quite like going outside to smoke anyway.
No smoking in clubs is shit cos i'm hammered by then.
train stations are the real bummer, as i was always quite considerate anyway and went right down the end of the platform, so i didn't blow smoke in anyone's face.
No effect on social life.
its unhealthy for the people who work there, and for the punters who don't smoke, and you can argue they shouldn't have to be subjected to someone elses choice to smoke
i'd argue that anyway
It's a fair enough rule, I'm glad the anti-smoke lobby hasn't got onto an anti standing outside the pub/office/train station smoking campaign yet, although I fear it will.
only all the twats bunch together outside instead of being scattered around. I'm glad that people who work in pubs might not unwillingly get cancer. Also, as a former smoker i'm happy that the temptation to have a smoke with a drink's taken away. The only thing that slightly annoys me is that pub & bar owners are given no compensation for their obvious loss of earnings. People are losing their livings and the government don't seem to be doing that much about it. Saying that, i can't think of one particular place that seems any emptier now than a year ago, but i try to avoid the type of places that might be full of drunken whingy smokers. Overall though, yeah, definitely a good move. Stop idiots drinking too much and city centres might be doable again.
I enjoy going outside to smoke.
I probably smoke more.
It's had little-to-no effect on my social life, although I have spoken to a lot more people outisde pubs through cigarette curcumstance, which is nice. I like speaking to random members of the public.
at a gig the other week.
Other than that, people seem to just congregate outside pubs / smoke more to get that "last quick one" in.
I've also noticed a rise in people poncing cigarettes AND non-smoking friends asking me for cigarettes.
cause I couldn't afford it/be bothered to stand outside when out. I've had one cigarette since then, which I accidentally smoked illegally and only got half way through because it tasted disgusting.
I've probably been to pubs/clubs/venues 15-odd times this year and only once did I notice the ban. The Breeders at Birmingham Academy. Absolutely stank of BO. I was begging for some smoke to waft into my nose.
and the scene where they're in a pub and there's shots of all the different conversations in the bar, every one in different languages, and they're all smoking made me sad. it seemed much more homely/comfortable.
saying that, outside of the celluloid world, i don't mind the ban in pubs so much. as almost everyone's said, it's nice meeting people etc.
the issue i still have with it is clubs, especially ones where going out means you have to join a massive queue to get back in, or can't get back in at all - and this applies to gig venues like brixton academy too. a room full of stinking people where you're wasted but can't smoke is not my idea of a fun night.
on the plus side, this does mean i've pretty much stopped going to most clubs (there are a couple of exceptions) and rediscovered live music again.
i also think this:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7481209.stm is going way too far. imagine not only being hospitalised against your will but forced to quit smoking. sucks.
-it seems almost impossible to imagine smoking inside now, I can't even imagine myself getting totally wasted and sparking up.
It does make the streets busier than the pubs sometimes though
pubs smell much better.

No effect on social life.
one year on
and I've started smoking.
This has benefited my social life
....
You need to get on Sky News and prove the cunts wrong.
who do you think i am?
Colin Roberts?!
i like it
i have "talked to" alot more people than i probably would have.
it makes me feel less sick inside.
stale smoke = ewww. and also no fagburnt clothing (Y)
I think I smoke more now
which is stupid.
Same
.
but at least we look cool eh?
EH?!
That is the one thing I miss.
Smoking looked fuckin' cool.
I'm pretty surprised I made it, but I haven't touched a cigarette in exactly 365 days.
good on ya
I smoked my last one on saturday, but I've had several more since then
Yeah
and they will have found a cure for all diseases one day anyway.
i dont smoke anymore
but not because of the ban.
although the ban was annoying...except a good way to meat people
I don't really smoke, so it hasn't affected me.
In principle though, I think it's a stupid law.
what
is stupid about it?
By 'I think it's a stupid law.'
I meant I would rather it hadn't been enforced.
aye
but in order to stop people smokin in the pub you need to bring in legislation, they probably wouldnt stop of their own accord
Why did we need people to stop smoking in pubs?
cus
its unhealthy for the people who work there, and for the punters who don't smoke, and you can argue they shouldn't have to be subjected to someone elses choice to smoke
i'd argue that anyway
because smoking is fucking stupid
i don't need to die because you want a fag thxz.
stop personalising the debate
you were going to die because lot's of people wanted a cigarette.
maybe this means lots of people wanted you to die?
I gave up
partly cos I knew it was coming in. I stopped about a month before the ban.
It irritated me in winter that my friends kept making me stand in the cold watching them smoke. Grrr
I gave up in February.
When the ban first came in I did start smoking more than usual. If I went out for a smoke I'd get chatting and stay outside for another.
Pubs are much better now.
I bet most smokers would admit it as well.
I don't think many except pub landlords mind.
It's a fair enough rule, I'm glad the anti-smoke lobby hasn't got onto an anti standing outside the pub/office/train station smoking campaign yet, although I fear it will.
i find them exactly the same...

i can go for a couple of drinks
without having to necessarily put my t-shirt and trousers in the wash straight after
this is good by me
i generally think it's better now
I approve of the law.
I enjoy going outside to smoke.

It hasn't really had an effect on me
as a non-smoker, but it is nice for clothes to not smell of smoke after a night out.
There's certain pubs I'll avoid because they smell of plague.
I love it.a
I love going to pubs/clubs and not coming home absolutely stinking.
I love being given back the choice over whether to inhale cigarette smoke or not.
I love eating in a restaurant without the stench of someones fag wafting over my food.
I can't believe we put up with smoky pubs/clubs for so long.
I quit yesterday
going ok so far......
totally........ :s
I noticed some really pooey smelling people
at a gig the other week.
Other than that, people seem to just congregate outside pubs / smoke more to get that "last quick one" in.
I've also noticed a rise in people poncing cigarettes AND non-smoking friends asking me for cigarettes.
Yeah. It's not great.
*But I wouldn't change it
I gave up in August
cause I couldn't afford it/be bothered to stand outside when out. I've had one cigarette since then, which I accidentally smoked illegally and only got half way through because it tasted disgusting.

smoking is for gays, tbh.
if he's gay I want in!

It's
not a big deal except when people remain outside at gigs and clubs, plus the stench of stinking armpits/feet/balls/vagges is revolting.
I drink outside pubs now
due to Mrs Catstro being a smoker. This is nice in summer, wasn't very awesome in winter...
I think it's a good thing overall
-it seems almost impossible to imagine smoking inside now, I can't even imagine myself getting totally wasted and sparking up.
It does make the streets busier than the pubs sometimes though
illegal drinking dens are so much more fun now
long live hanway street!
i started the day of the ban
so i don't really know what it was like before, but i enjoy smoking outside, and have no intention of quitting just yet.
I got given a massive cuban cigar
the other day at work. Where on earth am I going to smoke that?
All the cool people go outside now every 20 minutes.
I still drink.
