mine started doing this after about a year and after the applestore told me it was unfixable i accidentally knocked it off a table onto a floor which jolted it back into action and i've used the same technique for the last two years to make it keep working

i finally bought a brand new one last week though :D

if you press the middle button and the top bit of the scroll wheel together for about 6 seconds it resets the ipod and then it should work again.

oh you've already fixed it by dropping it. good to hear. at least you've got a solution for the next time that doesn't involve whacking it.

i wish mine did that
