor Rigby, The Beatles).

you've done yourself proud with that headline,

and not bad choices either.
From what I can remember, I think Sorted For E's and Wizz should be in this list, or was it a double-A side with Mis-shapes?

I'm with you

on The Smiths. Um, Back To The Old House perhaps? Rubber Ring? Oscillate Wildly?

either

How Soon Is Now? by The Smiths

or

I Am The Walrus by The Beatles

good shout on 'Talk Show Host' too.

Wherever I Lay My Hat - Marvin Gaye

bside to Too Busy Thinking About My Baby.

or Half Man Half Biscuit's 'Hair Like Brian May Blues'...

Would it be

uncool to suggest 29x the Pain by the Wildhearts? When they first came out their bsides were often stronger than the singles, in fact the only band I would ever buy cd singles for. This was years ago mind...

Pennies

The Smashing Pumpkins

b-sides

hit and run by the furries, i remember that!

foo fighers - the colour and the shape b-side (off monkey wrench)....that is an absolute fukkkkin tune. why its not on the album of the same name i do not know. its the heaviest most angry track they've ever done with loads of demented feeback. i truely recomend everyone to listens to it!

Yep

Colour and the shape is a great song.
Might just turn that into an Mp3 now...

I personally love

'how I miss you' which I think was there first ever b side

Nope

That was the equally excellent Winnebago. Great drums on that.

I was gonna suggest

29 x The Pain becuase it IS the best b-side ever! Suggesting it makes you cooler than you realise!

Good one,

Contested by The Boy and Set The Ray To Jerry though.

foals

astronauts and all
quite a good song

Rain by The Beatles

I win

Yeah,

you do...

Don't Let Me Down

and Old Brown Shoe are pretty good too...

^^^^

total class

Falling flame by Echobelly

No one will agree on that.

How Soon is Now

Talk Show Host - that said Oasis and Acquiesce is a good shout

Stones Roses - Fools Gold

was originally the b-side to 'What the world is waiting for' before they switched them round for the re-release I think.
Oasis have a few good uns.
China Drum - Wuthering Heights
There's another article on this very topic here:
http://www.spinner.com/2007/06/18/20-killer-b-sides-no-20/

Blackbird

by the Wurzels.

static in the cities

hope of the states

^

ooh, nice call

Unbelievable call.

My favourite. All of their B-sides were brilliant though.

Honourable mention for Distorted Reality by Elliott Smith.

not the best b-side ever

but worth a mention:

skeleton by bloc party

defo

worth a mention

The Coral

Ghostriders in the sky

Must be

Matador by Arctic Monkeys!
My favourite AM song \o/
Or! Specialist by Interpol which must be one of the best songs ever <3

Matador was never a b-side.

It was a double A-Side on a white label release with Da Fram 2R and also a bonus track on the Japanese release of Favourite Worst Nightmare.

The best Arctic Monkey's bside is Temptation Greets You Like A Naughty Friend.

Little Thoughts

Bloc Party

underwater love song

by ultrasound

Frances The Mute

The Mars Volta

or... maybe... just a day by feeder.

'noise'

by The Sundays off the 'Goodbye' ep. very very special.

'This is My Idea of Fun'

by Mansun.

In fact pretty much anything Mansun never put on an album would fit nicely here.

Same goes for Super Furry Animals.

storm and stress by bloc party

or dearth by foals

^^This

I couldn't believe it was from the Little Kix era.

"I Care" and "When The Wind Blows" are also particularly good Mansun examples.

But why has nobody mentioned Radiohead's Polethylene yet?

Alex

by the eighties matchbox b-line disaster

Hafssol

by Sigur Ros from the Hoppipola single. Wipes the floor with everything on Takk.. Anyone else think this album sounds weak now?

Sebadoh

Of Soul And Shoe on their Flame single

Rabid Dog

is my fave SFA b side

Late Bar is the best B side ever

I always quite liked

The Delaney by The Libertines, always get the feeling they're slightly looked down on on here though?

I'm quite partial to "Dilly Boys"...

as one of their b-sides too

and

Mayday

Pixies

Into the White

^^^^^

This, lots

brand new - coca cola

absolutely devastatingly good.

British Sea Power have loads of great ones - Gale Warnings In Viking North, Salty Water, Moley & Me...

Santa Clara by the National is fantastic, b-side to the Mistaken For Strangers single I think.

Also, Gibraltar by Tellison is their best song, it's really fucking great.

oasis

also had a decent b-side with masterplan... but its got to be true love waits by radiohead for meee...

Suede - Killing Of A Flash Boy

Soundgarden covering The Stones Catfish Blues
Blur - Taste
Ultrasound - Kurt Russell

It was Stray Cat Blues

Their version of Earache my eye was also fierce

yeah your right

don't know why i wrote Catfish?!!!

...and with the scissorkick is victorious

biffy clyro b-side to the ideal height

General Militant

By Thick Pidgeon.

^^^^^^^^^^

fucking hell, their best song , this man knows

Lots of amazing choices, but I vote for Mayday by The Libertines, Bernard Butler done wonders with them and it's a shame they never done more. 1min 50 seconds (or something like that) of chaos, bliss and absolute fucking madness.

Pulp- Mile End, surely.

Honourable mention to Frightened Rabbit- Set You Free; brilliant cover, brilliant B-side.

Failing that; Into Tomorrow by Willy Mason is one of his best songs, Modern Girls & Old Fashion Men by The Strokes with Regina Spektor is quality, and i love Secret Machines' version of Astral Weeks.

aneurysm by nirvana

obviously.

I've only scanned the thread but has nobody seriously said this?!

This ^^^^^

a million times.

maybe not the best

but worth a mention:

'automatic' by rainer maria
'pig' by liberty 37

Grandaddy

SIKH IN A BAHA VOLKSWAGON BUG!

I'm having

'Jamie' by Weezer

God so many

Most of SFA output.

Meet me at the harbour / Mince Showercap 2 / This is worse - Idlewild

Born Slippy - Underworld (for it was originally)

Every Arab Strap B-side ever, especially: Bullseye / Forest Hills / Trippy

Vent axial - Urusei Yatsura
