1. K, Rip It Off is definitely my favourite album so far this year now. TNV vs. Yo La Tengo makes me glow.
3. At least I'm reliable.
4. Courtesy of Mr. M-I-E, thanks for the link to this, so much.
5. Undecided on their album so far. Dance Music is a great track. Pringle's vocals on Cutlery Drawer are alluring but the lyrics are shite. And some tracks verge upon electronic noodling.
9.ii. I've been watching their last show ever on YouTube all this week. Go and watch it.

Beulah!

I was considering buying a Beulah album earlier this week. Which out of 'Handsome Western States' and 'When Your Heartstrings Break' would you suggest I get?

Or one of the other ones.

But those were the two that I was tempted by.

3/5 yeah?

I'm eagerly awaiting that Tiger Bear Wolf album.

Obvs 3/5

Did I tell you to listen to 3/5 that time you said Les Savy Fav knew what it meant to be a rock band but didn't quite have it pinned down on record, leading to you listening to it and agreeing it's by far their best album, or were you already familiar with it?

I am already familiar with it

I think it's probably their most consistent. I might prefer The Cat and The Cobra though. Not sure.

Why do they never play Les Savy Fav on the radio?

I'm going to make a note of listening to at least two of their albums this week

I don't really use Last FM

So I'll just say what I've been listening to recently:

Wild Beasts
The Acorn
Kurt Wagner (unreleased solo album-Cor Blimey!)
Songs of Green Pheasant
Miracle Fortress
Ralfe Band
Fleet Foxes
Broken Family Band
Jonquil
Micah P Hinson

I am not going to do this

because not only do I not look at anyone elses, but I don't think anyone else does either.

People do look at them, trust me

I know I certainly do.

2. Just begining to realise how good they are, again
9. Forgot how good this was. Whisper it...I think I prefer it to both bands' other stuff

You're right about Altar

It's a magical magical album.

I have it on vinyl

In the case of a fire it is on my evacuation list underneath only my children.

So...

1 Slow Down Tallahassee 14
2 Superman Revenge Squad 12
2 Broadcast 12

7 Fleet Foxes 7
8 Mumford & Sons 3
9 burningpilot 2
9 They Might Be Giants 2

1 Once you've accepted the conditions under which that whole dark/light thing works, The Beautiful Light is a really good and interesting summer album. Well done, Thee SPC. You are breeding them well.
2 There's a live set linked from his Myspace. I'm coming round to thinking Ben Parker might be my favourite new singer-songwriter.
3 Starting to see them mentioned as an influence a lot, so revisited The Noise Made By People and it's as special as it was on release. Hope there's a new album soon.
4 "Oh for god's sake, burn it down!" Kevin's been promising a new album called It's OK Johanna for about two years now, the workshy fop.
5 It's probably slightly galling to think this, but Actress Hands songs delivered as Lee Hazlewood-esque stripped back beauties > Actress Hands songs delivered as Actress Hands songs. (Wonder if they're still together now Phil Sumner is perma-touring with BSP, actually)
6 Object 47 is their fifth best album, I say.
7 Can't work out whether I really like the album or feel underwhelmed yet, which I know sounds odd but I suspect I'm far from alone.
8 Someone's got to do a South London Indie-Folk Family Tree before long.
9 Album in the autumn, allegedly. What is it, three years sine their first couple of singles?
10 Inspired by finding the Tiny Toon Adventures versions on YouTube.

Not yet

but I'm planning to.

sure thing.

will upload now...

(actually, I think the N d2 'album' might be free on last.fm too. Checkit!)

Sorry, had to dip out for a moment

If you could, cheers.

6. Pretty.
9. Someone recommended them in an Abe Vigoda thread. I didn't much like it.
10. Still the best band in the world.

Was Why? any good?

Sorry, I just wanted to put two exclamation marks in one sentence and CHALLENGE THE CONVENTIONS OF GRAMMAR. I'm such a punk.

He was.

But I was also pretty drunk/in the mosh pit with Laura Wolf.

xggggx

(yes)
I saw Morgan the other day. What a great story that is.

So, basically...

I once claimed to be straightedge for a weekend to ease a journalist. Is the gist of it.

PM me about what on earth Morgan had to say, please?

So Kickball are good then?

Someone else was mentioning them a lot this week... Ibzo, I think.

9. This is that ignorant shit you like
10. Shimmy shimmy yaaah

Nig Heist

is some dumb shit, right?! The lyrics are so laughably bad, its amazing. I'm still annoyed Clockcleaner cancelled their UK tour.

They're just absolutely and completely vile

Hardcore taken to the lowest common denominator.

You know "mugger", the guy mentioned in the Black Flag chapter of Our Band Could Be Your Life who eats dog food, was their lead singer?

I stumbled upon his myspace profile:

http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=35747600

Some the quotes in his about me are gold.

I knew he was the ex-Flag roadie

but I'd not seen his myspace profile before, its hilarious! You've probably read it, but there's some great bits about him & Nig Heist in Stephen Blush's American Hardcore book.

That track where he's asking the girls to strip for him while he sings is really, really grim

I was about to mention that.

Where's mug_mug_mug?

He'd be loving this shit, and he'd probably post a link to Siege.

This is great

"I did not think Rob was gay, we used have sleep overs as kids. Maybe I was not his type, or he was opportunistic."

He clearly has no illusions about his band either: "I started the band Nig-Heist, and produced a really bad record"

It's kinda cool at the end where he went back to college and now teaches and stuff. But sort of hard to believe. Hardcore sold out.

The thought of mugger teaching

is strange and confusing. But also great! Definitely a good guy to go for a pint with.

Isn't Lyle Presslar from Minor Threat a really succesful lawyer nowadays, having formerly worked for some really big record label? It'd be good to have a definitive 'where are they now' list of various early 80's hardcore luminaries.

ICH HABE DEUTSCH MUSIK GEHOREN oder etwas..

That We All Inherit the Moon album was/is ace

I was surprised it wasn't in my top 10 this week. But yeah, cheers lyle!

1 The Smiths 59
2 Slowdive 43
3 The National 41
4 Future Of The Left 29
5 Jay-Z 20
6 These Arms Are Snakes 15
7 Panda Bear 14
8 The Fall 13
8 Sonic Youth 13

Like totally fucking yeah

Look, my number 1) and 2) use the same numbers, but in reverse order. How rad.

1) Minutemen 96
2) Dinosaur Jr. 69
3) Comets on Fire 57
4) Jawbox 39
5) Brand New 31
6) The Nation of Ulysses 27
7) Ghostface 26
7) The Dandy Warhols 26
7) El-P 26
10) Madvillain 24
10) Saul Williams 24

2) Mostly "Where You Been?". Sorely underrated in my opinion. On The Way is my of my favourite Mascis tracks.

3) Preparation for their gig last night. They were rad and CHRIS MOTHERFUCKIN' CORSANO. Ethan Miller has amazing facial hair- think Earl from My Name Is Earl with added mutton chops.

4) I got "For Your Special Sweetheart" off emusic. It's really good, like everything on dischord. For fans of Unwound and Drive Like Jehu.

5) Guilty pleasure. Deja Entendu is a modern classic in the making, I think.

7)c) ALL AROUND THE WORLD TODAY, THE KILO IS THE MEASURE. Very happy with this album, except the lame number with Neyo.

Comets was great fun

I dug out Blue Cathedral today, still the best thing they've done by a mile. Avatar sounds like Elton John, and not in a good way!

So much love for Ghost. That album is genius. PARANOID AS A MOTHERFUCKER RIGHT HERE!!

Field Recordings From The Sun is the metaphorical SHIT in my opinion

I quite like Avatar though the production is a bit limp. The songs sounded better live. Sad not to bump into you at The Lumi actually, but a little birdie tells me you're going to Mudhoney, so mebbe I'll see you there?

Is any of the other Ghost stuff worth buying?

Yep I'm going to Mudhoney

Lizzy's been hassling me about getting a ticket, I really need to do that soon.

I'm a big Ghostface Killah fan, so I'd say all of it, but in particular you might want to get hold of Ironman and Supreme Clientele. Ironman in particular is absolutely brilliant.

7)c)

You are very right. But what's with last.fm insisting on tagging him as Ghostface all the time? I swear he has Killah on the front of all of his albums...?

I know :(

Neyo completely killed that album for me the first time round.
"wow this is amazing"
"wow, this is fucking incredible"
"shit, is that Neyo?"

Which Nation of Ulysses were you listening to Phil?

The Nation of Ulysses must prevail!

Erm, I like 13 point programme best

So it was most likely that.

I like Plays For Pretty Baby as well (I bought it at the same time actually), but it's not as immediate and I need to be in a different mood to listen to it.

Ah ok

Ive only listened to Plays for Pretty Baby, but I like it a lot
