I've been listening to 'God Save The Clientele' a lot this week after a long absence. Maybe it's the time of year - that languid summer feeling they always seem to evoke.
Initially, I wrote it off as being a weaker album in comparison to the stunning 'Strange Geometry' but 'No Dreams Last Night' or 'The Queen of Seville' are maybe the prettiest ballads they've ever put to tape. The whole thing just sounds so lush and rich for an indie release.
Any other fans? Criminally, I seldom hear them mentioned.
totally in love with them
but I have to agree on GSTC being their least inspired effort
Losing Haringey gives me goosebumps everytime I hear it, feels like watching some old pics.......I'm so in love with this song
oh god yeah
Losing Haringey is amazing
probably my favourite band
i also very rarely hear them mentioned anywhere, i think they're a lot bigger in the USA than over here despite being from london.
re God Save, it's a very different album to their earlier work, which always seems to evoke either rain or twilight in my head (i find it impossible to talk about them without reverting to weather metaphors). it has some great songs..'Winter on Victoria Street' is fantastically catchy. much as i like it though i still always find myself going back to The Violet Hour and Suburban Light.
never managed to see them live but i've not heard particularly good reports for their most recent shows..
I've yet to hear
the new(er) EP but their blog hints at a change of direction.
interesting stuff
the EPs tend to be well worth a listen if you can get hold of them...'A Fading Summer' and 'Ariadne' are my favourites
I caught them live
a couple of times - they were quite good, but looked a bit nervous, god knows why (maybe cos the place was half empty)
They are very good.
An for me 'God Save The Clientele' is their best album.
