i suppose the social contract
of having an orderly society. Which in lost can be shown in an extreme circumstance involving family and different groups of people as perhaps was also strong during the french revolution. Also, the character being French can reflect this.

Crazy army-soldier man is there, as well as mysterious man who appeared in the last episode as well as some flashback from the 1950's, and a bunch of other ones. Mysterious.
