I know not everyone likes these threads but tough!
They are headlining a festival I'm going to next weekend (replacing Reuben). Not sure if they are my sort of band but I'll give them a try. Where to start...

Matchbox 20?
horse of the dog
but royal society is better
I was in
a Dickens themed pub in Reading the t'other day and someone put 'Mr Mental' on. It was odd.
"horse of the dog"
was my favourite album in the world when it came out! it still sounds alright, actually. they should have given up afterwards though. i saw them about a year ago and it was awful.
^ lol
that doesn't fill me with promise. I'll give that album a try. If I don't like them they clash with Beans on Toast who is quite funny.
He's right.
Saw them a few years back and they were amazing - a year ago awful. It was at Scala and painfully loud - at least you will be outside.
Horse of the Dog is great though. Fish Fingers and Team Meat - oh yeah!
^ ha
what is that song about? are they the original bloodhound gang?!
That scala gig
Must now be infamous for it's awfulness. I would reassure the OP that I saw them since, and they were OK, although obviously not as good as they once were.
Definitely have a listen to Horse of the Dog, also get a few tracks off the Royal Society. I Rejection is my personal favourite track. If you can find an early b-side of theirs called Alex, or their one good new track 'You think you're a doctor', get those too.
yeh, I wouldn't really bother much with Royal Society except a select few
try and get Ice Cream too
they were v good at the underworld. scala was pretty horrific
i saw them back in November
and they were awesome, strange.
As good as the albums are and as good as they WERE live
they are such a state and mess now, financial and other things, I don't think they will last much longer.
You're from Brighton, aren't you?
The financial bit doesn't suprise me; I don't see how they could seriously still be surviving without proper jobs.
I know the bassist, Sym
hes always drunk, asking for coke and I believe has recently broken up with my friends sister.
They lost all their money touring with SOAD
SOAD should have been
such a good tour for them to do. But apparently the SOAD fans didn't like them? Shame.
The thing about Sym upsets me, he's been so lovely to me every time I've met him, but he's obviously not holding it together at all. And yeah, I have seen him basically beg someone for coke that didn't even belong to them.
This is depressing.

I think we should all keep peoples private lives PRIVATE.
Horse of The Dog
is one of the best 'rock' records ever made, the second one is pretty good too, and they can be hit and miss live but when they're good they are amazing live. Go. Beans on Toast is fucking gashwank.
I didn't buy the last ep.
or download it. I might do one day. I used to see them out n about in Brighton the way I now see the horrors in shoreditch. Only horse of the dog (and the gig I saw at the zodiac) were actually infinitely better than anything the horrors will ever do, but then royal society was probably slightly worse than anything the horrors will ever do and the 2 (I think 2 anyway) gigs I've seen since the guitarist (Andy? I never actually spoke to these people/learnt which one was which/anything) left were a pale pale imitation of what they were.
Uninterestingly I once literally gave Guy McKnight a kick up the arse in t'up pav tav, after they posted some truly lacklustre demos on myspace. Their lack of significant improvement since is, I presume either down to my week kicking, or the possibility that being kicked by a skinny drunk idiot doesn't necessarily result in improved artistic output.
let's not bring the horrors into this
i love the horrors
and the royal society is a great album
the horrors are just a pretty eighties matchbox for the new generation of kids though arent they?
yeah more or less
but they are actually not at all bad really.
horse the dog
just listened to this for the first time in quite a while. excellent album. go see them live, its worth taking the chance that they might be shit, the payoff if they are good i imagine being brilliant.
b-sides
Listen to some b-sides if you get the chance, like someone said. The b-sides have a life of their own and are almost better than the a-sides for sheer brilliance. I love these guys. The mess is what makes them, sadly-ish.
YOU'RE FEELIN' YOUR WAY THROUGH THE DARK
BUT YOU CAN'T GET OUT!
