Posted: 06 Jun '08, 09:33
Official news in: I Was A Cub Scout have decided to call it a day in their current guise.
Late last night, vocalist and keyboard player Todd Marriott sent the following bulletin via MySpace:
Here it goes
Tonight we have decided that I was a cub scout has and must now come to a close.
We have had countless problems over the past year or so and with yet more occuring, we feel it best to end on what would seem like a decent note.
We will be honouring all of our uk shows of which we have confirmed. with the I tunes festival at koko with death cab for cutie on july 14th being our last.
We will speak more of it all soon, but for now we must tour.
It is a very sad day for us
Thankyou
todd x
The band's management today said this:
"We're as sad and gutted as the band themselves for this to be announced, but it is indeed true. Todd and Will are going to finish their UK shows on a high before bowing out as IWACS. The two will be starting on various new projects which hopefully will come to fruition before long. It's been a pleasure to work with the band and we'll be working with Todd and Will for time to come. We're sorry to the fans, but thankful for all those who bought the records and attended the shows. It's truly been great fun. Peace out."
IWACS's remaining UK tour dates are as follows:
June
6 Sheffield Plug
7 Nottingham Rescue Rooms
8 Manchester Academy 3
9 LeedsCockpit
10 Brighton Barfly
11 Portsmouth Wedgewood Rooms
21 Exeter Phoenix Auditorium
22 Exeter Marquee (under 20s only)

Oh, how I hope this is true
-
A little harsh
They may not be great or anything but they were cute and they clearly meant well. Ho hum.
-
that's not very nice.
-
aw!
I was a cub scout are lovely, you big meanie
-
In reply to everyone above
they're to irritating to be nice. They'vr gone from being a nice happy group to just dead annoying.
-
Wait.
This is the 'She's so Lovely' band, isn't it?
-
Epic Fail
-
Oh, that's Scouting for Girls, isn't it?
damn bands with similar names.
-
yeah, wrong band
now if they had split up, i'd understand all the hate.
-
if only....
-
-
hahahahhahahah!
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
Been a bit rubbish recently
Reuben, Cutting Pink With Knives, Help She Cant Swim, Shut Your Eyes And Youll Burst Into Flames and now these fine folks :( Let alone bands that split earlier this year like Meet Me In St Louis
-
I know,
what a depressing list. :(
-
...and Charlottefield.
:-(
-
-
I don't like them
...and I haven't confused them with Scouting For Girls. But then again, I have that original theory that if you don't like something, don't listen to them so this news doesn't really bother me.
Ok, I'm wasting my time now.
-
I was told just before this last tour that they were going to call it quits
-
/\
-
why the hell wasn't i informed?
your man friend knows i like them.
-
-
My band played four or five dates with these guys supporting the Wombats last month....
...Great, great band and really down to earth funny chaps to be around.
Totally didn't see this coming. Bit saddenned by it to be honest, cause i reckon they had that 'something' which eventually turns good bands into great bands. For those people who thought they were wank must remember that they were only 16 when they started writing this stuff. They're only 18 now. Imagine what they'd be doing given a couple of years...
Todd did mention that he was interested in doing a side-project band at some point which was going to be really doomy and sludgey. Could be worth keeping an eye on.
-
i feel responsible
i deleted their album off my mp3 player on Monday. coincidence? hmm.
-
You should delete some more and see what happens!
!
-
try deleting scouting for girls too...
-
-
-
Cock it.
I really genuinely love this band. Shame. I knew Todd was doing solo stuff (MySpace somewhere) but i thought IWACS had genuine promise to go be huge. Sigh.
-
^ same
I loved these guys, but I kinda saw this coming, what with all the blogs about wanting to expand the band and William starting another band and things. I really hope they carry on in some other form cos for two guys that are so young they've got a hell of a lot of potential.
-
i never got into the album
live they were great, but, i don't understand quite why you rave about the album. i can see what you mean about their future mind..
-
-
oh
well
-
goody
thank goodness, they seem to have wormed their way onto a load of bills that have almost ruined my night with their musical bile and i wont be missing them
-
really really big shame!
'I want you to know..' is a really brilliant album. And the singles were so so awesome when they were coming out.
Awesomely nice guys, i just can't wait to hear their new projects!
-
musical bile?
Are you kidding?
-
-
-
shame
they were quite good and I really enjoyed seeing them live, but they're young and will no doubt have other, better projects in the future. Pink Squares still stands out as an incredible song, though.
-
'Peace out.'
Fuck off.
-
nooo
and reuben too? what's going on today. at least i caught both of them live.
-
YAY!
does this mean we don't have to hear about this poor-man's Postal Service any more?
sweet!
Todd was a moody diva anyway. -
Single?
Is this still getting released on cassette tape anyone know?
-
I'm definitely going to buy it now.
-
-
it might have
been 2 man band syndrome,
but i thought they were dull in numerous ways when i saw them live.
-
Can't see them.....
....playing the rest of their dates. Not if tonight at the Freebutt was anything to go by.
I wasn't mad about the album but I do like them live, however tonight was the most uncomfortable gig I think i've ever been to.
