never go to the top end of the high street after dark, especially at the weekend.
The open mic nights and stuff at Yhe Horns pub can be fun occasionally.
Monday student nights out = "the Moon"(wetherspoons) - reflex(80s bar) - another bar of choice - Destiny(bog standard club)/Area(acceptable indie room run by a local cunt). NB 21 is the max age for student night enjoyment (unless you are said cunt who likes the younger girls).
Watford Junction - Euston = 20 mins
West Watford = ethnic minority area with shitty Westfield School leading to Vicarage Road (football ground home of Watford FC, Elton John is sometime owner, avoid like plague on game days as loadsa traffic and hooligans) next door to Watford General - officially one of worst Hospitals in the country but good diabetic unit.
North Watford/Garston = Cinema/bowling etc complex plus "the dome" roundabout with massive Asda.
Nice bits = Cassiobury Park and surrounding estate (also where Watford Met Tube station is located).
Nasty bits = South Oxhey - big council estate and National Front breeding ground.
Best thing about Watford - it's next to Rickmansworth!!
it's only 20 mins train journey, so yes of course you can, and the last train back to Watford is about 12.30pm. Makes gigs and drinking until pub closing time possible.
Then myself and my manager will make a decision as to my future - I'm on trial as his assistant. If I get the job I will be groomed to manage a new depot opening in Croydon (I work in cash and carry land) in 2 years time, so I'll potentially be in or around London FOREVA!
Umm, but if you get the same opportunities elsewhere to get to that level, you might want to bear in mind that Croydon is a shithole, (no, not exactly fair, it's just NOTHINGLAND), and not particularly easy to get to either. You'll soon get fed up working there.
I'd probably live somewhere a little more interesting and drive to work. From what I've heard Croydon is not where I want to live even if I have to work there.
But it is pretty easy to get to. All night trains from both King's X and Victoria. 2 night buses from central London. Granted some places are easier to get to but the transport is much better than Bromley or something.
there's sometimes a half 1 train as well. Tube-wise the last ones 00.23. If you're ever really stuck wondering round London til first train is an option i've tried many a time.
for any sporting needs. Otherwise what ht27 says. Night life is an absolute travesty in Watford. Even the Horns (mentioned above and otherwise reasonable) has issues (namely the moment when you look around and realise that you and your mates are the youngest people in there by about 15-20 years.
as long as you don't mind cheesy club nights. The night life's not as bad as everyone's making out (it'll be better when Destiny reopens as the newest Oceana) but yeah, you're probably better off just getting on the train to London for a big night out and getting an illegal cab back (a six seater will work out about a tenner each).
The Harlequin shopping centre's got most things you need (apart from a decent specialist music store but how many of those still exist?).
It's got a good football and rugby team (considering how big the town is - Watford FC and Saracens respectively) that both play out of Vicarage Road. Where abouts are you going to be living? AVOID West Watford.
1. Elton John
2. The gap.
Sorry, I'm out.
Watford gap is quite a way from watford town
pro: big shopping centre
con: no nightlife to speak of
Shopping is rubbish
Drinking is ace.
How realistic is it to go out in London and then get back to Watford of an evening?
pretty unrealistic
unless you wanna get the train back at about half 12. i think that's the last one.
or you can wait until half 5 in the morning.
Very.
That's pretty much all it has going for it. Euston -> Watford 19 minutes.
Shopping Centre's shit
No nightlife?
Area? Destiny?!
is Area the 'classy' one?
with the waterfall urinal?
I don't know
I've never been to either. Heard nothing but good things though.
i've never been to Area
but Destiny, oh what a place.
and obviously it has a walkabout, as does everywhere :D
but walkabout is pretty much like hell just with cheap drinks though
and.......
everywhere else in Watford is hell with expensive drinks.
What about Moons?
Cheappp
You have been fooled Zapsta
Surely the ridiculously large amount of people that abandon Watford for Bristol should hint at the fact there's not much to hang around for.
*shudder*
Destiny's being turned into an Oceana
so I suppose that's a plus... of sorts.
Cant often be mistaken by a guy shouting 'What Ford?!?!?!?'
i have a giant anus
oop
wrong thread please.
I live in watford!
Nothing jumps out at me.
No guy screamin 'WHAT FORD?!?!??!!'?
Well it can't often be mistaken for that
:( don't think I have ever felt more dissapointed in all my life

I basically live in Watford

Watford Junction - Euston = 20 mins
some more
West Watford = ethnic minority area with shitty Westfield School leading to Vicarage Road (football ground home of Watford FC, Elton John is sometime owner, avoid like plague on game days as loadsa traffic and hooligans) next door to Watford General - officially one of worst Hospitals in the country but good diabetic unit.

Two objections
Watford fans aren't too bad, nice family club if you ask me.
And Rickmansworth is yaaaaaaaaaawn
true
and also true but its where I live so I'm gonna stick up for it :P
People probably shouldnt listen to my opinions if they want realistic answers tbh
not to mention expensive
the whole area is full of oldies that love m&s...
Watford FC =
great! Don't avoid on match days, buy a ticket and watch :)
Also, the music scene is utter tripe. I want to change this some day.
I live in Rickmansworth too
WOW!!! Small world, eh?
The Flag
next to Watford Junction puts on gigs sometimes
You'll be better off in Romford
And that's saying something...............................................namely that you'll be better off in Romford.
So in other words, I'm so close to London I could touch it..
...but I don't get to taste it?
Well
it's only 20 mins train journey, so yes of course you can, and the last train back to Watford is about 12.30pm. Makes gigs and drinking until pub closing time possible.
How long are you there for?
I'm down on a week-by-week basis at first
Looking realistically about a month.
Then myself and my manager will make a decision as to my future - I'm on trial as his assistant. If I get the job I will be groomed to manage a new depot opening in Croydon (I work in cash and carry land) in 2 years time, so I'll potentially be in or around London FOREVA!
Excellent.

I will bear that in mind
There are opportunities all over the country.
I'd probably live somewhere a little more interesting and drive to work. From what I've heard Croydon is not where I want to live even if I have to work there.

there could be loadsa chavs focused in one area that you dont regularly visit
There will be significantly less chavs in Croydon once I move there
I have learned well from Call of Duty 4.
Croydon is a shithole
But it is pretty easy to get to. All night trains from both King's X and Victoria. 2 night buses from central London. Granted some places are easier to get to but the transport is much better than Bromley or something.
from memory
there's sometimes a half 1 train as well. Tube-wise the last ones 00.23. If you're ever really stuck wondering round London til first train is an option i've tried many a time.
I have pulled that one off in Birmingham
on many an occasion. It's a much underrated option as last train is full of nobs and first train is usually empty.
Something
about pulling one off in Birmingham.
The Amber Rooms
The Southern Cross
otherwise avoid everywhere.
The Wellington Arms
for any sporting needs. Otherwise what ht27 says. Night life is an absolute travesty in Watford. Even the Horns (mentioned above and otherwise reasonable) has issues (namely the moment when you look around and realise that you and your mates are the youngest people in there by about 15-20 years.
whatever
Bodega beats the arse off the amber rooms. You knows it.
It's great
as long as you don't mind cheesy club nights.
