Who actually cares about this band anymore?
They're not very current and surely they're reunion isn't a big enough deal to really justify their place on the bill tonight?

has ever been a festival for a upfront with the times fesival goer has it so they might go down a storm.
I have never cared for them myself let alone now.
they're not particularly
interesting or have the same impact that they used to, but i bet you know most of their songs, as will the crowd. so i think it makes sense.

Wish i could say the same about J-Zee.
Difference is the Verve have originality and longevity.The songs still sound as great now as they did in 90's.Are there many band's of today's current crop that you will be say that about in 15 years ?

Although a bit hit and miss. Some of the songs off Urban Hymns have bored me to death, ie Sonnet.

but i must be one of the few people on this board that like U2. i'm curious to hear what the rest of the album is like. Urban Hymns had some great songs on but a few weak songs too.

it's just unfortunate that they're obliged to play 'History' and the rubbish songs of Urban Hymns. I'm fairly sure they'd love to play the good songs off A Storm In Heaven and A Northern Soul but the lacklusture reaction from the crowd during 'Life's An Ocean' probably means they will be playing 'The Drugs Don't Work' endlessly forevermore. :(
Still, it wasn't bad by any means. I just wish it was 1994 and they were playing 15 minute versions of 'Gravity Grave'. <3 <3 <3

The thought of the culmination of a festival experience being a singalong of 'The Drugs Dont Work' or one of their other bland songs, is just down right depressing.
They're such a weak headliner.

I would not have had them headlining either but I got the old shiver down me spine when Bittersweet Symphony came on. They are definitely a better bet for headlining than any of the current indie crop. I think Eavis has done all right with his headliners all things considering.
What was that Vampire Weekend thing when they asked all the crowd to make triangles with their hands? Was that Climie Fisher's daughter singing in the studio with Mark Ratciffe? She was ace. Why don't they just sack Phil Jupitus?
Lastly, I'm very jealous of everyone who
went to Glastonbury, all in all amongst the dross they had loads of great stuff this year as ever.

of their back catalogue. Don't judge them on that song, maaaaaaan.

Not so bad, at least they acknowledged 'A Northern Soul', and those are pretty much the strongest songs from 'Urban Hymns' (it's always a mystery to me why they released 'Sonnet' as a single and not 'Space & Time' - 'Sonnet' is horrid, 'Space & Time' is ace).
No 'Gravity Grave', though, which is a shame.
I make no apology for loving The Verve.

But I've no real expectations of it so I can't be disappointed. Anyway, they've already changed my life once so I can't begrudge them a shoddy album or two.
