My favourite is the 'powering down' sound effect on Star wars (a new hope). It is emitted when Ben Kenobi pulls a lever down on a big column in the Deathstar.
It sort of sounds like a high to low filter sweep thrumming - if you aren't familiar with it.

a lot of the sound effects was used in indiana jones too.
you know in return of the jedi when in the jabba the hut bit when they've all falling into the big pit with tentacles? when they fall in, they go, "hooowaa".
well that sound effect is used whenever someone falls off something in indiana jones. they even used it in the new one.

and those weird little people in cloaks and red eyes that nick C3PO and put him in that giant tank thing for repairs. AND all the droids in there too.
In fact, I love the general sound of Star Wars. It's brilliant. When they fall into the "garbage" compressor with that weird snake thing, all of that bit is so familiar sound wise, it reminds me of when it was FIRST on tv in about 1984.
