Drowned in Sound

So I finished my degree, moved home two days ago and if I don't move out again soon I'll be on the news within a week.

I meant to find a place back in Fallowfield at the end of summer, but it can't wait - my question is, because it's likely I'd be living with students and I am now not one, how does council tax work? As far as I know it's based on the property, so would I have to pay for the whole thing due to the students' exemption? How much do other manc peeps pay?

It's fairly essential because I want a year not thinking about education or a career, so will be working something dead end and can see it being tight.

Ta to anyone with any insight.

  • If it's a mix of students and non-students....

...you'll get a discount from the full amount. The council tax is on the "household" though - so everyone registered as living in the house will be liable. Whether or not the students will be happy paying a contribution to a bill that they could be exempt from if they replaced you with non-students would depend on the people involved. I guess.

    • Hmmm

well, it would be strangers so there'd be no way they would opt to pay some of it...URGH. Haha, I assume the discount isn't a 75% one?!

  • I moved home a year and a bit ago and felt the same

If you stick it out for a year then you'll find your sense of self esteem has been eroded to the point that you don't care any more.

    Chin up!
