dream 'don't look backs'....

Who/what would your dream 'don't look back' concert be? I've been thinking about this recently, its pretty tough to think who would have an album that is AMAZING yet still cohesive enough to stand up to an entire show dedicated to it... I guess it needs to be very thematic.... 'daydream nation' and 'it takes a nation of millions to hold us back' epitomise this perfectly, so great don't look back choices there....

I'd love to see Sufjan Stevens play 'Illinois' all the way through, but thats a bit too recently really.... in ten years or so, if DLB is still going and Sufjan is still doing as well as he does now, thats a cert, I reckon.

A pretty obvious choice is 'in the aeroplane over the sea' by NMH, don't really need to talk about that one, but i reckon 'dusk at cubist castle' by Olivia Tremor Control would be an equal spectacle in full live glory.

Perhaps Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain by Pavement?

These all seem pretty obvious, but I am totally mind numbed from work,

OH WAIT

Super AE by Boredoms... YEAH!

both...

id explode i think

Vision Creation Newsun

supported by Super Roots 7 will always be the dream.

ps. i know I'm right

pitch4k sez so yeh?

they did the whole of VCN

when it came out. At least they did at the Royal Festival Hall when I saw them. I think it was a tour.

how about an elephant6 one

4-5 sets. olivia tremor control, neutral milk hotel, of montreal, etc.

definately 'illinois'...maybe 'agaetis byrjun'? 'playing with fire' by spacemen3 too

ah man

E6 one would be so freaking cool.....

there should be an ATP vs. E6

I

would feel so strongly about that, that I would buy a ticket and attend.

Seamonsters by the Wedding Present

I've just realised that the last six or seven posts I've made on here have all been about this record. I appear to have gone a little mad. Hmmm. Maybe I'm about to break up with my girlfriend, and I'm getting Gedge back in my life in preparation.

:(

haha

wondered how long till the smiths turned up.....

id love..

MBV- Loveless
Arcade Fire - Funeral
Sonic Youth - Dirty
Interpol -TOTBL
Sigur Ros - ()
Bjork - selma songs or vespertine
Mogwai - Happy sgons..
The Cure - Disintegration

to name a few

Broken Social Scene - You Forgot it in People

It's all I could think when I saw them play last week :(

they played SOOO little from that album

it was ridiculous.
i prefer self titled anyway :P

that's because it came out

six years ago, and there have been three albums since it.

^ this

i heard some guy when I left AC... 'erm, they didn't play anything off feels'.... get over it.... comments like this after gigs annoy me. Especially after AC were so blatantly amazing, as were BSS.

yeah i was gonna say this too.

Plus TOTBL, and how good would OK Computer be beginning to end?

the meadowlands by the wrens

or the blue album by weezer.
with matt sharp on bass.

when i saw the wrens

there was like 20 people and they played meadowlands in its entirety. <3

OMG

Jealous!

REM - Murmur (with Bill Berry obviously)

Bjork - Homogenic
Wire - Chairs Missing
Kate Bush - The Kick Inside

They would be awesome.

Isis - Oceanic

oh wait...

Tom Waits - Heartattack & Vine

The Wedding Present - Seamonsters
Teenage Fanclub - Songs From Northern Britain

Au Pairs

Sense & sensuality. Amazing record and band in their day. Would love to see them live...

underworld - second toughest might work too

I second The Au Pairs

So relevant today, one of those bands that were so ahead of their time... also would love Chairs Missing from Wire, or I suppose Entertainment from Gang of Four ... that would be nice... oooh and god Songdog doing the entirety of 'The Time Of Summer Lightning' would probably finish me off :-)

er i'd kill to see any of these

mclusky - Do Dallas
Dinosaur Jr. - You're Living All Over Me
QOTSA - Rated R
Pixies - Surfer Rosa

Dinosaur Jr

did YLAOM in the first series of DLB shows.

alas i hadn't heard of them then

i was 15 and listening to RATM almost exclusively

don't worry

i had heard of them, did like them, lived ten minutes from the venue, and still didn't go.

Source Tags and Codes - Trail of Dead

OK Computer
Soft Bulletin
Deloused in the Comatorium
()
Colour and the Shape

I liked that Red Sparowes did this with Soundless dawn (I know it was their only album to date, but they played it as the album pretty much)

De Loused

WORD..... this has to be done.

they did that

the first time i saw them, not as a Don't Look Back show obviously, they didn't have any other albums at that point though. And they played the Tremulant EP as an encore.

They always did big jams when I saw em on the deloused tour

like at Reading, when it was 30 min Cicatriz and 15 min Inertiatic (or whatever). It was good, but I'd just like to hear the album as the album played live. I have bootlegs, but IN THE FLESH.

69 Love Songs - MAGNETIC FIELDS

just to get value for money.

Liars - Drums Not Dead

Wipers - Is This Real?
Owls - Owls

And if we're talking sheer fantasy:

Gram Parsons - GP
The Gun Club - Fire Of Love

drums not dead....

....mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. yum.

They did this in 2001

I think it was 2001. It was a review of it that made me investigate the album. I think they did it over two consecutive nights, and kept messing up the introduction to 'Absolutely Cuckoo' so the entire thing had about twenty false starts. Awesome.

that would be ace.

Make for an amazing show

Lou Reed

Metal Machine Music

OH YEAH!

The Fall - Hex Enduction Hour

Probably never going to happen though... :(

I was thinking about a previous thread like this

t'other day.

Pearl Jam - Ten
In the aeroplane, obviously.
The Bends is an obvious choice I guess but meh.
Electro-Shock Blues...
Straight Outta Compton?
Michigan
For Whom The Toll Tells

is that last set

a Metallica/Two Gallants supergroup?

Haha

clever me...

Here's my two cents:

Devo - Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo
Seems very likely to be done at some point anyway

John Cale - Paris 1919
Bloc Party - Silent Alarm
Guillemots - Through The Windowpane

Wonderful Rainbow maybe?

Sao Paulo

would be a stunning end to an evening's entertainment.

Yes it would.

Do they play it live? I saw 'em like a year ago and can't remember.

Yes!

At pretty much every gig :-)
It will never be as good as the full orchestra version at Electric Proms 06 though...

Elliott Smith

is the first thing which comes to mind. Not sure which one though, probably Figure 8 if I had to choose.

This is hypothetically

of course.

as suggested by "dream"

I'll stop now.

897

The Byrds doing Younger Than Yesterday or Notorious Byrd Brothers. They need no Gene Clark or Gram Parsons, and the original drummer wasn't the best anyway, rest his soul.

Ryan Adams doing Rock n Roll :D or Love Is Hell or Whiskeytown doing Pneumonia.

Led Zep doing III.

Talking Heads (expanded stylee)

Remain in Light (or could cheat and do Stop Making Sense).
Guided by Voices - Alien Lanes with encore of Bee Thousand.
The National - Alligator
Minutemen - DNOTD
Les Savy Fav - Inches
Flaming Lips - The Soft Bulletin
Modest Mouse - The Lonesome Crowded West

American Football - American Football

...then have them tag that cheeky 3 track ep on the end.

Suicide - Suicide

Sunn O))) - Black One
Lightning Bolt - Wonderful Rainbow or the First One
Dr Octagon - Dr Octagonolygist
Bors/Merzbow - Sun Baked Snow Cave (i need to listen to this more though)

...

Ol' Dirty Bastard - Nigga Please

I'd say this one is pretty unlikely...

Good call on the others though, especially Suicide!

What about Weekend At Bernies

Never say never

Top 3 atm.

Viktor Vaughan/MF DOOM- Vaudeville Villain
Joanna Newsom- Ys
Neutral Milk Hotel-In The Aeroplane Over The Sea

ooh, can i have

SCOTT WALKER - TILT
NEIL YOUNG - ON THE BEACH
TERRY RILEY - A RAINBOW IN CURVED AIR
BURNING STAR CORE - BLOOD LIGHTNING
and
STEVE REICH - MUSIC FOR 18 MUSICIANS

thanxbye

...

I thought 18 Musicians gets performed quite a bit? I saw a show advertised earlier in the year down in London.

yeah...

it was performed earlier in the year at the rfh but conducted by thomas ades i belive.
but is it ok with you if i still list it?

STEVE REICH - MUSIC FOR 18 MUSICIANS conducted by steve reich

and while he's there he can do DRUMMING aswell

thanx

Riley

did Rainbow in Curved Air last year (or maybe the year before) in Glasgow. I have a bootleg somewhere. T'was ok.

Public Image - Metal Box

Adam and the Ants - Dirk Wears White Sox
Pixies - Doolittle...infact any pixies album would be fine.

How about

Daniel Johnston - Hi, How Are You?
and
Jens Lekman - Oh, You're So Silent Jens.

The Best

of The Beatles

also

Souvlaki

Life Without Buildings - Any Other City

would make my decade.

Coachwhips - Bangers Vs Fuckers
Les Georges Leningrad - Black Eskimo
Yoko Ono - Yoko Ono Plastic Ono Band
Melt Banana - Charlie
Napalm Death - Scum (With Nic Bullen and Justin Broadrick)
Boredoms - Soul Discharge

LWB would be amazing....

but dunno if it would be a don't look back-er.... i think I'd rather they just reformed and wrote new stuff!!!

this....

rapeman - 2 nuns
big black - songs about...
neil young - harvest
van morrison - astral weeks
sonic youth - sister

____

Scott Walker - The Drift
Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
Smart Went Crazy - Con art
Built To Spill - Keep It Like A Secret
Weakerthans - Reconstruction Site
Fugazi - The Argument

Dream

Beatles - Abbey Road

Slightly more realistic
Arab Strap - Philophobia
GSYBE - Levez

Actually slightly possible
Sufjan Stevens - Illinoise
Pulp - This is hardcore or Intro
Postal Service - Give Up

I'd crawl over broken glass

using only my eyelids to see Orbital do the Brown Album from start to bangin' finish.

Though I'd also love to hear Kraftwerk do just about any of their albums. Or Pavement doing Slanted and Enchanted...

Joe - www.anewbandaday.com

^^

feels like the Pavement thing is going to happen though

Mansun - Six

please

Liz Phair is doing Exile

which would be fucking amazing...but SF...so close to LA yet so far. Meh.

bright eyes

fevahs and mirrahs

69 love songs!

would be good

good thread

first thoughts -
Thursday - Full collapse
Death cab - Transatlanticism
Braid - Frame & Canvas

but i can imagine american football, interpol and sigur ros all being good

i'd also add
cursive (domestica, followed by burst and bloom), Fugazi (Repeater), Jonquil (Lions), and some post-rock, do make say think perhaps?

So many to choose from

I'll go with:

Super Furry Animals - Guerilla
Radiohead - The Bends
New Order - Power, Corruption and Lies
