the 'new' automatic

I've seen the automatic a few times. Never thought they were bad, but never thought they were all that good either. Even saw them in Japan (where everyone is good down to the amazing vibe of touring there and best sound systems in the world), still very average.
Heard that they picked up the chap from 'YCNIM' and thought, might have to give 'em another go at TGE this year. YCNIM have always been amazing live and on record.
Thought Automatic were amazing! Real different vibe, much more happening musically on the new tunes and a depth they never had before. Well worth a look!

I could never get into them because of that annoying screamy cunt.

Now he's left i imagine they might be okay-ish.

He's Left!?

Oh noes. He was the only thing I did like about them. He had one of the best jobs in rock - to tunelessly howl whatever the singer just said. As far as jobs in a band goes, thats up there with the guy from Arcade Fire who spends the gigs throwing a drum up in the air and failing to catch it.

Semi-Automatic: Is this a JAG?!

Even though he was irritating as hell, that yappy guy was their USP.

Without him they're just another mid-tempo band, surely?

i'm pretty tempted

to go and see them purely based on the fact that they managed to recruit the YCNIM guy, never been a fan of them before. What role's Paul playing in the band then?

Any music

With Paul available yet?

I really didnt like them

they had one okay song, was it Raul? Dont remember... anywho I for some reason have got a feeling they could be much better 2nd time round.

They couldn't be

much worse.

its bad

they want to be seen as serious after releasing the worst album of the same song repeated too many times.
im not sure if the young girls that loved them the first time round will be all that into their new direction, or if anyone else really cares.

I always thought they were

A novelty band?

^^^

Hummm - not bad that Steve McQueen tune. To be fair they could only get better once Penny left and Paul joined.

Whether they'll be any good is another question.

The Automatic were in the year above me at school.

True story.

I might be somewhat biased towards liking them after having seen them back in the day playing Rage and Weezer covers in our school gym, but I think the first album is a lot more interesting than people gave it credit for - I don't think Monster was really a good representative of them (and it wasn't their fault that it got picked up and made huge). And was Penny really that annoying? There are plenty of well-liked bands with yelpy people playing synths.

Still, enough with the defense. It'll be interesting to see what they're like Mk.II.
