Hey,
I've spent the last week getting my head around these and they seem quite a good way of keeping up with your favourite bands/things but I can't help finding them a bit of a no-man's land, a little clunky (for facebook, anyway) and not many people have music playing on them.
What do you all think? Is MySpace, still very much safe?
Sean
p.s. we have a Drowned in Sound page here: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/pages/Drowned-in-Sound/19343183144?ref=nf
whoops link didn't work
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Drowned-in-Sound/19343183144
and i also meant to ask what pages are people fans of? i've added bands i could think of like Panda Bear and Panic, as well as some mags, promoters and venues but be good to get a bit of a guide to what other stuff people have found...
they're really useful and not as clunky as myspace
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Mumford-and-Sons
just found this
I think for things like music
Myspace is safe - everyone I know just uses Facebook for personal stuff; keeping in touch with friends, sharing photos of each other.
I like some of the groups
for music stuff. you get updates and all that on what they are up to. But I dont think its very good for discorving new music, myspace is better for quick and easy find and play something.
KeToLoCo face book group is one of my fav they put up loadsa minimal mixes from the club nights and all sorts.
facebook
seems to be taking over but until they add a music player to bands 'pages' then it wont take over myspace for music lovers I dont think
but there is
a music player for bands 'pages' - you have to upload a picture of your ID and that takes about 2 days to confirm but other than that it's quite easy.
I prefer
myspace for music but i fear i might be alone in this opinion very soon.
I only use Myspace for music.
I don't use facebook at all, because I actually talk to my friends.
No , MySpace for music
or Last.FM. I don't look through Facebook for it.
I think myspace has a more secure future then Facebook
as it seems to have the whole music premise down to a tee, where as another social network could easily come along and pull one over on facebook but unlike myspace when it was victim to this it hasn't got something like the bands to pull it threw.
agreed
though I find Myspace deeply unpleasant to use [every other link leads me to an error page, and it frequently misdirects you - trying to add someone recently, when I click 'add' it just takes me back to my home page], facebook really can't compete on the music front right now.
I wish they bloody would though.
Wrong Forum, Buster!
If Obama wins the election, Facebook will become law and Tom will be banished to Elba.
eh?
it's about music stuff on the web...
myspace
is much better in my humble opinion.......
On facebook you just tend to annoy all your friends with announcements, but myspace gets any old random person from over the world..........
I despise Facebook
http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2008/jan/14/facebook
There isn't any music on ours because they asked for a copy of my passport!!
Some crap like that. Have they stopped that rule? It was some bollocks about how they had to be sure I was actually the person who had legal right to the band's songs.
On top of that, videos on there are badly done:
- They removed tagging
- They are only visible to viewers of the page who have a Facebook account (why?)
- They can't be shared with events and such, even if the band's hosting the event
oh yeah
does it still ask for that? i guess it makes some kind of sense...
Well maybe it doesn't ask anymore
but it did at the start so I never got round to checking again.
Hey
No, they're rubbish. My bands myspace gets quite a lot of plays a day but the facebook gets about 3 a day. Nobody uses it.
It's awkward to view.
There's no direct URL.
The player is not immediatelly obvious.
You have to be registered and logged into facebook to use it.
I don't think myspace has much to worry about yet.
That said... I only ever use myspace to have a quick listen to a band or put shows on my own bands page. I never use it personally because it's turd.
How about photography?
to be honest i update my flickr more but still...

MySpace >>>>>>> Facebook
For all things, especially music. Facebook is for the vainest people, and fucking retards who want to add 600 applications, thinking that it's cool.
