I'm picking up they keys to my new flat there after work today and I don't know too much about the area. Obviously I'll go exploring, but any pub/shop/restaurant recommendations are welcome.

I've

seen both Crackout and Ben Folds in Shepherds Bush.

Hope that helps

were they playing chess with

the old men who hang on the green?

Yes!

Ben Folds pushed one of them over and stole his carrier bag. I used to like him, too...

Did it stop there?

Coaches might be helpful

no

the oxford tube stops nearby though.

as daniel said.

the oxford tube stops up at the top of the green, at the big roundabout onto holland park road (?) at the entrance of the Hilton

hello!

i lived there for three years, and i do miss it.

where exactly are you living?

good pubs -

the goldhawk on goldhawk road:
good food (semi-expensive but worth it)
usually local normal/yuppy types, artsy but not too pretentious normos.

the defectors weld on the corner of the green and wood lane:
also good food, sells Brothers.
usually full of Media types from BBC / Endemol / countless media companies around the area
has a nice Snug upstairs (door round the back)

Wetherspoons in the W12:
kinda gross but i love it. does the best roast dinner anywhere i've been. has books you can steal.

Vesbar:
good for cocktails and pizza. sells Hoegaarden and poncey beers.
has loud music. so, best for cocktails really.

Renezios:
my favourite italian restaurant in london. good cheap food, free amaretto at the end. plays random cds ranging from sicilian trad music to abba to grease megamixes.

The market is a must for random crap and poking around.

Traid is a good 2nd hand store, by Sainsburys.

There's a great Greek restaurant down Uxbridge road, opposite Loftus road. the name escapes me, but they do massive cheap mezze platter things. just great.

Al Abbas - awesome grocery store down uxbridge road, by Dominos, just past the police station. ridiculously cheap Halal chicken, also lots of sugary dessert things.

there's a kebab shop just down from Blockbuster on the Uxbridge road, it used to be called Shebab, now it's something really long like al sheikh skfskjgsomething. anyway, their chicken shish kebabs are FUCKING AMAZING.

there's a french cafe kinda place down by nandos - NOT THE ONE WITH THE CAKES IN THE WINDOW - which does lovely proper icecream, croissants etc.

the restaurant next to it... Gioa Mya (something like that) looks lovely, though i never went in.

i'll think of more.

BUSH HALL

you tard

oh yeah and Bush Hall

lovely lovely LOVELY venue, really small, red carpets, chandeliers, beautiful.

and the Empire obvs.

oh and Walkabout obviously.

agreed

i really love that walkabout!!!!!!

hmmmm

hello!

BRAAAGHLE

hello!

i feel very tired today. I blame the delayed effects of Greece's premium beer.

i'm very tired today as well

i blame it on drinking nasty cocktails in the roxy until about half one last night.

if you're gonna do it, do it somewhere classy

that's what my ma always said to me.

i know

but, y'know, i can't say no to pretty girls.

i'll do it for you if you like*

*satisfacory results not guaranteed

i'm still proud of the fact

i've never been inside a Walkabout.

bah

coming in here, making us feel all inferior

i forgot

how much you love Walkabouts...

www.jakeloveswalkabout.com

i know you're a fully paid up member

I knew I could rely on you!

I'm living above the William Hill on Uxbridge Road (the entrance is on Godolphin Road)

That Wetherspoons is fucking horrible, but I already love it.

OMG

haha

i used to live above Nandos.

The Goldhawk is great.

They sell Paulaner. Any pub selling Paulaner gets major ratings.

Plus their quiz is easy with a high jackpot.

omg

Bagel Bite:
just by the bus stops opposite the old SB central line station, on the outside of the W12 centre. best. fucking. bagels. anywhere.

^

100% accurate

PS

if you walk down to Brook Green there's a lovely pub called The Queens Head. the beer garden is huge. it's like a country pub but in the city.

Also on thursdays the farmers market in Hammersmith is brilliant.

^

Queens Head is really nice.

also

in the W12, go towards the back to Morrissons, and go right towards the Rileys pool hall (which is ok, a bit scary but ok)

there is the bestest ever DIY shop there, the man is so old and really nice and sweet. there's also a cobblers.

and...

THE BUSH DOCTOR

where did you

move to in the end?

she lives in Trendy Hoxton

because she's so hip and woah and like yeah

nooo

nowhere is worse than bethnal green...

at least hoxton is v. central..

it's only really central to old street

which is pretty shit.

nah,

you can walk into central london from there, which is pretty handy ...

vauxhall?

i can walk to the west end in about an hour, which isn't too bad ... but obviosuly you just have to cross a bridge.

nah, i'm back in tufnell park now

s'bout the same for me. maybe a little bit less. if i push it i can do 45 minutes, which makes for a pleasant sunday morning stroll :)

i use the tube about six a month

probably. the best thing about where i live is that i don't need to use the blasted thing very often!

The only things you can get in Hoxton are

a) ridiculously expensive drinks
b) blinded by neon clothes
c) beaten up by travelling Dalston vagabonds

exactly

it's a totally gritty urban experience. it's REAL, MAN!

I don't understand

When I left London 4 years ago, everyone knew Hoxton and Shoreditch were crap. Why is everyone pretending otherwise now?

^ totally

South > East > West > North

we could do this all day

no, it's a strong-hearted belief

i really can't stand North London

^

You live in Bethnal Green, yes?

Absolute shithole, in my opinion.

I do

It's alright, I like it because it has the Salmon and Ball - the best pub in the world, and it takes me 15 minutes to get to work on the tube - whereas Fulham took me regularly upwards of an hour.

But I was born and bred in West London so it always has a place in my heart

Wow

I live near to Shepherds Bush ... Do say hello

Maybe I will, JJ

Maybe I will

I aslo live near Sehpherds Bush

The Anglesea Arms is a very nice pub.

Also on the goldhawk road there's a shop where you can get chinese meals for £1.50 and you take them home and microwave them and become a happier person.

mum and dad

saw willie nelson at the empire. hope THIS helps.

Forgot to ask

Will I have an DiS neighbours?

ME!

Jasmine
JacobJones
Japtmie Summers!

where's something serious?

Also, a new bus is gonna run from Kilburn LUMINAIRTASTIC.

Otherwise N94 from picadilly, N207 from Tottenhman courtroad. N220 from wandsworth via putney and fulham. Also its walking distance from hammermsith bus station which is pretty much connected to THE WORLD.

One day I'll say I'm going to that on Facebook

and then actually turn up

Japtmie Summers, eh?

All Pomorrow's Tarties

I live in Shepherds Bush

Although I'm not sure why exactly - I've been 'looking to move' for 18 months and counting

I was in a middle-eastern café...

...in Shepherd's Bush last year and two members from O Death though me and my mate were Midlake.

We're not.
Everyone was sober.
The baba ganoush was excellent.

west is best

or say they say. but what the hell, why are you moving from bethnal? i live here and its amazing, stop slagging it off people :(
