In the tradition of the movie "High Fidelity" What is your top break-up album?

Having recently succumbed to this fate I would have to say the album I keep coming back to is:

Iron & Wine - Our Endless Numbered Days. So fecking beautiful, yet sad and melancholy.
On first realising we were going our seperate ways, this was on as I walked for 5 miles not knowing what the feck I was doing

Icarus Line - Penance Soiree

as it sounds so pissed off most of the time.
"I dooooooooooooon't wanna faaall in looove....anymooore"

I don't really do melancholy, after a break-up I prefer to go out and get hammered, and worry about being emotional 6 months later.

Breaking Up

by the Research. Have fun along with your misery.

Hissing Fauna, Are you the Destroyer

Sadness you can dance too, plus it covers all your bases cos he gets back with his wife at the end.

any and all of

arab strap surely?

hissing fauna...

that is. NOT arab strap.

.

Hopesfall - The Satellite Years
Glassjaw - EYEWTKAS

Good to let the anger out.

Glassjaw - Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Silence

Three words:

YOUUU FUCCKKIIING WHOOOOORRREEEE!!!!

Got into Glassjaw v. recently

EYEWTKAS is an astonishing breakup album.

"and take my memories

of her with you pack your shit... and leave"

'Give Up'

This pretty much covers all the bases: from loved-up absurdity to blind optimism to despair and finally acceptance.

Blood On The Tracks

[/predictable]

(But really, its reputation it deserved)

Blood on the Tracks

Seamonsters - wedding present

or the mountain goats get lonely

i'd say

"ladies and gentlemen we are floating in space" by spiritualized

ladies and gentlemen

you are correct sir / madam, well done. but you beat me to it, for which i am slightly miffed.

ha ha

apologies,but it *is* amazing :)

Verve - Northern Soul

soundtracked a nasty break up for me. I took the line "another drink and I won't miss her" to be my mantra, thus ending up a whiskey sodden state for much of the time.
A not so classic time was being dumped on a Friday night just when (ahem) Shed Sevens She Left Me On Friday came out. Oh the hilarity.

rival schools

united by fate

The Open - Statues

Same subject every song, explored through about 30 different genres.

Funnily enough ...

Get Happy! by Elvis Costello. Was given to me as a prezzie by the girl in question. Played it constantly when we split up, especially the track "High Fidelity", which still gives me a weird feeling every time I hear it. "There's nothing that he can do for you" indeed.

Classic break-up albums

Blood on the Tracks by Dylan, Heartbreaker by Ryan Adams, Tunnel of Love by Springsteen, Rumours by Fleetwood Mac

Dilate - Ani DiFranco

and The Get Up Kids - Something to write home about

<clenches fist, bangs it hard on chest>
<slight flinch>

Beck - Sea Change

no question. the epitome of heartbreakingly beautiful.

i dont really have one

but i imagine Brand New would be good

'versus' by Mission Of Burma

soundtracked a really shitty break up for me a few years ago, 'Train' on that album specifically. I still cant listen to it without remembering drinking a bottle of neat southern comfort in my mates garden with everyone goin 'come on mate, pull through'. Horrible!!!

Surely depends on the kind of breakup

If you feel mostly empty and hollow then 'I see a darkness' by Bonnie Prince Billy.

If you are filled with rage and bile then 'Songs about Fucking' by Big Black.

If you've had your heart torn from you chest and handed to you still pumping your life's blood into your fist as you stare down the road at the tail-lights of the woman who in all probability was 'the one' driving away to be back with her husband, yet knowing that next week you'll have to work alongside her as colleagues then
'As the roots undo' by Circle Takes the Square'.

you're all wrong!

it is in fact The Bitter End by Right Away! Great Captain.
It's about a sailor in the 1600 who before leaving for a 3 year voyage catches his newlywed wife doing his brother proper porn-star styleee and his thoughts of it on his 3 year journey, his relationship with his captain.
It's party of a trilogy.
God I love Any Hll/Manchester Orchestra

for a sad one

tom mcrae (am i gonna get slated for this?) all maps welcome

or. norah jones?
