Have XX Teens gone wrong?

I really had a lot of enthusiasm for this band a year or so ago, there were some really good demos of their tracks around, they were getting a fair bit of press and it looked like they were going to make it. However since then I think they have lost some members and the more recent tracks I’ve heard (The Way We Were and that Terror Victim one) are IMO poor and lacking some how.

Do you think they have blown it?

I have been saying to people recently

The first time I saw them would have been summer 2005? I don't mean to show off because really it wasn't very good. I remember vaguely enjoying it but they didn't really get it together until later. They'd been going a little while before anyone noticed them. I would like to think that when they've had the chance to really make the new line up work, good things will come again.

The trouble is, it just came at such a bad time.

It would be great if they returned to form

but it just feels as if their chance may have come and gone.

To be honest I found them annoying when I first saw them live way back at the Barfly, but there really won me over with the recorded stuff like Chasing your Tail and My New Hat.

...

in a way it is also kind of naive to expect them to work like a traditional band, ie. staying together in the same line up for ages and releasing a string of albums. Or, that's the impression I got from talking to them.

Maybe they'll go on to form other bands, and that's how it will get good again. I think that would be the best result.

I think the first time i saw them i said they were tossers! though I quickly changed my mind.

Has anyone else got the Darlin' / My Favourite Hat gatefold vinyl? One of my favourites.

I have to admit

I have also lost enthusiasm for them recently. They're just not as interesting now as they were. I have seen them a fair few times, the first gig was probably an artrocker night with Hot Club de Paris in 2006, and they are deffo losing my interest.

I heard

that Mute made them sack their rhythm section.....

Really?

There's a truth in that

Not that they were going to sell millions, but their records could be relied upon to be very interesting and stand out, whereas since they started using real names and had the lineup changes (have they changed some members twice?) the last and new singles have completely washed over me. I see the album's leaked so I might still give them a chance, and they're on the front of Artrocker again, but they've lost their momentum.

Ive never had the enthusiasm a lot of people had for them,

but they were decent. The latest stuff has all the power of a wet noodle.

agreed

the album is mostly generic drivel. always were style over substance, not that the style was particularly good or consisted of much other than inflated ego.

saw them at glastonbury

...and thought they were back on top form. They had some VERY dodgy dancers with them but the band were superb.

They only lost a keyboard player I think.

Darling is fantastic live.

they're selling the album at crash records

but i'm reluctant to buy until i read reviews

ditto as most of the above really

I absolutely loved them 2/3 years ago. Tracks like Rounds and My Darlin' were incredible, but their new stuff is crap. Not at all interested in the album.

Why would anyone want to get rid of the rhythm section? the bassist was awesome!

Unlike everyone else in the world

it seems, I didn't hear them until Terror Victim came out. I've sinces seen them live once on the Long Blondes tour and thought they were great. Picked up the album at the weekend and I think it's excellent.

Sometimes it's good not to be jaded by preconceptions of what a band should be.

I caught them last year at Glastonbury by complete chance

Went into the dance tent because it was pissing with rain, and was blown away. They were incredible.

I went to see them on the same stage this year and they were awful. They couldn't be bothered. There was no spark. It was like all their energy had been drained out of them. They were 20 minutes late out and then proceeded to just go through the motions. I actually enjoyed the DJs on before them more. I left and went to watch Holy Fuck instead
