...at first it's a little unrewarding: fairly crappy production, a sparsity of accessible songs and some very questioinable vocals
BUT
with time it'll get under your skin: best listened to late, sat close to the speakers...it posesses a very distinct, intimate atmosphere - very measured and reflective.
However, I would recommend Enabler's 'Output Negative Space' as a close musical cousin that's more refined and accessible. Get Spiderland though, but be prepared to go 'hmmmm' for awhile
1) do you like fantastic, eye wateringly beautiful music?
2) do you have a psychological condition that would make you take your own life if you heard a final track with ended with a semi-human wail of anguish?
If you answered 1) yes and 2) no then go ahead - buy it.
it in full in Amsterdam earlier in the year (I think?) and it was excellent - the songs seemed meatier live and the quiet bits weren't drowned out by people talking, other than in Washer when some fucking cockney bird wouldn't shut her goddamn pie hole.
but then there are a lot of stories about the recording of the album, like all the band going nuts at various points, god knows how much of it is true.
I can now just about manage to listen to it all the way through. It's a bit like Nevermind to me:) Or Doolittle. Know what I mean?
After seeing the reformation gigs I've kind of put them to bed - in my mind..
But if you've never heard it. Buy it immediatly!!!!!
Cortez The Killer is a Neil Young cover off their 1989 live bootleg album.
I suggest being a Slint fan you should go on to check Rodan, Tortoise, For Carnation, Squirrel Bait...
I have an awesome bootleg of Kings Approach...i wonder if they'll get around to making this new album.

it's very good
takes time to get into, but well worth it. The sudden shouting at the end of Good Morning Captain is one of my favourite album endings.

Fucking boss overall though
wasn't he sick doing it
or something?
Supposedly
but then there are a lot of stories about the recording of the album, like all the band going nuts at various points, god knows how much of it is true.

I still reckon anyone who likes this
should definitely be checking Thee More Shallows out too. Ok, slightly different, but if you cut this band in half, they would bleed that record.
TMS are ace, yah!
Will check em out.
Thee More Shallows are freaking amazing
I'm going to listen to The Book of Bad Breaks on my way home now, thanks.
Funny
That's the weakest of the 3 LPs for me. Check 'A History of Sport Fishing', then we'll talk.... ;)
