What's your most prized record? (bragging-centric)

During a wild and hazy 5 minutes on eBay I recently managed to get my hands on Slowdive 'Souvlaki'! This is a record I've scowered the earth for for basically the last year. It may not be the most 'valuable' record in money terms but I'm pretty fucking proud of it! And hearing Rachel Goswell's lush tones floating out of my record player just makes my year of living on eBay so God dam worthwhile!

Oh yeah and I recently got my grubby mits of My Bloody Valentine 'Geek' purely for the purpose of sitting on it and waiting for the value to sky rocket.

So what record in your collection are you most proud of? etc etc

I'm not sure

but I got a copy of the new Flying Lotus EP and that has only 2000 copys world wide so I guess thats pretty rare.

I have a white label of some well old acid house tune that is pretty rare too. So I'm told anyway Im not even sure what its called its nto got much writing on it hehe

oooh a reply!

and yeah it doesn't necessarily have to be a record, CD's, tapes it's all good!

I hve loadsa dance stuff on 12"

but nothing compared to my step bro he has some serrious rare stuff like original pressings of house and acid tracks from the 80s and all that good stuff. Its been known for some of them to go for well over £100 on ebay for a single 12" hehe

probably my Dead Kennedys original

fresh fruit for rotting vegetables 12".
it came with the poster and everything. probably my favourite i can think of.

that is

NICE.

I want 'Souvlaki'

but it's always gone for over £100 which is silly!

I 'll soon own '20 Jazz Funk Greats' on vinyl by Throbbing Gristle which is pretty rare I believe. Got it for a sweet price.

If someone wants to buy me the Mazzy Star back catalogue on vinyl then my collection will be complete. Sadly I don't have about £400 to splash out on their three albums. :(

I paied £56 for it!

Which is still fucking loads, but I think it's worth it I would have kicked myself if I hadn't got it. You only live once and all that crap!

awesome

I don't think my mp3s do that record justice, so it's probably worth it.

i've got a very rare Libertines press.

Before they put the first LP out they had three different artworks in mind, so they got five of each printed, for the band, label etc. I've got one of those. I'm told they're worth a couple of hundred quid.

it was a present...

but the person who bought it got it through a record shop who specialise in rarities, i think.

Mercury - Man Who Sold The World

It was worth ~$250 25 years ago. I checked eBay but none are for sale. Various re-issues and stuff (Ryko, Japanese) could be had for $50, but I don't know if an original pressing is worth a fortune or next ta nothing.

Somewhere at my mum's house

there is a blue vinyl 12" of Panic. And some clear/other coloured vinyl Prince 12" too. Should dig them out really.

I've got that

blue 12", they go quite regularly on eBay for around the £15 mark.

I've got most of the Smiths 12" coloured vinyl, my favourite is the German version of William It Was Really Nothing on purple 'splatter' vinyl.

I've got a few Nirvana coloured vinyl as well which are pretty sweet. I'd love the White vinyl version of Bleach on Tupelo but that goes for around £200!

7" of Lightsabre Cocksucking Blues

which Falco gave to me straight out of the box.
:)

Assasins

by "Into a Circle".

Best thing I ever nicked from an ex - he deserved it.

My Sunn O)))/Boris 'Altar' thingy

isn't especially rare but it's beautifully packaged, 3LPs of coloured vinyl, booklet etc.

I've got Dinosaur Jr covering the Cure 'Just Like HEaven' on etched 12". That's pretty cool.

I really want Altar on vinyl..

I bet it sounds amazing as well!

I've got

a limited edition copy of Kid A in a cardboard book, signed by the band.

Won it on Radio 1 by beating Steve Lamacq in a quiz.

Oo, let me think

Could it be Echo And The Bunnymen's 'The Pictures On My Wall' 7" on Zoo, or maybe Primal Scream's 'All Fall Down' 7" on Creation, or every Sarah Record 7", or

*has a mild indieboy fit*

Can you touch your original copy of "Sensitive" by the Field Mice for me please?

everyone seems to want my 2 Murder of 7"s

so they're obviously in demand.

but my favourite record is probably either one of my Built To Spill, Lovesick or Braid LPs. my Christie Front Drive/Boys Life 10" is pretty great too, i love the packaging as well as the jams.

ive got...

the presidents of the USA peaches single on peach coloured 7" vinyl. that pretty smart. oh, and i have the original ghostbusters theme tune on 12''.

Oooh good thread

I'd say either my copy of The Pod by Ween, first pressing on Shimmy Disc or Liquid Swords by GZA, again, first pressing.

I'm also rather fond of my copies of Suicide Invoice by Hot Snakes, Margin Walker by Fugazi, On The Wires Of Our Nerves by Add N To (X) and the split Mudhoney/Sonic Youth 12" with them covering eachother (Halloween/Touch Me I'm Sick). Nothing ever so valuable, but I like them a lot.

Cap'n Jazz LP

original "Electric Warrior"

with insert, poster, sticker, mint cond for a fiver on eBay.

I quite literally came in my pants when i won it.

I don't even like them that much

But I've got a 7" QOTSA with the fun machine on 1 side & an interview on the other, they gave it out at a gig in london, each copy has been signed too. There aren't any on ebay atm, maybe I should flock it.

I only own a few records really

The only one which is worth anything is The Shins - When I goosestep/the gloating sun 7". It's still pretty hard to get hold of I believe.

well

I've still got all the 12 Wedding Present singles they released in 1992

'Made in the USA' - Sonic Youth

Instrumental soundtrack. Clear 12" vinyl.

Kaboom.

not many really

starchildren (smashing pumpkins in disguise!) - delusions of candor white 7" and their I Am One 10" and Tristessa 12"
idlewild - first seven 7"s including queen of the troubled teens
green day - basketcase green 7", first issue (not a hit the first time around)

er, what?

"This is a record I've scowered the earth
for for basically the last year."

Souvlaki can be bought from hmv for £7.99.

It is with reference to the Souvlaki Lp, presumably

Which is significantly rarer.

Unless you are being sarcastic here, I can't tell.

I have a CD-R with every Kenickie demo

they recorded before At The Club was released, which was given to me by Johnny X. That, almost definitely.

Only three non-Kenickie people own a copy.

It's got to stay special!

i'll give you my copies

of the first Terrorvision EP and King Adora single in return!

None of my records have won prizes

apart from Anthony & the Johnsons - I am a bird now, which won the Mercury Music Prize

The Grey Album

(dangermouse jay / beatles thing)

on double grey 12"

YeaH!

Not the best but...

That limited white label, hand stamped Futureheads remix 7" they gave out on their xmas tour a few years ago...

its not that rare or old

but my in rainbows discbox is fucking beautiful

owls - s/t

most probably. it's one of my favourite albums, so i get a kick out of playing the big version.

picked up a copy of the harvey milk 'courtesy...' re-issue recently, with the hand done sleeves, that's a nice one.

my sigur ros boxset

signed by the band.
there are 50 in the world.
it makes me want to wee a little everytime i see it.

wow

thats pretty cool, i've got 'in a frozen sea' with all the lps in it but i think there are a couple thousand of them about, nowhere near as rare as yours

:O I want this!

What's in it? And did you get your hands on it. I'm wetting myself just thinking about it!

I only got a record player recently

and thus don;t have many records.

So either my Architects/Dead Swans blue splatter split ep, or Fear Before The March Of Flames - Art Damage picture disc.

probably

the copy of ikara colt's 'modern apprentice' i have.
it was given to me by john peel and has both his hand-written star ratings on the back (with a note that one of the songs is 'fall-lite'!) and is signed by the band.
probably not worth a lot in monetary value, but it's something i'd run back in the house to save during a fire.

Coldplay - the safety EP

I should have sold this already...

5ive - Versus

Handpressed sleeve and numbered 002 / 500.

I've also got Hefner - Alan Bean signed by Alan Bean himself which I think is pretty special. He was well surprised when I passed it over and asked him to sign it, and he said "ooh I've got one of these at home". I said he should check out Fidelity Wars.

omgz

my super rare edmund fitzgerald pre-foals.

Yes

These are both incredible, especially the blue 12" split.

Also I know it's not old or rare but the Mogwai Young Team reissue, despite being the most I've ever spent on a record, is a beautiful thing and was worth every penny.

I was kinda kidding

but it is fucking excellent.

I think my rarest one would be the Owen split I have. That is nice...

Mogwai ftw.

I have

a couple copies of Queen of the Troubled Teens.

a couple?

the rarest record i won could well be thekidswhopoptodayrocktomorrow by biffy clyro.

however the ones i most prize are my braid lps, my owls lp and my girlfriends' party hard 7", which i have borrowed.

Either

My signed Faith No More picture disk or my Neutral Milk Hotel Holland 1945 7"

Most prized, or most valuable?

I’ve not really got anything too valuable in my racks, but there are several CDs/LPs that had limited releases (500/1000 copies), and a few from friend’s bands that have handmade covers (The Bleeding Heart Narrative one is supa-sweet), that mean a lot to me.

I guess that the most desirable ones, from a collector’s point of view, are my vinyl copy of Man Don’t Give a Fuck, and the Apes/Mars Volta/Les Savy Fav European tour sampler that they put out about six years ago.

Live at Electric Circus 10"

although I don't really know if it's really rare

and I got offered a hundred quid for some old Napalm Death/SOB split

I have

A really heavy copy of Bowie's "Heroes". Seriously, it's the heaviest, thickest vinyl I've ever seen. On decent equipment it sounds astounding.

I forgot...

First pressing of Lysol by the Melvins, with the black tape and magic marker and all.

wooow

that's the shit!!! did you get it new then, or second hand? reckon that's worth a lot of money...

Found it in a second hand record shop

£4!

I knew it was worth more than that. Not sure how much though.

are u f****n joking???

4 miserable quids???
haha, this is ridiculous. how come the people in the shop were selling this at that price...useless c**ts!! not much idea about value but would prob pay up to 50 quids myself for it. and proper fans would go over a 100 easy i reckon. all their early stuff is really really hard to find on vinyl...

Sweet

Thanks for the rough valuation. I wouldn't sell it though, it's far too nice.

To be fair, it was Anarchy Records in Nottingham and they are really really good people. They'll quite often under price stuff (knowingly) just to get word of mouth going and to get people coming back to the shop.

Apparently some guy had sold them his Melvins collection... most of it had already gone by the time I got there and was left with the Joe Preston solo EP, Prick and, unbelievably, the copy of Lysol. So I think it's the idiots who got excited at a copy of Houdini and Stoner Witch and completely by-passed the rarest record in there who are the useless cunts!

yep too right!

just checked ebay...no vinyl for sale... amazon's got ozma lp going for 42 quids. prick must be super rare too...i wouldn't sell lysol either, such an amazing record...

1. Dancemix2000 - Knifehandchope

2. Happy-go-lucky Me (original pressing) - GEORGE FORMBY
3. The Gazumper - BEARSUIT (blood-red vinyl, wrapped in mummY-bandages, as yet unopened)

Radiohead Drill EP

However I massively fucked up as on seeing them at The Old Trout in Windsor many years ago i had enough money for a pint or the record (Drill) which they'd sign. I got a pint and my now wife bought me the EP off ebay for our first christmas together a few years back because I'd trot out this story at all possible opportunities.

In addition to all the nice boxsets mentioned here I very much like my Portishead Third box.

i sold

the first darkness EP to some mug on eBay for £89

my fave records are;

- the white stripes christmas 7"
- promo copy of hail to the thief remixes with parlophone DJ press release in it
- led zep. in through the out door. shit record but still in its original brown paper bag. £1 from a car boot
- slayer. show no mercy pic disc signed by the whole band
- i'm also coming to realise how lucky I am to have original copy of one last laugh in a place of dying too.
- jeff buckley bootleg - tears from the stars

The Killers

Hot fuss LP red aliminium tin foil - 100 worldwide. hand numbered.
had 2 - now 1 due to the fact i sold the other on ebay for £800 last summer

records:

my Rolo Tomassi digital history/beatrotter 7" is really nice, spray painted "RT" logo on it. fairly recent but still cool.

cds:
i've got almost all of the Biffy Clyro singles from blackend sky/vetigo/infinity land. saw the blackened sky ones going for £30 or something on ebay a while ago, i'm not selling them though.
today i got the last I Was a Cub Scout single in the mail. 3" cd, spray painted sleeve and disc and it's lovely. only 150 made!

i am kicking myself for not buying 'The Rescue' by Explosions in the Sky when i saw them. they were all gone by the time i decided to buy one :(

mine

is a copy of Pulp's "This Is Hardcore" on double vinyl - with some bsides including Tomorrow Never Lies tagged on the end. My brother won it on MTV Select back in the day, and since I have a turntable and he doesn't i've indefiantely borrowed it.

I think the last one went on ebay for around £50 but still. Its so beautiful
